What a great idea! How about a bundle of the original Doom, Doom 2, Quake 1 and Quake 2, all redone with the Doom 3 engine? I'd pay $50 for that without even thinking twice. Heck, the first three of those, i never even played with mouselook! The new engine would be reason enough to go back and do it again, this time with the right controls.

Excellent point about Half Life lasting for 5 years.

Lets see, in just over a month, Half Life 2 is coming out. It's supposed to be much easier for modders to use than the first one was. Assuming the mod community takes as much interest in this one as the last one, that's another 5 years at about $0.75 a month. This investment nets me not only the original game with single player and story, but also the original multiplay, which I have a feeling will be much better than PS, call it a hunch. Also, I'll get included in the purchase price endless free mods and total conversions for at least the next five years.

Now let's see, PS for $50, plus $13 more a month, and no new content until an expansion comes out, which I will then also be charged even more for, since my $13 a month could hardly be expected to go towards developing new content.

Or, a one time investment of $50 for HL2, which should get me at least 5 years of free, interesting, graphicaly superior, and diverse gameplay?

Hmmmm......tough one....

Here's a question. If you pay for a game every month, shouldn't additional content be free as part of that package?

Oh wait! It's Sony! I get it. How gullable of me.

Well, I did enjoy HoMM, at least up to III. IV was a bit off, but we'll see about HoMM V.

Amen to that! I really loved this series till IV. I thought the fortress sieges were just lame compared to the earlier ones, and the city screens weren't nearly as "cool" and personalized as in past efforts. Also, heros were too weak to begin with and too strong after they got leveled up. Hope Ubi really gives this franchise the love it deserves.

BTW, does anyone know if the guy who's annoying voice said "Three Dee Oh" at the beginning of each of their games is the same one that does the equally annoying voiceover for the "E A Sports, it's in the Game!" games? LOL, just wondering....

lol, r c!

I just figure it'll be another Raven game. Safe, pretty, not much new, but not many bugs, either. I like all of Ravens games, but they havn't in my mind made a classic since they made Heretic 2.

After the release of the Matrix game, games like T3 really scare the hell out of me. I'll wait for the reviews this time, $50 is $50.

That Hollenshead/Willits interview is good reading. Some good info there. The Johnson/Quake 4 interview, on the other hand, might as well have been a blank page for all the information I gleaned from reading it.

Haha, I hear you Creston!

I'm trying to squeeze in Lionheart and Elite Force 2 before the big release party coming up soon with all the games you mentioned plus ToEE all coming out hopefully by the end of Sept.

Yes Lionheart is all RPG, no RTS. Think Diablo gameplay wrapped in a more epic BG2-like storyline with better graphics than both of them. The combat is actually a little better than Diablo, but not like BG. Also, the game uses the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system from Fallout for level advancement! Like I said, much better than I thought it would be.

That nanotech story on braincells is fascinating!

Now for some practical research that can be applied to my own life...introduce the rats to mass quantities of red wine and see if the brain cells can still hold up.

If so, this dawns a new day for modern medical science! Good luck, gents!

Can't wait for Temple, but in the meantime, I found myself compromised due to the lack of good rpg's out now for the PC into getting Lionheart. I have to say, it's MUCH better than the demo would indicate. I'm really getting into it, although the combat system is certianly not what you would call complex.

The combat for Lionheart is, unfortunately, like Diablo more than like BG2. You can pause to access inventory for potions or armor changes, weap. changes, etc., but you can't actually do any strategic combat plotting while paused. Still, lots of dialoge, much of it spoken, and a good buildup to the main story so far. Also, the artwork is beautiful, a notch above what I was expecting. The story and the way it's told is reminiscent of BG2, i.e. a 'good' thing.

If you're really jonesing for a crpg, this one is actually not bad at all.

By all means, please keep up your banal speculations. I for one get a kick out of some idiot saying the game impresses him less and less the more he hears how good the tech. is.

Just cause the tech is good, doesn't mean the game has to suck. Every single game id has ever released has been ahead of it's time at the time of release, and at the time was the best thing out there. So quake 2 didn't have a good story or many interactive features, so what? What shooter back then really did? It had immersion out the ass, though.

Maybe quake 3 didn't have much story, but then again, it wasn't supposed to. It did exactly what it was supposed to do, exactly what it was advertised as, and exactly what id said it'd do prior to it's release.

To act like an ass and say id has said nothing about story, well, neither really has valve. Other than to say, you're Gordan Freeman, AGAIN. The world is in big trouble, AGAIN. You will have to fight aliens and uber soldiers, AGAIN.

Just the fact that id is making a story for this game really impresses me. To be honest, they don't really even need to. This game would sell fine as JUST a tech. demo. But every product from id has always been groundbreaking, at least on the tech side, and to have the added bonus of them truly trying to make a story to go along with the atmosphere they have always bottled, well, that's just icing on the cake.

id's my favorite whore, and as soon as she's in town,I'm going to be lining up with my money. So are most all of you who are complaining. Remember how good she is when she hasn't been around awhile?

Someone better tell 3drealms it's been cleared up so they can go ahead with another engine switch.

Just bought this game a few days ago. It's actually much better and more fun than I thought it would be. The Q3 engine truly has never looked as good in any game before. The level design is some of the best I've seen. It's a real shame that these guys had to be let go by Ritual, because the production quality and attention to detail are better than 95% of the crap that's out there, and it's by far the best game Ritual has ever done.

It's funny as hell how every review on this game just parrots the one before it. "The Q3 engine looks dated. The q3 engine is showing it's age." etc. Going soley on the reviews, I would have probably skipped this game, not being a big Star Trek fan myself. But Ritual has some of the best level designers in the business, and they really don't dissapoint here. I've only had time to play about 4 hours of the single player game so far, and I've got to say I'm very glad I made the purchace based on my experience so far. Highly reccomended!
