if there's going to be a monopoly on publishers, I'd really rather anyone other than EA :/

I oppose any sort of monopolization of the industry. We wouldn't even have much of an industry if it wasn't for mod teams and independent developers. Just take a look at a few that succeeded and truly advanced game development by staying true to their vision, or when compared to EA, even having a vision at all:

id (and Raven, etc)
Epic
Crytek
2015 (and Infinity Ward, etc)
Bioware
Ion Storm (for Thief, Deus Ex)
Valve
Akella
(Apologies to anyone that I didn't mention)

So what has EA done for the industry compared to them? EA won't even put out mod tools for their games!

EA is a sweatshop, they're the Microsoft of the game industry, putting out the same **** year after year, or putting out mediocre derivatives of original games. Yeah, it's good "business," but it's not good for anything else.

Hmm... strange that this was announced soon after a particular 'fun mod' was harkened as deadly successful.

Brain Bread. If you haven't heard of it, check it out. Something tells me that this game will be largely similar in scope and style.

Call it a ...hunch.

Nope, it's just a coincidence. George Romero has talked about his intention to make a video game many times before, this isn't anything new.

But just because he's attached his name to a project doesn't mean it will necessarily be good. If he doesn't have the gamer "awareness" in him, he's not going to get the pacing right; movie pacing doesn't work with games, it's a bit different than that.

So I hope George has been playing alot of games, otherwise he's in for a rude awakening that so many Hollywood types before him have had that haven't taken the art (or craft?) of game development seriously.

It won't be Resident Evil in space, it will be Resident Evil: Apocalypse in space and without Milla Jovovich. Instead you will get to watch some hairy muscle man in her place.

Btw, this is the gayest quote of the week:

Because let's be honest here: as far as a completely immersive and cinematic experience, we were never going to top Doom 3 anyway, and we all knew that.

The guy is making a movie and says the game is more cinematic!? Who hired this fool? Does he even understand the meaning of the word!?

Doom/Quake/HL never really had MP that was particularly good, it was barebones. Let's remember who created the best MP for those games, it was the modders. Team Fortress, Counterstrike, etc., weren't created by id or Valve, and multiplayer of that type continues to dominate.

I didn't like Doom3. I wasn't scared by it, I was bored by it. I am reluctantly trying to force myself to finish it.

The level design was top notch as always, the engine was also once again visually stunning, but the gameplay design was like something done from a "How to Make Games" book. It's like ignoring everything that's happened since the original Doom came out, this kind of thing doesn't fly any more, except for maybe people who have never played an FPS.

The reason I'm writing this is to say to all the reviewers that gave this game a 10 or five stars: BULLSHIT! If Doom3 was made by someone other than id, they would have rated it alot differently! I give it a 7.

Hey,that Chenbro Gaming Bomb review had a topless woman in the ad. Is this sort of thing allowed now?

Not that I'm complaining, it was just a little surprising.

You're forgeting Operation Flashpoint, and maybe even Morrowind. HALO had outdoor "levels", OFP had entire islands, even bigger than those in Far Cry and just as non-linear and with entire squads you could command. With some scripting, you could even command an entire army, like an RTS game.

HALO wasn't exactly bad, but it wasn't a "pioneer" of anything really. For outdoor games, that honor belongs to OFP.

The game industry sucks and always has, you've got to have something seriously wrong with you to want to be part of it. Publishers are full of **it and they constantly screw developers over.

But it's not really the publisher's fault, it's their money, what do you expect if you ask someone for $10m for an idea? They're going to want some kind of assurance that their $$$ isn't just going to disappear.

That's an oversimplification of the process, there are other issues involved, but basically it comes down to the publisher taking all the risk because it's their $$$.

On the other hand, if maybe we weren't bleeding $5b a month in Iraq, that money could have gone to developing games... or maybe even curing stupidity.

If David Allen has a genuine vision that he believes in, I wish him luck in finding a team and investors to help make it a reality.

People seem to think that adding "of Darkness" to the name of their game would make it cool. In reality, these games are about as dark as a broken lightbulb. Dark, but not quite.

The only cool "of Darkness" game was the original:

-= DAWN OF DARKNESS =-

They released the Lock On manual for download because the one that shipped with the game was incomplete and outdated.

I'm going to take back the allegation, because it seems this was a result of a lack of communication and exaggerated rumours of my demise. According to Two Guys Software, Ward Six Entertainment has been properly credited on the actual release, but not the website. Other smaller details are being worked out.

See, maybe we all can get along. :^)
