Yea, why no info on Quake 4?

I know Raven's doing it, and they're pretty fast about getting a game out, so maybe they have to wait till the Doom codes finalized? I think that would be NOW, since the games coming out in a few months.

You're right Stack, open areas are cool in MP. I was thinking of other reasons for corridors, and in single play, at least they can guide you down a set path, so they can load it up with surprizes and ambushes, etc, because they know you're going to be right there at some point, instead of a big grassy field you can cross differently than the designer planned..

Also, good corridors take longer to make than maps of the outdoors. You need a roof instead of just a skybox. And just because you have corridors, doesn't mean they have to be cramped, some of my favorite alltime levels have big, open INDOOR chaimbers that catch you by surprize as you turn the corner in your claustrophobic corridor..

They make me much more paranoid than open, outdoor shooters. I think just because companys COULD finally do outdoor scenes with the new graphics engines, they all went overboard. An enemy just isn't as scary when you can see it coming from a mile away. I'll take the corridors..

Anyone have a crack for Punk Buster yet? I just can't have fun in a game unless I'm bullet proof and every shot I take hits, even through walls. Also, the movement speed is so slow in most games, I don't really feel that upping my speed to supersonic really gives me much of an advantage, I wish everyone would stop whining. When are you all going to realize it's my mad skills that keep me at the top, and the rest is just a way I keep from getting bored. After all, why should I care what kind of time the other 15 people are having as long as my ego's appeased?

As someone already said, it's great in short bursts. I couldn't sit down and get lost in this game for 6 hours at a time like i can in far cry, but for a half hour adreniline burst, it's great fun.

In regards to the vehicles in Far Cry, I agree that they are mostly useless, but in going back to the level at the beginning right before you get to the ship where you need to retrieve the life boat, I decided to not stop and try to kill all the jeeps in the sand and the patrol boat, and instead just floored the jeep, trying to dodge the gunfire from the patrol boat, and raced across the sand and up into the jungle beyond. Some mercs were firing at me when I got there, but I just kept it floored, dodging trees and parrots. All of the sudden, as I bounced up a hill, I flew off the cliff in front of the lagoon by the carrier. I was launched over THAT patrol boat, and left the jeep right before it hit the water, which left me about ten feet from the hole in the side of das boat. A few breaststrokes later, I was in.

In retrospect, much cooler than my first time through just sneaking through the woods. Thats the kind of stuff that keeps me coming back to far cry.

Oh yea, I like Painkiller.

Im talking more about how nice it would be to be able to quick save any time for practical reasons. You know, like if you run out of smokes or beer and need to make a run. Or if your chick comes in wearing something very nice with a minimalist material styling. Or if you're just getting in a few minutes before work. Or if you have to finally go to sleep so you can wake up and continue your life as slave to the man so you can afford to buy new games every month. That kind of thing.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought it was Paul Steed who got fired over deciding to go with Doom 3 instead of Quest.

Was the first one cool? The only adventure games I like are ones with tons of atmosphere. Great graphics and a mood that makes you forget you are playing a game. Was the first one like that? The last adventure game I played that I really liked was Bladerunner.

Does anyone know if any of the patches ever improved the performance of the game in general? I bought this one to see what all the buzz was about, and it runs so slowly that I can't even line up my sights on anything.

P4 2.53, 9700 pro w/4.1 cats, audigy.

Fairly decent rig, if not state of the art, but even in 800 x 600 this pos ran like a one legged dog. If they fixed the framerates, I'd dust it off.
