Oh and as for the comment about RtCW not having any boat:
From Financial statement of Activision 1/2002:

Return to Castle Wolfenstein was the #1 selling premium priced PC title in the U.S. during the holiday season, according to NPD Intelect. The company has shipped more than one million units of the game, making it one of the best-selling PC software titles of the holiday season.

Just like every other game. Squeeze blood from a rock. Half-Life gold, platinum, uranium, and californium versions. Half-life 2? Oh we'll leave that unsecure. No worries. No one's really excited about it anyway.

Well you can modify the crosshair to a small dot.
If you get on a server with the OSP mod you can change the color to some nice day glo color like lime green or something. Not that it helps my aim but it might help you.

Failing that, just download ET which has the OSP component built into the game and go all "queer eye for the colored crosshair."

"Ohmigod! Just look at this violet purple crosshair. To Die for, it just goes so well with my Grey Axis uniform. Sieg Heil honey!"

And unfortunately fighting zombies was 1/3 of the game. Ugh. Now shooting the SS troops, robots, and mutants. Fun.
I still haven't put down the multiplayer either. I swear there's probably a groove in my disk where that game is installed.

That's true but I guess if someone is too lazy to download Enemy Territory for free and they missed the boat on RtCW the first time here's their chance to get caught up on everything I suppose.

$30 for those two games isn't a bad deal, IMO since the online community for both games is still pretty strong. More so for ET though (the price is right online for sure).

What about Windows 2003?!

I would hazard a guess that if it works in win2k it'll work in windows 2003

Thanks Valcor. The site's just for fun. My real job needs to pay the bills.

Any rate, if you hate/like the CoD review check out the rest of the site where I have reviews that I did for the sanitarium as well as Swankygames.com, which is finally coming back after a hiatus since Kamarov went to work for a gaming company designing levels.

Which makes me jealous to no end. "Ok, we want you to work for us where you'll play games, design levels, and then test games based on the newest game engines out there. Oh, and we'll pay you to do that."

My biggest request was being able to bind a key to change class (and specify weapon), so next time I die (or when I hit my kill bind) that I could be the class I wanted/needed, with out having to go to limbo menu. You can do this on some servers, running certain mods, but it would be nice to do it on all! Hopefully in next release!

Spoiler pick up a MG40 learn it and survive
-----------

I'm assuming you meant the MP40 and you're absolutely right. I've used that freaking gun so much in RtCW, ET, and now Call of Duty that I could probably field strip one on sight. And having to use a bolt action rifle in the game really makes you wonder how nerve racking that must've been in those city battles where it'd be become an issue of who could reload their rifle the fastest.

Snide, thanks. Criticism is always fine.

Dagok, perhaps I should've said, "This game ran fine on my personal machine. Your mileage may vary." Yeah. I'll edit that into it.

I would have to post spoilers to give you examples, there or 10's of these, DO IT EXACTLY LIKE WE WANT YOU TO PLAY THE GAME or else we will KILL YOU OFF. REALLY I swear, in certian areas if you run in direction they dont want you to you just DIE, not bomb no gun. Then there is a place where if you dont keep your head down you get shot, BUT THERE ARE NO SNIPERS OUT THERE, I LOOKED
You just DIE <-------------BULLSH*IT

-------

True enough. I could definitely tell where the scripted elements were but what was nice about Call of Duty was that it was done well enough that unless I deliberately went around trying to shoot your squadmates it didn't break the believability too much for me.

Appearently you haven't been reading various message boards where hoards of people are complaining about the Catalyst driver support. Using Catalyst 3.8 drivers the game crashes randomly. Documentation states to use 3.7, ok fine, so you switch to 3.7. Here is the problem, when you are in a nearby explosion and your bell gets rung (or the death sequence) the graphics are supposed to go all blurry. With Catalyst 3.7 drivers the graphics are corrupted.

------------

You're absolutely right. I didn't read those. I use a Radeon 9700 Pro and use the Catalyst 3.7 drivers so I didn't have a problem. Since I do not have the time or desire to read the drivel of every single gaming message board out on the Internet I can only test it on my one lone machine and go from there.

Also, I did not have graphic corruption problem on my machine using the 3.7 drivers that you discuss. The bell ringing effect worked fine.

Sorry you didn't like it. Sometimes the jokes work. Sometimes they don't.

I just get tired of reading reviews like what is on Gamespot and Gamespy where they drone on and on about nonsensical things about graphic engines or gloss over problems with the game that are in all honesty serious issues and then they slap on a super-duper-they-paid-us-a-lot-so-we-give-them-an-award award.

I play a game and write my review about it and do so with a clear conscience since I'm not being told by anyone else to write a good/bad review due to the fact that they bought so much ad space this month.

The issue is to me how the game plays. And for me Call of Duty plays well (great even) in single player but the multiplayer needs some serious polishing to hold my attention for long.

As for the issue about Nazis. I stand by it. They are the best bad guys to shoot hands down. Wolfenstein (all three flavors of it), Call of Duty, heck even the Indiana Jones games from a while back. You can't go wrong with shooting jerks with swastikas.

Or perhaps I've watched too much History Channel and RtCW over the years to think logically about Nazis. I mean, they just need to die. Repeatedly and often.

Any rate, I appreciate the comments. Angry posts on the Web. Top of the world, ma!!

Cheaters and what not will probably be addressed with an addition of Punkbuster (www.evenbalance.com) at some later date with a patch since it is a Q3 based game and PB is already used in SoF2 and the Wolfenstein series of games (RtCW and ET). It doesn't catch all the cheats probably but a good number of them.

The multiplayer doesn't really excite me after what I read on ign.com about how there is a team aspect of the game but it's one-life-to-live. Basically, once you die, you sit in limbo till end of round (counter-strike style). I'm more of an unlmited lives or limited lives player like what was in RtCW or ET with all the mixture of classes and things like that.

I hope there's a dedicated server component in the game so I can get that setup on my server box. I think that should start being standard opearting procedure in shooters like this.

In answer to the question regarding the weapons in Enemy Territory. Here's the quick rundown
Medics, Lieuts(err..support now) -- No changes from RtCW
Engies -- Standard weapons as well as the ability to carry a standard M1 Garand Rifle with a rifle grenade. Also they can plant mines
Soldiers - MG42 Portable (replaces Venom), Panzer, Flame, standard guns and possibly the Paratroop rifle(?) [that was there at Quakecon but uncertain now]
Covert Ops - Silenced Sten, sniper rifle, smoke grenades, and ability to wear the uniforms of the other team.

In no way do I take blame if this is wrong though
