Good point. They have stopped supporting things over the past years. The website news almost never gets updated anymore. They stopped releasing file unpackers for modding and custom skins with their games. They have stopped releasing needed patches. I've not seen anything in any forums anywhere by them in several years. The list goes on.

There has also been a very high staff turnover rate at Ratbag over the years. Most of the top talent who worked on their best games are long gone. One of their most recent games, Dukes of Hazard was quite bad and got shredded in reviews.

My fingers are still crossed though. The media for Scavenger and Powerslide2 look excellent.

edit: Looks like their site just went down.

Ratbag just can't get a break. On their first game, Powerslide, their publisher(GT) went bankrupt just as the game was released. They didn't see a dime of the profits.

I hope they can reform as Ratbag again or as some other entity.

They had Powerslide2 almost done and were just looking for a way to publish it. Scavenger looks very cool too.

I got a chance to try someone's full version in single-player. It was much better than I expected. My expectations were somewhat low before I tried it. Raven did better than expected on the single-player. I ended up buying the full version after getting a chance to try it out.

Multiplayer is very simplistic though. No mech walkers, vehicles, mounted weapons, ,character classes, missions, objectives etc. It only has very basic DM and CTF which is just pathetic nowdays.

Another complaint is that it would freeze for a few seconds every now and then in new areas with lots of baddies. I have a pretty good system and was only running at 800x600.

What would be cool is if some of the stranger Strogg could be played in multiplayer. They would have to come up with vehicle-like control schemes for a few of them though.

I got a chance to try out the full version and it was better than I expected. My expectations were fairly low but after trying someone's full version, I went out and bought this. Raven did a better than usual job of level design.

Yep. I just found out and came back to edit. You beat me to it. This isn't the Star Wars title Raven involved themselves in.

From what I'm hearing, the consensus seems to be that the full version is much better than the demos if you can get your controller set properly.

Flatout 2 looks like it may be one of those few games which turns out even better than the original. I'm really liking what I'm hearing so far.

Although I liked Battlefront I, I think this one is pathetic so far. What happened ? Some of the content looks like it might be decent if they had kept the old game engine but they really messed it up bad.

First, I walked around right through about a dozen enemies for quite a while on medium difficulty and didn't even get scratched. I stopped bothering to shoot at them. I started going through the campaign and couldn't fail no matter what I did.

There are also more bugs than I feel like wasting time to list. Some of the worst are the sound bugs that come and go. Others won't recognize that you have completed objectives unless you redo them twice. One of the bugs may not even be a bug but just stupid design. Other people become transparent as you get near them. Why in the world would anyone think that this is a good idea ?

At least a few people must have talent over there though. There were some nice character models and a few other good things. Some of the decisions which were made simply make no sense.

I haven't tried multiplayer. That may be the only hope for anything good out of this.

edit: I got another chance to try it. The difficulty got slightly more challenging. I'll have to see what the hardest setting is like. I found even more bugs. I do like the fact that the campaign includes some objective based missions rather than just capturing control points. I'll have to see if the multiplayer maps also have any of this.

One good thing about it is there is an instant action level where if you choose the Hunt option, you play an imperial sniper and have to see how fast you can waste all of the Ewoks in the forest. Like I said, there are many good things about this game. However there are also some considerable problems.

More of the same stuff in the last two. I didn't buy either of them either.

You don't even get many of the cars and tracks if you just buy the regular edition.

EA is yanking the servers for multiplayer for Underground and some of the older NFS games. They will probably do the same for this one before long to try and force people into buying their next game.

EA has consistently ignored what what people have been howling for like muscle cars. Half of the people couldn't care less about modern tuners. They should have put the cops back in in the last game (in fact, they shouldn't have left them out of Underground). I don't recommend supporting this bs with your money. There are much better racing games out there now.

It wouldn't be too bad for a budget title but it was far too easy. I never even got wounded once and there were medkits everywhere.

What does the EA management have against old musclecars ?

Despite frequent loud calls for all of the recent NFS games to also include some classic musclecars, they continue to ignore them and just turn away half of their potential paying customers for no reason.

They seem obsessed with the Fast+Furious movies but even in them, there were old sixties and seventies musclecars. Even in the big dramatic finale in F+F Vin Diesel drove a musclecar.

The modern tuners just don't have any character to them and half of the race gamers have no interest in them.

Some people at EA really need to get a clue.

I love the first one and can't wait for Flatout2 ! This is number one on my list of future games that I am looking forward to.

For those looking for the mod sites, a few of the main ones are the MCO mod site (inspired by the Motor City Online muscle cars), R.E.G's site and Vales.com.

There are modded addon multiplayer programs, new cars, new car skins, physics and gameplay mods and others. No custom tracks though.

Destruction, old muscle cars, awesome graphics and physics... What more can you ask for ?

Heh. Maybe we should get Snopes to check it out and see if anyone really is working on DNF. I heard not too long ago that they hadn't made the final decision on which game engine to use (after years of supposedly working on DNF). I'm guessing that they've picked one by now but still ...

MODs to ET ? Oct 5, 2005, 18:22

Has anyone ever modded ET or RTCW MP so that one side can play as the undead ? With the extensive tools released it seems like it shouldn't be all that hard.

I'm looking forward to this although I do wish it was one of the original teams working on it ("original" in both senses of the word). Raven is ok but not great.

I'm very glad this is making it to PC. This console-only crud is really starting to annoy me. On the positive side, if gaming finally does go pretty much console-only, I will gleefully pitch my Windows CD in the garbage where it belongs and switch OS.

I liked the first one and like RTCW:ET. However, I really wish that the MP games would let one side have the option of playing the zombies or other creatures. There are so many straight WWII games out now that it would give them another way to stand out other than having the best multi-objective based MP.

I wish the old crew would work on the missions though. Raven tends to do competent work but I can't remember ever really going "ooh!" or "ahh!" on much that they've done.

I'll wait and see if this one has some imagination to it. The baddies in Q1 were amazing. The baddies in Q2 were mostly just weird looking humans with maybe a few mechanical parts. Q3 didn't even have any baddies.

I didn't buy Q3. It had very few modes and DM with no objectives just doesn't do much for me. Neither did the silly speed and movement.

If they try and overcharge like they have been doing then they can certainly forget about me buying this one too.

Looking at the screenshots and the trailer, only one of the baddies doesn't just look like a slightly mechanical human. I'm leaning against buying this even more the more I see and think about it.

ET:QW shows promise though.
