Speaking as a former T1/T2 devver, if anyone can do it right, the Garage Games crew can.

Just don't let Sierra anywhere near it :-)

Yeah, Sierra sure did a good job with the Tribes franchise when it was made by Dynamix...put an incompetent boob in charge, rushed it out the door, then shut down the company to cover for their incompetence.

Sierra = Idiots
Vivendi = Bigger idiots
NBC = Even bigger idiots if they buy Sierra

Does anyone have any sales numbers for Planetside so far? I have heard sales are somewhat disappointing, but I dont' have hard numbers.

What do you mean, nearly, Creole :-) It was his half-baked design ideas that killed Tribes 2. That, and his inability to meet a schedule. And his utter weaselness, too. This is a move that smells of desperation. Or, someone needs fresh underwear.

Sierra's had the license for years, and now they start doing something with it...but I'm sure it will turn out like shit, like everything else they touch--a reverse Midas, if you will

I hate to say it, but this sounds just like the launch for Tribes2 all over again...and not in a good way...and who was in charge of both of these projects???

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

The morning of what promises to be a great naval battle, a pirate captain is getting dressed when word comes down from the crow's nest that a British man-o'-war has been sighted. The pirate captain ponders this for a moment and says, "Cabin boy, bring me my red shirt."

"Why the red shirt, sir," the cabin boy asks.

"In case I am wounded, the men will not see the blood and panic," the captain explains.

As the captain is putting on his red shirt, word comes down from the crow's nest that ten British man-o'-wars have been sighted. The pirate captain ponders this for a moment and says, "Cabin boy, bring me my brown pants."

I misspoke (misspelled?). I should have written "flying wing," as in B-2 Stealth bomber, not "fixed wing."

If I remember correctly, the Germans had completed more research on flying wing aircraft, having functional prototypes towards the end of the war (the ultimate plan was to have a long-range bomber that could drop a nuke on New York City). After the war, there were plans on the Allied/American side to make passenger flying wing aircraft, but nothing ever came of that.

See, I know my history

True, most of these vehicles either existed or prototypes existed towards the end of the war--both sides were experimenting with fixed-wing bombers, for example. Now, the jetpack, that's just silly I'd always thought that BF42 was an homage to the Tribes series and, ultimately, what Tribes 2 *should* have been. Now it looks like they're ripping it off completely Hey, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Me, I can't wait to get a hold of that German anti-aircraft tank--someone out there who watches the History Channel more than I do can probably tell me what that is.

Yes, Dave Georgeson, the man primarily responsible for making Tribes 2 the mess it was upon release, is in charge of Planetside. It is my understanding that he wanted to make T2 pay-for-play, but got shot down by SiEnron execs (only smart thing they ever did).

Georgeson's presence on Planetside is exactly why my hopes for the game are slim and none, and Slim is on the bus out of town.

Speaking as an ex-Sierra employee, I have a) high hopes that Thrax Panda, who was involved in the original T1, can make a good product and b) every belief that it will turn to crap like everything else Sierra touches.

Just another good reason to hate the French

Let's see, what do Tribes 2 and Planetside have in common?

Oh, yeah, Dave Georgeson, The Man Who Killed The Tribes Franchise.

This bodes not well for Planetside.

A Dave Georgeson game late? No! Well, it may be late, but there would be NO WAY it would be riddled with bugs and virutally unplayable, right? Right?

As someone who has had the misfortune to work with Georgeson in the past, I have grave misgivings about this project. I thought Planetside sounded good, but once I learned that "QIX" was onboard...well, that was the kiss of death.

I mean, seriously, can anyone name a single project he's worked on that was good? Or made any money?

Hey, it's Sony's cash, they can throw it away any way they like I guess. I just won't be giving them any on this game.
