Just got through downloading the full patch via Gog, all ~147 wondrous gbs of it. Looks good, but can I get into it again? That is the question. It's possible--yea, I do declare--it's consummately possible...;)

One of the best games I've ever played....but...I'm struggling to replay it. I think it's because it's only been a year and it's still fresh, so I can remember how to do things, where (most) of the best stuff is, and how things generally play out. The sense of wonder and discovery isn't there. So just kinda feels like going through the motions until I get to the bits of narrative that are different (doing a Durge run this time).

I think it's just me though, as countless are on their 3,4,5th playthrough.

Interesting to see it only peaked at 64k on Steam, which is pretty low - lower than even the chronically poor sales of DA:V. Their "engagement" figure was quite high at 2 million - so either it did massively more numbers on console, or the large majority are playing via Ubisoft Plus.

It's interesting the following this game generated when the original came out. I remember it well where it was like, nice looking graphics, obviously trying to get into the Diablo market, but otherwise, I thought it was rather tame. The enemies were mostly mediocre and unless you really enjoyed the time period, I thought it was rather bland.

I think my favorite wannabie back then was "Sacred". This game introduced mounts long before Diablo 4 ever did it.

Used to love Sacred! Mainly because it had hilarious bugs, like the character turning into a giant potion, or when you'd get on your mount still standing up.

There's just too many things against it - lack of decent games, very high entry fee, comfort, nausea for many - to make it worthwhile.

I thought PSVR might have helped increase 'awareness' and adoption, even created some decent games, but still limited. It's a shame, because the first time I played Elite Dangerous in VR - and HL:Alyx - was the equivalent for me of when I first played Doom, or getting a 3DFX card. It felt like the next step...but there's still too many hurdles.

The game sold like shit. 1.5 million sales for a Dragon Age franchise entry from one of the most renown RPG devs on the planet is a complete joke.

It's worse than that - 1.5m *engagements* likely meaning they're including those who played it on whatever streaming services it was on (including the 5 hour trial for the lower tier EA and Gamepass owners) Sales were likely <1m as Outlaws (released around the same time) barely broke that number and that was the 47th best selling game of 2024 - whereas Dragon Age was the 67th.

<1m sales over 3 months is dire for a game of that scale and cost. Also note it's been on sale twice on Steam (currently 45% off) and the stats show barely any change in player count, it didn't even move back into the top 100 sales chart, indicating even at a discount the rhetoric around the game is enough that people aren't bothering and waiting for a deeper sale.

Flying around space, the planet tech, clouds, walking around your ship - it's all awesome. It's exactly how I imaged Elite as a kid.

But man, it's bogged down by so much pointless sh*t it's unreal. The whole porsonal hanger thing where the lift goes down and brings your stuff up to be loaded? Just have it spawn in my ship inventory, FFS. The whole game is flooded with devs going "wouldn't it be cool if you could do X?" that sounds great on paper, without actually considering if it translates into enjoyable gaming mechanics.

Can someone explain to me why the gut hitting the ball wears a hat and the team throwing the ball doesn't? Seems backwards.

The batsman is facing a near 100mph ball bouncing (not always predictably) off the floor, and you have 0.5s to react....so they often get clonked on the noggin, so essential there.

Bowlers/fielders are usually further away and/or have more time to react so it's not really needed. Unless you're feilding at "silly mid off" (yes that's a real position) and you're basically standing very close to the batter, so they'll wear a helmet too in case it gets slogged in your direction.

Why? Still one of the best streaming services. Which would you recommend over it?

Same - I tried all the streaming services thanks to 30 day trials and me being tight, and the only one I've consistantly found to be the best is Spotify, especially as I have a couple of Sonos speakers at home.

I'm on a car forum filled with mainly 30+ year old parents and in a gaming sub-forum, more of them voted for Starfield as their GOTY than BG3. It's the same at work, I know a few casual gamers (again, 30+ parents) who really enjoy Starfield, they're certainly not ones to put reviews on websites.

I think outside of the more 'proper' gamers, Starfield is ticking a lot of boxes for the more casual players.

If you've not played GotG, please do - it's brilliant. Think of it more of an interactive movie (as the combat is pretty lousy) but the VA, brilliant banter (and there's loads of it) and generally engaging characters make for a gem of a game.

I've been disappointed with the performance on a 3080, but it does look good and have managed to tweak to to get 40-50fps @1440p.
However the main issues for me are the flicking lighting when moving quickly and the fact that about 20% of the time after a fast travel or reload, the game tanks to <10fps forcing a restart.

Have they fixed the shit netcode? It was unplayable for us in the UK. No matter who hosted it, the rubber-banding just ruined any enjoyment of it.

Does anybody know what we should expect from this?
The lack of trailers and other information is very helpful.

Who wants to bet that a modded game will look better.

I'll be amazed if it's anything more than a mild texture pack with a few GFX tweaks and support for modern display resolutions.

I'll probably still buy it, though, I adore the ME franchise....Andromeda aside.

The lag we get in BL3 co-op is terrible - horrible rubber banding which makes it unplayable for me and my mates here in the UK for whoever isn't hosting. Tried everything - seems (according to the forums) we're not alone, and the only thing is to play it across Hamachi. Apparently something to do with the SHiFT being NA/US based?

Really enjoyed this, far more than I expected. Glad it sold as well as it did - I actually only played it as it came on XBox Game Pass. Wonder if/how those downloads actually count against sales?

I play these types of games to pilot spaceships. I just don't care about being able to walk around as a character and I especially don't care about having first-person shooter gameplay bolted on. There's so many other games I could play if I wanted to play a FPS (and they will undoubtedly have better FPS gameplay). There are not, however, many games which I can pilot a spaceship.

I don't disagree about the content angle, but for me, after playing the mess that is Star Citizen, having space-legs adds an incredible feeling of scale and being there.

I loved walking up to my ship, opening the cargo bay doors, walking through it, into the seat and flying into space. Heck, I even loved firing into Hyperspace, leaving the seat, walking into the back of the ship and looking through the windows as the stars whizz past on my journey through the galaxy. It feels infinity more "real" and exactly what I imagined when playing Elite back in the 80s/90s.

So yeah, space legs is a huge, huge thing for me, it'll bring me right back into the game.

Agreed - I've played them all, and AC2 was my favourite, followed by Black Flag.

Like most, I feel like they've lost their way with Origins/Odyssey. It's not really an AC game any more, feels like like a generic, open-world combat game.

I mean, it's getting decent reviews, and it looks good. But it's on EGS, barely any wheel support, no FFB support and no VR support plus a few bugs.

One to pick up down the line once it's cheaper and the wheel support is better I think.
