Hi Blue,
In Ottawa (Canada) we have similar issues with snow and fire hydrants. However, in the late fall the city comes around and fastens a long, thin, orange coloured piece of metal onto the fire hydrant. Once attached the top of the metal piece is about 5 feet - so no matter how much it snows you can always find the hydrant. Makes life alot easier for all parties involved. And hey - give Ottawa some of tht snow - it would be nice to go to Tremblant and snowboard in 2 feet of powder!!. Take it easy on your back and I hope the snowplow doesn't ruin all your hard work :)).
Cheers,
