This game is going to surprise and blow away everybody. That's my guess. Irrational made System Shock 2, which I'm replaying right now. As I go through the levels of SS2, I'm constantly reminded of the great ways these guys can build tension and immersion. And that's in a game 5 years old. So many things other developers try to do, these guys just take for granted.

Lots of people are putting down the idea of a single player game, but I can't imagine why. Irrational does a great job of sucking you right into the middle of the story in their games. I'll bet the multiplayer will be as good or better than Tribes, and it really sounds from the dev. diary that they are tickled themselves by the single player story they've come up with. I bet this game will pleasantly surprise a whole lotta folks.

I am assuming you are not old enough to have actually worked in the game industry (I used to work at GT Interactive)

I think your lying. I think you're 15. I think mopping the floors at GT doesn't really qualify you to say you "work in the bizz". I think maybe you might have helped them beta test a game once.

You guys are just wasting your time talking about the X-Box's CPU and GPU. Seriously, I'd guarantee they're more powerful than most computers people use to play games now a days.

Since you're totally wrong, what else would you like to guarantee?

The cpu's a 750. The gpu is a GForce 3.

Here's what you do. Rope the players together so they cant get more than 20 feet apart from each other. If one runs out of health completely, any hits he takes starts sucking off his buddy's health, until both are dead or find some Health. Also, equip each character with a quake-2-mod-like grappling hook, in case someone destroys something they shouldn't have before the other guy can get across. LOL, all of it would probably be pretty easy to code, except for the rope to hold them together.

WW3, of course it's all a matter of personal preference, but I found both Heretic 2 and Jedi Knight 2 Outcast to be far more than just average games. I liked both of them better than anything Ritual has done. But really, I like both companies. I thought Sin had some of the best deathmatch maps ever made, and I love their level designers. But the third person control in FAKK 2 really turned me off after having played the smooth as butter controls of Heretic 2. And Sin did not ship in a state I would call playable. Ritual is just as much a slave to the timetable as Raven. I think in the past their problem has been trying to cram too much in, then rushing to get it finished, leaving bugs galore. If you get published by Activision, and your name's not id, you're a slave to the timetable.

Yea, Legend really disapointed me with Unreal 2. Wheel of Time was a blast, and the maps looked great. I thought the multi was great, with seekers and reflect, some of that could get intense! I was really hoping for more out of Legend after such a promising start.

OOps, 2 mistakes. I forgot about Scourge of Armageddon, by Ritual, which was great, although it was just an expansion pack using predefined technology.

And I am in no position to judge the 3rd person camera on Splinter Cell, having not played it.

Still, saying Raven sucks is just plain fucking stupid.

Are you saying that Unreal 2 didn't have good graphics and art? And that this is why it sucked?

Please don't read things in to what I say that aren't there. Of course it had good graphics. That's part of the 'fantastic technology', i.e., the Unreal Engine Version 2. But, as far as art, no, I don't think it had exceptional art. Especially if you understand my use of the word art. I'm talking about the 'art' of making good gameplay. I'm talking about the game as a whole being a work of art. Nor did they make good use of the physics at their disposal. Nor was the level design very inspiring, aside from the fact that the engine allowed for some impressive spaces. The texture art for buildings, landscape, etc, was pretty good, but the character modeling wasn't at all. The game had "rush" written all over it. Also, read what I posted in the context it was meant.

Raven sucks and Ritual rules.

Ummm....

Raven: Hexen, Heretic, Hexen 2, Heretic 2, Soldier of Fortune, Star Trek Elite Force, Soldier of Fortune 2, Jedi Knight Outcast.

Ritual: Sin, Heavy Metal FAKK 2.

Most people would say it's the other way around.

Not to grief with you, I really think Ritual has more level design talent than Raven does. But I would be more inclined to say, "Ritual MAY rule if they ever get all their shit together before they release a game."

Raven has consistantly produced fun games that are playable right out of the box in a relitively bug free state. It surprizes me that anyone could think they "suck". Heretic 2 was the most innovative game of it's time, and still the best 3rd person shooter in existance. The camera control and animation of the lead character are still head and shoulders above anything that's come out in the 5+ years since.

Creston, you're right about Ritual so far. They've always been a very talented developer who has never lived up to their potential. I really hope that this is finally the time they've gotten it all together. For the first time, they're using an engine they already have experience with, so hopefully some of that talent can come through in the gameplay department.

And while I can find no exuse for the state Sin was released in, the multiplay was actually very fun in that game. The level design was fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to what the levelord and co. have come up with for this one. I appreciate good level design in a game more than just about anything else, and there is no question that Ritual has loads of talent in this department. I've always thought it's been their programers who are a little suspect. Like I said, I hope they have finally got it ironed out!

For me the real question mark (?) is Quake 4.
All we know:
It's done by Raven.
It's DOOM3-engined.
It will have MP.

Will it have SP?

Done by Raven usually is a good thing!

To answer your first question, it will be VERY single-player focused, but will also ship with multi. I'm not sure if it's going to continue with quake 2's story, (lol, what story?) or be an original one. I can't help but think it's going to be great, though.

So your definition of state of the art is based on games you haven't even played? Good thinking. My state of the art is based on a game called Godhead. It will come out in 2134 and will blow your pathetic Doom 3 out of the water.

Logical thinking, no?

Yep, that's my definition of state of the art. It's brand new, it exists, and I've seen what it's capable of. Thats my definition allright. I've also seen Halo in action, and frankly, I was less than impressed. I'm glad you think my thinking is good, and I'd love to see this Godhead game of yours! Got any screens? A trailer? A tech demo? No? I didn't think so. I'd probably flame you a bit harder, but I like Terry Goodkind.

So....publisher's are just leaping at the chance to throw money into a sinkhole'd void that will have the daikatana effect of "would have been great 4 years ago"?

A bit naive I feel....

Uhh, DNF is fully funded by 3Drealms, so how do you figure it's a "sinkhole" for developers? A bit naive on your part I feel....

Online multiplay really looks good in this one. It has several different types of gameplay out of the box, with, of course tEH LEVALORD!!!!11

Also, the single player game is supposed to be at least twice as long as the original. Compared to most of what's come out lately, this one's a no-brainer instant buy for me.

Hehe, you want more cutesy stuff, check out Action Trip's Will Rock Review. The whole thing is based on what the writer must think is the most original and funny joke ever told. He keeps this drivel up for the entire review, instead of just writing about if the game is good or not and why. And, sadly, it's neither funny or original.

I like the new Metallica.

I like the old Metallica.

I like System of a Down.

I like the first Disturbed album better than the second one.

I'd fuck Brittney Spears, but I don't like her music.

I wouldn't fuck Lincoln Park, and I still don't like their music.

The End.
