Yes, but the real question on everyone's mind for BFV is can we sit around the base listening to Jimi Hendrix drinking beers and smoking the marijuana and the heroin?

No that's Battlefield: HomeFront. You can take either Team Mcnamara or Team Hendrix. Team McNamara you are a member of the National Guard who must fight Team Hedrix which, due to their state of mind due to controlled substances, have high health and stamina making killing them difficult while Team Hendrix also has the Black Panthers to provide localized territory support in the urban warfare scenarios.

Dantastic, did you try the manual update files for PB in Enemy Territory? Link below points to files which help if PB is failing on your system.

There are medics in Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory. Go there for your medic fix. It works for me.

Given the source of the news story, the fact that there's not much in the way of details, or any more information that can be found out about this inventor, I'll hold off judgment. Besides which it's not the most novel idea. Many people (sci-fi writers mostly) have thought of this in the past and worked it into their stories.

Oh sure, use it for something useless like database cross checking instead of a massive Wolfensetein map. MarketGarden hosted on RAM? Yes please.

Wait, didn't a patch for this game already come out? Yet it hasn't shipped? I'm confused.

Cause you were lagging so hard that you were warping across the screen. They couldn't shoot you.

Azraelot. On your statement about the 9800 and Ti4400. You're right there isn't much difference except for some small tweaks in image quality that can be perceived. It seems to me that the GPUs are outstripping the development of new games. Games take 2-3 years to make while GPUs are jumping to new generations every.. 9-12 months?

Heck, my 9700Pro, itself not something to scoff at, played Painkiller brilliantly on my admittedly lower end AMD 1600XP. And that card is 2-3 years old.

The only problem with my system right now is that my CPU is actually the bottleneck. The rather huge drops in frames per second I see on Wolfenstein between close indoor fights and running around outside on a map like mp_beach are very clear. (indoor close corridors I can push about 150+ fps while outdoor expanses drop into the 40s)

Regardless, even if Nvidia slaps their label on all the games for the next 2 years on every game I don't see the big deal. I mean, all games will be using OpenGL or DirectX anyway so the particular "preferred" card seems about as important to me as whether you have Intel or AMD chip in your machine to run Windows.

That's my understanding too. You can install the 1.3 beta and then use this I suppose. Or just wait till the official 1.3 and go from there.

Personally, that's what I'm going to do and finally try CoD again online

If you go back to the main screen of the game there's a "Random Mission" (or words to that effect).

The missions with the soldiers head, according to the manual, were also random missions where you can find weapons/tools that you normally wouldn't find in the regular missions.

Falling,
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if you were right. I've started taking the position that until the device/game/software is in my hands or confirmed on some news sites, I dismiss it as vaporware or a bunch of marketing hogwash.

For example, Half-Life 2 and Doom3. People have seen it but I'm more prone to believe what I've read about Doom3 since I have had the good fortune to see it in action at quakecon.

But then you get down into the dregs like this whole Phantom console thing and it just makes me yawn until some sort of product is shown. It appears HardOCP did some good investigating in their story (this is the first time I read it actually) so it appears these Infinium people are upset over something that is their own fault.

I was seriously tempted to pick up T3:War of the Machines just to see how bad it was. Then I had to have work done on my car. Play a poorly reviewed bad game for a laugh or be able to drive to work?

I know. I felt really bad cause I was playing it and I was appreciating it at some sort of technical/cereberal level but I didn't feel a compelling reason to continue forth with it. Maybe I've played too many shooters these past few years or maybe I just didn't like the micromanagment of a turn based game.

I was really hoping to like it as well since I had heard so many good things from a few friends and even the guys at Penny Arcade espousing it's virtues. And I know they often don't give high praise unless they really think it's deserving.

Again though, I can't find any technical fault with the game. Maybe if these guys teamed up with Bioware they could make some interesting story driven game or something.

Gawd I can't believe I said that considering I often look for less story in some games and still consider Serious Sam series and Wolfenstein (with it's sub-B movie) two of my favorite game series.

For even MORE giggles, I installed the drivers that came with my video card and got these results:
Fastest:
Application Preference: 51.6 FPS (AA appears to have been turned off).
4X Anti-Aliasing: 46.8 FPS
So, do the new drivers give me no increase but better stability? Appears so.

Timdemo in ET Feb 12, 2004, 19:09

I pulled instructions on how to run a timedemo from here:
http://www.nd80usa.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5049&start=0 which is a popular ET community

So, I took these drivers and uninstalled my 3.7 drivers. Then I fired up a timedemo using Enemy Territory. Here's the results:
Old drivers test:
Fastest: 58.6 FPS
Fancy: 47.0 FPS

Now with newest drivers

Fastest: 46.9 FPS
Fancy : 40.6 FPS

A decrease in FPS after a new driver? Odd but possible I suppose.

I must add a caveat that between the time I ran the 3.7 and 4.2 driver test I probably messed with the ATI control panel. To test that I ran the tests with ATI control panel defaults (application preferences) for OpenGL and recieved the same FPS on the fastest demo: 46.9 FPS.

For giggles I'm going to go back now and install the default drivers that came with the card and re-run the demo to see what occurs.
