I wish *console* RPGs would die! I am convinced that they are created by a random number generator and no longer have any human input in their design.

I think I'll make a game for the CIA. It will be a tactical RPG using the Unreal 3 engine, sort of like Jagged Alliance, based around the CIA's funding of Bin Laden and Islamic terrorism during the 1980s. Think they'd be interested in a product like this?

Based loosely on the adventures of John Grimm in the current best-selling "Doom 3," the film is aiming to replicate the feel of the game as closely as possible, to be the most faithful video game adaptation ever.

Pitiful, truly pitiful.

Doesn't look that much different from a dozen other games that are coming out. The 3rd person combat is a major detractor if you're making a shooting-oriented game.

"No offense Derek, but if Eve Online couldn't attract an audience with it's semi-hardcore space simulation,..

They couldn't?"

Last estimated current subscribers of Eve: 50k
Last estimated current subscribers of WOW: 1.5 mil

The point is, hardcore space simulations like Eve have not faired very well, and Eve was regarded as a good game for it's attempt. But thanks for arguing anyways.

Eve Online looks amazing. If they'd get rid of the monthly fees alot more people would play.

If people keep buying it, they'll keep shoveling it out. It's your fault, console players. Stop worshipping franchises and publishers will have no choice but to concentrate on original games.

Sometimes I am amazed that publishers spend millions of $$$ on projects as bad this and refuse to take chances on original games. It is hard to believe that a room full of adults could approve a flaming piece of bull**** like this GTA: Scarface game.

05-04-2005 A new Army report on the death of former NFL player Pat Tillman in Afghanistan last year concluded that his uniform and body armor were burned a day after he was killed and before investigators had determined he was shot by his fellow soldiers.

Close Combat: Friendly Fire?

Or

Close Combat: Murderous Republican Bastards? :^)

Instead of Half-Life, HL2, Dues-Ex, System Shock 1/2, Max Payne and the many PC games I've left out that had cool/unique/memorable features about them, we'll get homogenized console games.

The simple fact of the matter is that the game industry has gone Hollywood. It was inevitable. The publisher sweatshops will continue to churn out games that are the equivalent of junk food. These people shouldn't be wasting so much time on games, it would make more sense to be in the oil business if all you're after is $$$.

But guess what, you people continue to buy it, so they'll keep putting it out. Who's fault is it? Stop buying shit console games and maybe they'll start to listen!

I think the entire MMORPG genre is going to go down in flames soon. All the games have almost identical repetitive, unrewarding, simplistic gameplay and rely on the obsessive-compulsive tendencies of certain people to keep them subscribed. Even the most gullible of players are eventually going to realize that paying a monthly fee for an MMORPG of the quality we have today really is about the same as having a drug addiction.

Or maybe like paying to be a rat in a maze. You think it's cool because there are so many other rats there with you, little do you realize that the joke is on you.

revolutionary new multi-point melee system which allows the players to swing their weapons where they direct it, in real-time!

Um no. Die by the Sword did that ages ago. It rocked too.

Um no. I did it before Die By The Sword in my Q2 TC, and we didn't even have full access to the engine or a budget:

http://mods.moddb.com/2516/

As a matter of fact, DoD was the first "action-adventure FPS" to have multi-choice dialogue (like KOTOR or Deus Ex), searching of bodies, multi-object puzzles/quests, "advanced" AI, 1st person AND 3rd person views w/ cameras, large outdoor environments, and a bunch of other things.

Too bad the whole thing fell apart, only got 4 buggy levels done before the team had to split up for the usual "real life" reasons. :^/ I think with another year or two we could have perfected it. Having access to the engine and a budget might have helped too. :^)

Episode III Rage of the Wookiees includes the Varactyl, Obi Wan’s gorgeous and sure-footed mount, exclusively.

What they do is they use the characters everyone knows and they hire those actors to be there and only to introduce very minor characters. And then for the next hour they shoot and kill each other.

Do you people understand yet why EA sucks?
