ok so the door is there, and placeholders etc. but i think we are forgetting the particulars of the PC development cycle. At some stage the execs had to say, "ok guys, this is supposed to go up on the shelves in xxx months, time to stop putting in new content and just focus on debugging the game as it is." Anything that was ready was in, anything that wasn't, was out. I don't buy for a minute that something was 'removed'... (content wise) which could have otherwise been present.
Also i do not accept that a developer saying that to have combat from a horses back would take a team of programers and testers xxx hours while a modder can do it in two weeks is a contradictory situation. Consider; a modder can do whatever and upload it onto a community with a text file saying he takes no responsibility for anything, anything B releases is held to a slightly higher standard i think. I mean do you really think that a single programmer who has worked on Ob for 2/3/4 years could not make such a mod faster than a 3rd party modder? of course they could, but could they release it as an official B mod? No, it would need to be planned, balanced and throughly tested.
thats my AUD$2
