I don't know why people are expecting Great New Things in Starcraft 2.
Blizzard is not known for innovation anymore. The last remotely innovative product was Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. And even then, it was a derivation on Dune 2 with a Warhammer flavor.
Everything since has been highly derivative.
Are they good games? Yes.
Are they exceptionally polished (arguably the highest degree of polish in the entire gaming industry?) Yes.
Are they building on top of what was already there? Yes.
Their products are iterative and derivative. This isn't a bad thing, imho. Especially from a business sense. Let someone else find the clinching gameplay, and then polish it until it's perfect. They did this with Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, WoW. Are any of these bad games because they are derivative? I say no.
Let someone else push the boundaries of innovative gameplay. Let Blizzard do what they're best at, making rock solid, polished games.

Edit: Dune 2, not Dune 2000, woops.
