According to this site http://events.station.sony.com/fanfaire/faq.vm, Fan faire has been going on since 2003.

Or at least, that's my assumption based on the photo gallery link. It appears they move it each year, though 2005's was also in Vegas.

Nin, you're being VERY generous. I'd say something more like "Why do people put up such completely SHITTASTIC 'games'? I mean, seriously, what a load of fucking garbage. They should be shot.", if I was inclined to hold back.

Science, at *BEST* says "We don't know."

But true literal interpretation is we *CANNOT* know how the universe was created. The information is (as far as we can tell) destroyed during the Big Bang. Everything since then, however, we know pretty damn well, and there is no "being that created you" beyond your mother and father.

Sounds like DRM to me.

While I absolutely loath cheating, I don't think encumbering the community at large with Intel's Certified Cheat Detector (100% Accurate... Honest!) is the right way to go about it. And I don't think it'll actually stop people from cheating anyway. Aimbots and wallhacks are usually the most obvious of cheats and are fairly well handled on servers with admins anyway. I'd rather see them work on lifting the DRM curse

Also, what about people who are handicapped and have to use software automation to accomplish some things? OMG THEY'RE CHEATING!

It has (according to an interview) about 210,000 active players. Saying "and there's only one server" could be misleading given that most MMOs have multiple servers to handle their player base, so someone not familiar with Eve might take that to mean that they have a very tiny population.

Never played LOTRO

What sort of stuff did they have you do in the 1man instance? Did the content vary by class?

Difficulty wasn't the problem.

The problem was group sizes and logistics.

Running 5 * 5man groups != balanced 25 man groups.
Likewise with Karazhan. You either have 2.5 groups and cycle some people out, or you have 3 groups and 5 people get screwed for the 25 mans. It was just bad set up. Your small number of (tanks or healers, generally the smallest set) will get burned out on running 5 mans to attune every new guild member in order to get enough folks together to consistently hit 5 mans.

They should have made Gruul and Magtheridon the only gates on SSC and TK. If you can't take them down, you'll likely not do well in SSC and TK anyway. They're simple to get to and have no requirements themselves. Heroics and 5 mans are just for gearing up to those things, not a forced set of hoops to jump through in order to get to something else.

I think changing the attunement pattern was a good idea. Simply removing it altogether doesn't seem to be the best thing, but whatever. If you can't hack Gruul + Mag, then you'll be banging your head against SSC and TK for a while anyway.

I don't know why people are expecting Great New Things in Starcraft 2.

Blizzard is not known for innovation anymore. The last remotely innovative product was Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. And even then, it was a derivation on Dune 2 with a Warhammer flavor.

Everything since has been highly derivative.

Are they good games? Yes.
Are they exceptionally polished (arguably the highest degree of polish in the entire gaming industry?) Yes.
Are they building on top of what was already there? Yes.

Their products are iterative and derivative. This isn't a bad thing, imho. Especially from a business sense. Let someone else find the clinching gameplay, and then polish it until it's perfect. They did this with Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, WoW. Are any of these bad games because they are derivative? I say no.

Let someone else push the boundaries of innovative gameplay. Let Blizzard do what they're best at, making rock solid, polished games.

Edit: Dune 2, not Dune 2000, woops.

Well, head-to-head means two+ sides/people squaring off against each other, so their usage of it doesn't strike me as being odd. At most it might be slightly redundant.

In the context of the quote, it seems to me that, aside from indirect competition (where cards and shooting range scores are your proxy battles), you're aiming to do significant bodily harm directly to one another.

Head-to-Head == Player Versus Player. I'll just assume you've never heard the term before.

I don't get it. What's wrong with head-to-head combat? You don't like PvP?

Well, I guess they just got it wrong for me then.

If it had been near where I lived I think I would have correlated it better.

Interesting. The coordinates are a mile or two from Microsoft Game Studios. I can't imagine that's a coincidence.

If you can't see the difference between discontinuing a service that you have elected to pay for and giving up your citizenship, there is no hope for you at all, and it's really pointless to continue to respond to anything you say. Adieu.

No, sorry, still not comparable with "If you don't like this country, leave".

I did not tell him to quit (and he already did, if you would read down). I stated that he has the option of leaving if he is so truely dissatisified with the state of the game. It can be infered from his comment that the quality of the game has not improved over quite some time after multiple patches and that he is fed up with it and feels he has exhausted all options.

He is perfectly free to leave the game without incurring any negative consequences. It's obvious he wasn't having fun as is, so he's obviously not losing out on the chance to have fun.

As a citizen, leaving a country (as in, renouncing citizenship) has numerous consequences and repurcussions. Not in any way comparable to not paying to play a game anymore. Sorry. Just doesn't fit. Your strawman is up in smoke.

If you don't like something, do you just sit there and complain about it even though it doesn't change? Seems like a rather stupid way to go through life; but I doubt you do that anywhere except on message boards.

Last I checked, no one is forcing you to play.

That's as bad as the "If you don't like this country, LEAVE!" argument.

If he's a paying customer, he has a right to complain about the content being provided to him.

Er, no. Not comparable at all.

As a citizen of a democratic republic you are afforded certain rights (voting, for example, with a handful of exceptions) that let you put in your say as to how the country is run.

As a paying customer of World of Warcraft you only have as much say as Blizzard is willing to listen to. You can vote with your dollar, and if they're nice, they'll listen to message board feedback. But really, if you don't like something you've volunteered to pay for. Um. Stop paying for it.

I didn't enjoy my warrior really. But then, I didn't go out of my way to make sure his gear was always == his level. (then, I only got to 20 or so on him). Enjoy my mage much much much much more. Rogue is okay, though Outlands is brutally unfriendly to melee and rogues in particular. Almost every mob has a bleed or poison or curse or magic DoT.

Working on a shammy and a warlock... both are okay, still not as fun as my mage was 1 - 70.

oh great another wow patch adding a high end cut and paste raid instance that is probably not tested and full of faction grinding. YAY!

Last I checked, no one is forcing you to play.

Last I checked, he didn't say he DID play.

Seems strange to cry and moan about a game you don't play. Maybe some people just like to cry and moan. How sad.

Judging by http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=75215&id=366706&boardid=1&view=threads

He used to play it. And left for LOTRO. So one might assume that he has no direct knowledge of the content added (Black Temple, then, few do), so really, he's just moaning because he really did like WoW for a long time, burned out, and is now bitter. He should lighten up, enjoy LOTRO until he burns out on that and move on. Bitching about things without actual evidence is stupid and pointless. Sure, he could be right, but he could be wrong just as equally. But he stopped playing, so why does he care what he's missing out on?
