Sure, it looks/sounds good and has atmosphere, but the repetitive gameplay dampened my enthusiasm

Wait, what's the problem?

How many times have I played Wolfenstein multiplayer or beat Medieval: Total War? I say bring it on.

I'm afraid I don't understand the problem. The benchmark I used for ET from nd80usa.net was setup to test the system based on a baseline demo and graphical settings. While I could run the test at different details that would skew the results to differ from what others have been running that stress test on their machines.

And in defense of ET, most major hardware sites still use that as a benchmark for OpenGL testing and then even older games for other types of tests. Serious Sam and Comanche 3 (or 4?) for example are often used still.

My point in running the ET test was to show the jump in performance I received by running that one test on both my old machine and then my system setup.

While I could use other tests (such as Far Cry), to be honest I didn't feel like it nor is it my intent to make the article a full write an all encompassing essay on every aspect of the new board.

Sure, I COULD have run memory bandwidth tests, hard drive read/write tests, and probably a couple other tests, but the Internet is flooded with articles like that which are probably written better and have prettier graphs. Me, I just have Excel

Thanks for reading the article and I appreciate the feedback.

Like all you "they only make engines" people won't be shitting your pants the first time you play Doom3.

Nah, I bought some Oops I Crapped My Pants. I use them, and I just did. No worries

I'm more interested in seeing what Nerve do with the D3 multiplayer and whatever project Gray Matter might have in the works.

[crossesfingers]
RtCW 2 where you go back into but this time your journey takes you to not only German strongholds but Japanese strongholds after you learn the Germans have smuggled some of their technology to Japan who desperately needs anything to stop the impending invasion of the home islands. Fight bio-engineered samurai nazis or mutated kamikaze soldiers.

And mutliplayer is actually not two-sided but THREE sided (Allied, German, Japanese) meaning a well balanced team will be successful in both the attack and defense, often at the same time.

I can only envision it

<opening scene> You hear Davd Lee Roth jabbering non-stop inter-cut with a few nervous laughs. "hey baby, there's no need for all this friction man. Let's just kick back and think about all this, y'know?"

Tony: STFU!

*bam* *bam* *bam*

And hopefully that's a message to any marketing people to not try and bring back anything from the 80s and exploit it again. Let day-glo colors die and be gone. Please.

I tend to agree with Quboid. There's not quite that viscereal rush of shooting a Nazi zombie as there is shooting a natural Nazi. Zombie Nazis, despite wanting to rule the world as well as eat your brains, don't invoke blood curdling hatred like a regular Nazi who put that Nazi uniform on under his own free will and thus deserves being turned into tiny little giblets with a Venom cannon.

Plus Nazi zombies just sorta drool and mumble stuff while regular Nazis of course speak German which just makes them sound even more evil.

I would be negligent if I didn't what I consider two axioms about games in regards to Nazis as said in Oldmanmurray.com

Because, seriously, making a game about Nazis and not having you somehow fight Hitler - whether he lives in a robot suit or flies around in a jet or maybe he's an armored dracula now or whatever - is retarded. If a game doesn't let you fight some form of Hitler - for instance, a giant Hitler - then that game will receive a warning sticker, in much the same way that the U.S. Goverment currently requires awful games to display on their box the universally understood symbol for unnacceptable quality, "Anne McCaffrey's".

I wish we lived in a world where all games were required to include Nazis. Though, now that I think about it, I'm describing a world where Germany won World War 2, such as the one portrayed in every novel, play, tv show, and movie about time travel. So let me qualify that: I want to live in a country that prohibits games that feature any type of enemy other than Nazis. Soldiers, robots, dogs - anything goes as long as they're Nazis or, in the case of dogs, German Shepherds.

To extend the argument: Hellboy, which comes out soon, didn't pique my interest all that much. But then after seeing more information, I learned they'll be man handling Nazis or something. That immediately gives it 2 stars on a scale of 4. Plus my $7 for the movie.

I just recently built a new system and was working on a write up about the build in the hopes that somehow it might be entertaining and/or help others when they build their own system.

Do you think Blue and Co. would post a link like that or should I go bother other websites to post the link? If so, any idea what sites would probably post such a story?

Thanks

Well, it's not exactly shooting Nazis but it's awfully close since hopefully you get to shoot Stalin who himself was a pretty big jerk too. That whole Purge thing probably doesn't leave him on the Christmas card list of St. Peter.

Heck, given that many things drawing power I'd go with 2 power supplies in the case if at all possible just to cover all the bases

Also, it appears the original poster had direct questions about the motherboard itself. Sorry, I don't know. I just searched giga-byte's website and found it. I've always been happy with Giga-byte's motherboards (but the manual is something else.. they have gotten worse).

Personally, I upgraded from AthlonXP chip to Athlon64. But if you want to know all about the Athlon64 motherboards then I can help

Again though I'd seriously consider making your boot drives Serial ATA since (a) it's faster (especially RAID 0 which is amazing) and (b) it will get rid of a few of those bulky IDE cables which just need to die a terrible fiery death. The sooner the better.

Bothersome:
http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7NNXP.htm

Product specs says: GigaRAID IDE RAID Controller:
Supporting RAID (0, 1, 0+1), JBOD function and ATA133 interface, GigaRAID Controller delivers completely solution for storage interface to increase fault tolerance, improve data access performance and provides additional interface for more IDE devices.

It also appears to have Serial ATA which, IMO, is the better way to go.

Possible solutions:

1. Get the latest version of macromedia flash player if you don't have it.
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

2. Do a windows update.

3. Windows has a history of not liking mobo upgrades. A lot of problems can arise if you didn't reinstall windows after upgrading your mobo.

1. Second thing I did
2. First thing I did.
3. Fresh install since I replaced the hard drive

Problem Mar 22, 2004, 12:16

Good day to one and all, this comment here is ask for a little help. I just upgraded my system (motherboard, hard drives, memory) but am coming across a problem specific to bluesnews.com

Anytime I open the site that first splash ad comes up and my machine locks up hard. This is under IE 6.0. However, what's odd is that I downloaded Netscape 7.1 and the site came up just fine.

As an expirement I went to ugo.com itself and the front page ad there worked fine. I also cleared out the file cache and it still locked. Other options I'm going to try is moving the IE cache to a new directory, or even try a repair/reisntall of IE 6.0.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'd appreciate it. I also have dismissed any memory problems since I ran about 10 programs which sucked away all the physical memory and there were no problems.

Thanks

Most the time i'm much better than anyone I personaly know anyhow, so its a waste of time. I also don't like the idea of being locked up in a room with kids as dorky or dorkier than I am.

Well hello Mr. FancyPants. Fine, you go enter the Q3 Tourney and see if you can get past even the first round.

For a minute you had me confused but now I understand. I guess you're talking about the AthlonXP chips (2800, 2500, etc)? Those are their budget ends now while the higher end Athlon64 are in the 3000,3200,and 3400 range (equivalent to clock speeds of 3Ghz, 3.2Ghz, and 3.4Ghz). Then there's also the higher end FX- series whose price is.... insane.

Note that even Intel is acknowledging (given they are changing naming practices) that the number of gigahertz is not the only determining factor in how fast a PC can go.

Wait, the article states that the new chips will use 512K cache and it suggests this is new news? However, I thought the existing Athlon64 (3000+) series used 512K cache, which explains why the 3000+ costs a bit less than the 3200+ which uses 1Meg cache?
