A more plausible scenario would be North Korea and/or China attacking Japan. Bad blood there, going back to WW2, and its not like Japan could easily defend itself against either of those. But a war between China and North Korea, the closest of allies and the only two Communist powers (well, real powers) left in the world? I don't think so.

But then again, keep in mind the IS Tom Clancy wer're talking about. America has no real enemies, not in the form of nations in any case, so he has to imagine these far out scenarios to give himself a big ol' "defenders of freedom" chubby.

democracy is a wonderful system, its just that it relies on the people actually giving a damn about their situtation which apprently they don't. That how these ass hats can push through insane legislation to suit their own agendas. Its not even the majority man, the majority of people either use or support filesharing. Its just a few mofos with power throwing their weight around, and everyone is too apathetic/stupid to stop them...

"Florida businesses and residents -- and even some officials in the Florida Department of Revenue -- agree that the wording of the law is too broad. "

from the "Florida to Tax Home Netowkrs" article

"Jessica Litman, a professor at Wayne State University who specializes in copyright law, said the language was "worded so broadly" that it would put Web sites such as Tucows, which hosts peer-to-peer clients like the Morpheus software, at risk for "inducing" infringement. "

from the Senate Bill bans P2P networks article

___

And this is from two, unrelated articles on two seperate laws. Carte blanche anyoone?

also: "An early version of the IICA seen by CNET News.com was called the Inducement Devolves into Unlawful Child Exploitation Act, or Induce Act. The final version appears to be identical. "

unbelieveable....

ohhh yesssss, I'll lure the little ones back to my insidious lair with promises of candy and free Avril songs..and then they'll be mine! mine to corrupt, mine to brainwash. I'll teach them dangerous, radical, anti-American things, and turn them againast their parents, against their nation, against capitalism itself.

Its all so clear..damn you Orrin Hatch for having the sheer unbridled intellect to unmask my ploy. Damn you!

___

Seriously guys, this is the same asshole who though that the government should (not to mention COULD) remotely blow up people's computers for filesharing. I'de be surprised if he even knew how to turn a computer on. How do these ultra-conservative dinosaurs get so much power?

anither one bites the dust

this is a very, very bleak time for PC gaming. Franchise after developer after game, succesful ones at that, have been dumped or sold or disbanded. Its very disheartening. We need some avid PC gamer with tons of cash and a philanthropic spirit to form a decent publishing house. Ah, I can dream, can't I?

Prime: do you know something I dont? I tried clicking the "download" button, and it leads to a screen where you select your preferences for download (file type, high or low resolution etc). So far so good. But the trouble is that as far as I can tell, any and all options lead to the "please sign up for Gamespot Complete" screen. I must admit, I didn't try for very long; about 2 minutes and then gave up. Also, double-clicking the movie window does nothing, despite what the little caption below the movie says (allegedaly it is supposed to give you full-screen, though I think thats just a throw-back from the real WMP, not intended for web purposes)

So...

can someone get a decent sized video of that Brothers in Arms clip up for DL somewhere? It looks really great, but its about the size of a postage stamp, and most people here don't have a Gamespot membership...

Filerush doesn't have it, I just checked...

Frankly, the facial movements, body posture and all those little touched that make an NPC look human, in my opinion BiA trumps even HalfLife2. Pretty amazing stuff...

If it ain't Westwood, it aint CnC. Not that I was ever a huge fan of the series, but I still didn't like to see it go. Damn corporate suits and their stupidity.

basically, what zipr said. That, and the fact that the game is grossly misprepresenting the actual situation.

The difference is, most console owners are casual gamers. No coop? Who cares, they don't "follow the news" to know it was even an option. Crappy graphics? Compare to other console games, they will probably be outstanding. Mundane multiplayer? Anythings better than splitscreen.

PC gamers are the die-hards, the frankly, nerds. We post angry shit on Blues if we don't get our co-op or or multiplayer or our per-pixel lighting. If you're going to shortchange someone, how much sense does it make to do it to the group who will notice, and bitch about it, instead of those who neither know nor care.

And its absolutely true, about id and Microsoft.

"oh, don't mind us and our truck full of money. We'de really appreciate it if you could maybe leave out co-op on the PC, but no pressure or anything. We'll just leave this money over here and go away for a while, and if it happens to be gone when we come back, well, no big deal, we're all friends here."

Yeah, someone should seed the non shakey-cam version of the HL2 video. Suprnova doesn't have it, and the Filerush link is down, probably GS threatened em.

edit doesn't seem to be working.

"I own Tribes 2" as in "I have the CD", not implying that I am any good at it. Just to clarify. I played it for a few weeks before I re-affirmed my belief that multiplayer ain't my cup of tea.

Tribes:Vengance looks to be an improvement in every way possible. I own Tribes 2, and played Tribes 1 briefly, but not enough to be considered among the hardcore fans.

Lets see:

-Singleplayer storyline (and an engaging and innovative one at that)
-Much, much cooler art direction
-Better graphics (obviously)
-A mix of old and new weapons
-"Focused" the vehicles in to 4 instead of 6
-Multiplayer seems to be intact with everything the diehards love
-Deep character development

sounds good to me. Personally, if game doesn't have singleplayer I more or less ignore it. But with T:V, you can have your cake and eat it too.

BTW: FEAR looks amazing.

Every engine that uses poly-bumping (Doom 3, Far Cry etc) has everything looking shiny and plastic-like, but the devs usually work the technology around a bit so that its not terribly noticeable.

None of that here though, the screenshots look horrible. Part of SC's charm is that everything looks very realistic. No, it has nothing to do with the lighthouse and nothing to do with the rain, thats the way the engine looks. Someone should do something about this, its just looks bad.

Guys, disqualifying the entire first person shooter genre, not to mention the myriad of FPS hybrids, just becuase "its been done before" is a pretty stupid attitude. All this screenshot shows is the perspective, nothing more. How about be get some basic info, like ooooh maybe the name, before criticising it the prophesing its doom?

The graphics look decent, and I for one don't find the massive amount of sparks to be a bad thing. It could be great, it could suck. It leads me to believe there will be bullets flying everywhere, which could lead to some interesting gameplay.

Also, anyone catch that guy in the background jumping over a barricade? Pretty swanky.

Multiplayer would rock. There are certain games which at first glance don't lend themselves to multiplayer (Deus Ex, Prince, Max Payne), but usually when mulitplayer is implemented, it ends up being very innovattive and a refreshing change from the FPS fragfests. Case in point, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorow.

Though one thing I don't like here is the Baddassafication of the Prince, to cater to the mass market. From what little you can gather given the number of pixels that made up the Prince (original), he wasn't a muscular, tatooed, wall jumping hero. in PoP and in this new one, the character seems to be slipping towards the typical, cliched badass.

Coooool.

I have yet to play PoP:Sands of Time, on account of my crappy graphics card, but the minute I upgrade...

The original Prince is among my top 5 favourite games of all time, fond childhood memories to be sure.

The website picture (Prince with two swords) looks awesome, though the rollover sounds are sort of wierd, they souund like they're out of a beat-em-up.

Does anyone know is Jordan Mechner is also involved with this one?

Could someone with a NYTimes subcription post that "Disney Forbidding Distribution of Film That Criticizes Bush" article, I'm pretty interested to see what it says. I would really appreciated it if its not a problem.

In other news, the FCC is going way, way too far with this. Only in the US is there such a stigma on mature content. The Europeans and most others around the world are living the high life; porn during the daytime, swearing at will. When will people grow up and stop catering to the hypersensitive concercns of a few soccer moms, its like having Ned Flanders in charge of TV programming.

I love all of T:V's vehicle designs, some of the best I've ever seen.

See, thats what Planetside should he been like.
