VNV and Assemblage 23 are great.

Can I also recommend SITD, The Azoic, Clear Vision, Conjure One, Ivory Frequency, Lights of Euphoria, Neurotic Fish, Plastic, Pride and Fall, Project Pitchfork, Seabound, Steril, Sulphur, Velvet Acid Christ and Wolfsheim.
All bands prone to occasional dancefloor greatness.

Oh, and IrnBru is a great drink

w00t. Will be purchasing. It also seems like they'll be touring...

You should get Permanent by JD (which will set you back all of about $5) for a good overview. Tracks like Transmission, She's Lost Control or Atmosphere are (in my opinion) better than anything NO has ever done. NO up to '87 is fine, and then it all goes a bit rubbish. Never heard them live, so can't comment about that

LD stands for "Lethal Dose". LD50 is the amount of a material, given all at once, which causes the death of 50% (one half) of a group of test animals

Obviously IANAT (I Am Not A Toxicologist) so thanks for the info

Sounds like a pretty cool internship - if you guys dont wear those yellow suits like in Outbreak i`m gonna be real dissapointed

Enahs, not sure if its a UK thing then cos my A Level chemistry included Lambda as a symbol for the half life of an element. Wierd... It could be part of that whole "lies to children" thing in education...

Although, i`m wondering if the LD in "LD50" could stand for LambDa

(just kidding, i bow to your bachelors / masters.. interesting none the less tho)

on the subject of forums (which you guys kinda were) did anything come of that huge discussion about whether Blues should be subscription / donation based?
I remember the discussion, not sure I remember an answer.

ok, so i`ve uninstalled. I`m re-installing.
I notice that Steam didn`t take it upon itself to remove the 1.2 GB of files if left behind (HL, CS, DOD "cache files") - as some one said "I already have them installed!".
Steam is currently "updating platform" - it has been for about half an hour now.
On the plus side, ive done all the housework I was avoiding, cos i`ve had to wait for this thing to work its magic.
I was considering buying HL2 through this, but I think I'll just go traditional this time

I mena yeah, i`m sure the reason its not spritely is cos milions of people are trying to do what we are - probably with the same amount of success. I've actually managed to get it installed and registed, although none of the news, information, frieds spy or games appear to work.

Even if there had been a README or something that would say what it actually has to do to work, as opposed to obscure messages and LONG delays where nothing seems to be happening. I honestly wouldn`t have bothered with it, except , obviously, I want to play Half Life2, and wanted to get this out of the way (Steam is mandatory for HL2, right?)

It does seem like a pretty badly put-together application - always waiting for confirmation from some master server I think. That would at least explain all the lockups. I may give it a few days and try it then.

You`d have thought these simple problems would have been addressed in the BETA. I suppose we should be thankful that we can`t play Half Life 2 out of the box right now becuase Steam won't authenticate properly - this gives themsome time to sort out this mess.

Is it supposed to be sluggish, unresponsive and prone to crashing?
So far is used up an extra 1.17GB on my harddrive with its "SteamApps" and when i ask it to do anything like, oh, play counterstrike, it locks up.

What is this actually supposed to be used for?
I'm always nervous of applications that just sit for AGES and don't tell you what they're doing. I'd look at the documentation on their website, but, of course, its down.

Anyone else in this predicament, or just me?

You asked about any problems Blue, well, the passthru add that appeared when i navigated to the site showed me a blank page with a link to www.bluesnews.com - no ad there i`m afraid. IE6, XP, SP1.
Could just be me.

I`d quite happily donate to the running of the site, or indeed subscribe for access to the boards, or for no ads, or for a 5 minute heads-up on news stories (a la /.).

Delicatessen, Amelie, City of lost children, Nikita, La Reine Margot, Betty Blue...

I think, talking sheer numbers from the posts on this thread, the Americans make the worst movies

Just to add $0.02:

Movies that were over-advertised and kinda sucked:
Batman & Robin - "People ask if i did my own stunts, i say 'hell yeah, i walked from my trailer to the set'."

Blair Witch 2 - Book of Shadows - "i`m a pagan - lets get naked"

The Time Machine (remake 2002) - "Hi, i`m Jeremy Irons, you might remember me from . . . ."

Attack of the Clones (and yes, i know, i`m not a kid any more and looking at the franchise with the rose tinted specacles and the nostalgia etc, but every kid i`ve talked to about it still thinks that Anakin's love story was just painful to watch)

Tomb Raider - "so if this clock thingy lets you travel in time, can i go backwards about two hours?"

Scooby Doo - "Scariest. Cgi. Dog. Ever"

and many many more... i think the pattern is that sequels, on the whole (godfather 2 notwithstanding etc etc) are usually a bit rubbish - and video game movies kinda suck too (we've already had moral kombat a few times here - anyone see Super Mario Bros, or Street Fighter?? sheesh) nad live action cartoon movies kinda suck too (rocky and bullwinkle anyone??) unless they star Bob Hoskins sans plumber outfit.

as for the matrix reloaded, i got the whole masculine / feminine split of archetect and oracle and all that, and yeah ok, so she talks with cookies and he uses big words and logic and stuff (hell, lets talk about the phallic nature of ones and zeros) and thats all well and good, but what i loved about the first one was that the philosophy presented therin was acccessable to all and got people talking about the nature of reality, truth and stuff... this one just seemed to have a lot of people going "huh?" which is not necessarily a good Thing. I still liked it though, although i hope the third one makes the second one better, if you get me.

Reading the articles i`m a bit concearned that "they can't play the game through." I realise that Valve are keeping the levels under wraps and stuff, but that they only started on them in september last year makes me kind of anxious for a 30th spetember release...

guess we'll just have to wait

>You might not believe a "journalist" would cut something up as bad as I just did...

believe it? Hell, I'd expect it. You ever see someone in real life being interviewed on camera. They're all "err, um" all the time - bad TV. They prune all that out to get the "spirit" of what they were trying to say. Sometimes whole sentences are "pruned". I know what your saying (i think i may have implied as such) and while i think you're example was slightly more extreem than what I intended, sure... taken any words you can make me say anything.

However, if you break from the spirit of my argument, thats when you end up in courts with a hefty lawsuit on your ass and one of those quarter column inch retractions hidden by the liposuction commercials.

anyways, some folks don`t like the film, some do - and theres lots of reasons on both sides. id be surprised if an issue like gun control didnt provoke this reaction to be honest. I'm pretty sure though that we can all get behind the idea that columbine was a tragic event, and something we could well do with remembering....
