If I enjoyed BF2 will I enjoy this as well? PLEASE tell me it's not arcadey like BF2 where you have to empty a full clip to kill a person? This is coming from a guy that plays BF2 (Project Reality) I take my tactical strategy games seriously. But I still love the quake universe.

I played a lot of BF2/2142 as well and I do like the Quake Wars beta quite a bit. Visually of course it's a lot better but their fireteam system leaves a lot to be desired when compared to the squad system of BF2/2142. The fact that there is no native voice over IP is a bit perplexing, too.
They say there are plenty of third party options for that (Ventrilo, etc.) but it would have been a nice thing to have in those instances where you might actually want to talk to a squad mate.

As for the shooting, no you don't have to empty clips to kill someone. A burst or two usually does the trick. It's a much faster paced game than BF2 that is for sure.

Do they use starforce ? Also is there Ad's in the game? Think I'll pass if they have nasty stuff in the game. Be the first time I missed buying a ID game since Doom .

1. Starforce? Not that I'm aware of for this game

2. In-game ads? Yes, the idea being the ads will allow them to provide long-term support for the game in the way of the development of more maps and tech support over many, many years. Even if you're against ads in the game -- which I understand but it doesn't phase me much -- I think most people will be too busy dodging enemy fire to give it much of a second thought.

Wrong, that's how you're supposed to leave a Serious Sam game: a hyper-caffeniated burned out brain, WASD fingers cramped, mouse wrist sore, the image of zombie stockbrokers and TNT packing clowns burned into your retina, and the classic scream of headless kamikazze soldiers ringing in your ear.

The shelf space loss didn't really begin happening, as far as I can remember, until a few years ago when PC game sales started to decline. Retail stores work on pretty thin margins so they are going to give space to what sells which in the past few years has been consoles or other things.

Note what the article says though in that these figures don't include online sales or monthly subscriptions which would greatly increase the overall number I would imagine.

I was able play one small campaign to victory then I just had to quit because of information overload and I'd always lose track of units particularly spies and assassins.

I don't think there were too many cities but one thing that I wouldn't mind having the ability to turn off at the start of a campaign would be the Pope, he often just gets in the way of what I like about Total War: nonstop killing. "You all play nice or I'll call Crusade." Bah! That's why Viking Invasion was so much fun. No Pope, just slaughter.

I guess Eurogamer is basing their review on a beta since the game isn't out yet on the shelves?

During Quakecon '06 there were two different presentations about QW. During the first one someone asked about bots but Paul Wedgwood and Kevin Cloud said it was undecided at that point (August 2006)

BUT, the next day during a full Q&A session with the folks at id and Splash, Robert Duffie let it slip that bots were being developed for the game. This resulted in a moment of muttering between the people on the panel and then they all laughed about it.

Thanks for the second link, Blue. I don't believe the transcript caught every question or even caught them word for word but it's pretty close. I can only write so fast.

That seems to be correct. As you sprint your gun drops as if it's resting against your body while you run so you can't fire it.

I would agree with you Jerykk but I guess their thought process was since it's covering the first Strogg invasion of Earth (a sort of prequel to all of the other Quakes I suppose), then it should be given the Quake title.

Oh I didn't want that to sound like I was bitching about the cost but it was just cheaper to take the rail/bus system there rather than go through all that downtown so it is what we did.

As for the stamina issue their logic for it was that, "Well, we figure soldiers can run for more than a few steps without tiring so we removed it." Just fine by me.

I'm too cynical for that I guess. I'll see it when I believe it. And when I do see it, I call dibs at Qcon to play it!

Someone asked about any good mods. One is called USI which is set in the first Gulf War and includes such things as A-10 Warthogs, SU-25 ground attack jets, changes to the tanks including zoom and two different types of rounds (one for infantry another for armor). There's also been several tweaks to the base weapons and a nice addition for the engineers (man portable SAMs).

It needs a few extra city maps though as the mod only includes one right now but it's certainly a good city map.

I prefer Xfire and it works well with BF2.

If you want a change of pace and some open field armor action try the US Intervention mod (http://usi.jarhedz.com).

Very good mod for BF2.
