Not much diff then Steam http://www.valvesoftware.com/privacy.html

Yeah, I always figured Steam did the exact same thing.

Except Valve does in fact let the user opt out of transmitting data when using Steam. In fact, according to Valve, it is an 'opt-in' feature rather than an 'opt-out' feature, and those that are selected (at random) are given the choice if they want to pass along any hardware information.

Steam information found here: Click here.

And while the ToS does leave room for Valve to change the way they handle data collection, right now they are not screwing with the user base, and I would assume they won't in the foreseeable future. So yeah, this appears to be another strike against EA's Origin service.

Dood. Thats just the surveys. "While Valve collects personally identifiable information on a voluntary basis, for certain products and online sites, Valve's collection of personally identifiable information may be a requirement for access to the product or site. Personally identifiable information will be processed and stored by Valve in databases situated in the United States."

Yeah, I am just not so sure why this is a big deal. You agree to almost the same thing with almost any online service like them, and even on websites. This is just typical legal mumbo jumbo to cover their bases.

This is quite true. I too must confess my high admiration and appreciation of id Software's readiness to encourage modifications of their software in the early years of the industry.

So I take it everyone bitching never plays single player Steam games or plays them in offline mode online?

How is this any different?

Uhmm, I have the option to play my SP games in offline mode? Different enough for me.

Yeah. Insta-fail in my book as well. I am now looking more forward to Grim Dawn (not that I wasn't looking forward to it in the first place). This news did make my deciding factor in not buying the game.

I wish they would at least offer a never online version at least. I can give two ***** about playing this game online. I just like a good SP hack n slash.

Well I dunno if its coincidence or not. I was getting constant crashes in games and iTunes. I updated to these drivers and am yet to have a crash again. =\

I would pay for a remake of the original in the new engine. It has to be the original stuff though, with just the new bells and whistles as flourishes.

I wish Raven would do a proper sequel to Soldier of Fortune II

The body damage system they did with that game is still top of it's class.

But I'd rather have them make another Jedi Knight/Academy game.

What you said.

Personally I don't get what all the fuss is about besides people wanting to get their panties in a bunch over anything and everything that doesn't go 100% their way.

Were it not for the fact that Origin is only EA's stuff, in some ways I prefer it to Steam, and mostly for reasons the publishers don't like. For most EA games anymore, it doesn't matter where I buy it from - I look for the best sale humanly possible and I put the code into Origin. (Steam doesn't always give you a CD key, but at least their ubiquitousness makes it such that, should they have the best price, it doesn't matter too much if the game is only on Steam and not on Steam/Origin.)

I'm not getting the panties in a bunch either. Don't want the EA exclusive extras on a title THEY publish? Buy it from Steam end of problem.

It also always amazes me how up in arms people get about DRM here, yet praise Steam which is laden with DRM of it's own like it's the best thing since sliced bread. Gamers are fickle.

Personally I flip out on DRM thats intrusive. I don't find Steams DRM "Intrusive". I do find other games that insist on still having their DRM in place on top of steams DRM very annoying though.
