This whole situation just doesn't feel right. I'm as anxious for HL2 as anyone, but the only reason I can think that Vivendi waited for the Release Candidate to be delivered was so they could ensure that the game was done before they dropped this suit.
It's been said before (depending on how many conspiracy theories you believe) that one of the main reasons HL2 was delayed so much was because when Steam dropped last September it was a huge mess and they needed the realease of Condition Zero to test how Steam would perform with a significant drop.
Now, if I were Vivendi and saw this happen I`d be a little pissed.
So, it seems like they've waited till HL2 was done, then dropped this lawsuit - which kind of seems like cutting your nose to spite your face.
I mean, Vivendi aren't having the best year so far, and need HL2 to keep the shareholders happy. Valve aren't having the best year either, and really have to release it before all their PR staff quit in a blaze of mismanaged carnage (which is not to say they haven't already).
All of this wrangling though just seems to be the worst sort of business - albeit at an epic scale - lots of "this is mine and that's yours."
I really, really hope this doesn't get stuck in litigation for months and months, especially when I, like so many others, have 2.5 GB of HL2 on my machine - poised; promising so much...

I believe you can archive your Steam Installed Games by burning the contents of the SteamApps folder from your Steam Install Directory.

Does that mean you'll have to "fight" a mirror image of yourself in this one?
Looking forward to this, Sands of Time was a blast and the videos for this look very cool.

contradiction in terms, by the way, given Scotland's colonization from the british

Um, Scotland is in Britain. You could argue that we were colonised by the English, but in truth it was more of a gentleman's agreement so we could gang up and colonise other, warmer places.

Cool news about the demos features - think they're shooting for the machinima fans?
Source seems to be so customisable, I think it's great they're thinking of the mod community (which, really, led to HL1's longevity) - my only worry is how complicated it will be to actually do anything! If i make a new texture do I have to add it to an attribute libray, give it sound properties, physics propreties, bullet shrapnel properties?? From what I've seen it's all cool and customisable, but kinda scares the bejesus out of me too.
Um, ok, that got wierd and OT.

Kinda cutting your nose to spite your face isn't it...

id Software have announced that McDonalds(TM) are the official hamburger partners for Doom3. "You won't believe how scary this game is while eating a Happy Meal," said Ronald McDonald.
For a limited period, all Happy Meals(TM) will come with a free(sic) cheap plastic mancubus.

I was rather surprised, as he's been with Malm since 1988 or 89, I thought...

Thanks - not so good though. Must keep an eye out for the results of the case.

"it means Reznor fired his manager and has a lawsuit pending against him"

Intersting. Do you have a source for this? (not that I doubt you, just interested!).
From his post, what Trent wanted to do with the soundtrack sounded pretty cool, and it's a shame I guess.
Still, I liked the work Vrenna did on Alice, so will just have to wait and see how it works out.

Oh, and what does the number of CDs you own have to do with anything? Quality, not quantity IMO

i[So, here we are with a history of blurbs with little "official" news]
That's pretty much the problem. I mean, i'm not going to buy a game on the strength of a soundtrack, but it's a nice bonus if the soundtrack works, and is by an artist you like. The quake1 soundtrack was great IMO, not cos it was Reznor, but cos it was perfect for the game. That was mainly why I was looking forward to Reznor doing the soundtrack here - cos he nailed it (no pun intended).
That being said, Tweaker did a great job on the Alice soundtrack, and this is, as many have said, just the theme music.
At the end of the day,you can turn it off, or replace it (Nefilim's i[Zoon] was always a favourite for Quake)

Yeah, you'd have thought the marketing would have mentioned it. The doom3 page on amazon.com mentions reznor too.
Guess I'll have to wait and look at the liner notes

Did anyone else download the "theme song" on the website?
Is that still done by Tool?
Has there been any noise lately about whether Trent Reznor's material is going to be included?
Just interested, cos the Quake score was fantastic.

Wow, all the hype over the last few days has actually been for a reason.
This is great - really looking forward to the game, and from all the games spawned from its engine. Congrats to the id team - lets hope its a good one.

Isn't the idea that the machines need zion in order to keep track of any aberations within the matrix? They need a band of freedom fighters in order to maintain the control on the rest of the population, as the One will be consumed by the matrix on each itteration, re-making the matrix each time. So it seems logical that the machines built Zion, and know exactly where it is.
Zion is, therefore, a matrix within a matrix, although more metaphorically - it is a controlled reality as much as the matrix is.

Just sayin..
