DG: In game advertising, or any other non-direct profit scheme, will not have a noticble effect on the free market equillibrium. Consumers will still pay what they are used to paying and the supplier/manufacturer will see their bottom line increase, therefore increasing their stock value. This makes the stockholder, the REAL boss, very happy.

If the local hardware store offers to pay you $1000 a month to wear a giant hammer shaped hat everywhere you go, most people would consider it. While you are making money and "possibly" bringing in new business for the store, they are paying for the subconscious exposure, thus the true focus of advertising.

In game ads are only going to be a concern of people who have nothing better to do than jump on whatever hate bandwagon is the in thing (Fileplanet, Starforce, Jack Thompson, MMOs, Horse Armor). I could care less about seeing a billboard or a poster in a game for a product. The "realism" can't possibly be tarnished by it as games are not real. They are games and are a fun activity. If you want to escape for your daily lives, unplug your electronics and take a fucking walk.

I guess businesses trying to make money is a new concept for you people. That is what a free market economy does.

Perhaps communism is more your style.

I had a blast with the demo and preordered the game the day after I completed the demo. Like you said, it may not be perfect, but it has a great atmosphere and was a blast to play. Looks awesome too.

All I have to say is WOW. What an amazing game. I had a fucking great time with the demo. From the little touches like playable video games and real world music to to fantastic levels.

I cannot WAIT for the final version.

First of all they never said it was free, they said it was not a subscription based model, which I think is far superior to the monthly subscription concept. Second, and more importantly, Arenanet has been saying since the beginning that this is NOT an MMO and never will be.

I think that the developers did a great job with the game and for all that is included in the expansion as listed previously, it may be worth a look.

I am playing GalCiv2 at 1920x1200 on my 24" widescreen Looks fantastic and is a blast to play. If you like 4x games, get this one NOW!

Like the above poster, I was playing minutes after my purchase. The stardock software is friendly, and more importantly, not annoying.

I am picking this up not only because I enjoyed the demo, but moreso to support the ex-Westwoodians working at Petroglyph. After the sheer gaming fun they have given me over the years and the shit they went through with EA, they deserve my $50 in their new endeavor.

Also, considering that this is the studio's first game, it is a fantatic showing.

Yeah I was in the beta. It was HORRIBLE. Looked, ran and controlled like shit. It was about as fun as minesweeper without the mines.

I uninstalled it after about 2 hours of headaches.

I am really happy that these displaced Westwoodians are finding post EA success with Empire at War and now this.

I have a strong feeling that Petroglyph is going to be a powerhouse in the gaming industry. They definitely have the talent and it shows with the publishing deals they are getting right out of the chute. I mean their first 2 games are published by Lucasarts and Sega.

I can't wait to pay their games.

I am buying this today. Not because it is a great game, it is serviceable. Not because of its amazing design, though 70-100 hours of play ain't too shabby.

I am buying it because it has CO-OP. I will buy ANY game that has co-op in it. I want developers that include this feature in their games to be rewarded for it. Any game is much more fun with co-op in it. I wish other developers would wake up and see that.

Wish ATI would hurry up and release their latest drivers to non X series mobility chipsets (9700 , 9800 etc and not just x800). (indented/italic)

I found that the Omega drivers work perfectly for the Mobile non-x series cards.

Let us not forget Custer's Revenge for the good ol' Atari.

The object of the game to run as fast as you could to rape indian women tied to poles. Seriously.

Now imagine the shit that a game like that would cause today.

50 player maxed instanced towns, 8 player max instanced PvE and 8v8 max player GvG is not massive. It is cooperative. People seem to think that because you are online, you are playing an MMO. If you added a "city" to an FPS, say Battlefield 2, you would have a similar setup as GW honestly. Even then developer refuses to call the game an MMO. They call it a "a mission-based competitive online role playing game" according to the following official press release.

Alamar, you have to understand that if you post even a slightly opposing view to the norm here at Bluesnews, that is the reaction you get. I appreciate your level-headed response.
