On another note. Things here are starting to turn normal again. Most people are still wearing masks. But the temperature checks are starting to die down. I actually saw my first delivery person come to my door today finally. It's been outside deliveries since sometime beginning of Feb. Our company has stopped asking for daily health checks (just asking us how we feel, name, work id, back in town or not). Office here has also been at full capacity probably since beginning of March?

Just glad I can get deliveries to the door again haha. Lazy mode engage.

So are you back in the office, or still WFH?

Yeah I actually started going back into the office Feb 10th. Considering secrecy is important for our company I couldn't work from home.

Haha, the timing there.

Yeah, I can't remember which menu in the options but it is definitely in there for the tutorials.

-The popup tutorials that pause the game, I think I got to shoot the gun about 5 times in the opening level and there were just as many pop ups and pauses. It seems to do this throughout the game. Please just let me shoot things in my Doom game lol (is this some mobile app game design creeping in?)

The popups were definitely an insane amount. Though you should know you can disable them in the options if you are so inclined. I went through them first round so far just to make sure I knew I was getting all the info. IF I go through again I will turn them off.

Ok, let's re-iterate the groundbreaking immersion offered by sitting in a computer chair, using a mouse and keyboard, and viewing the digital world through a 2D screen.

If you think THAT'S immersive, well guess what, VR is gonna knock your socks off!

HAH! I got a kick out of that one.

How can you have actually tried VR and not understand that handheld controllers are a part of the package for a reason? Keyboard and mouse can't track your hand motions in 3D space, it's a bunch of buttons and a 2D pointer...

Depends on the game doesn't it? If it's just an FPS shooter like Serious Sam, or Alien Isolation, Resident Evil, those are all primarily controller based and could technically work with a Mouse and Keyboard. Seated VR experiences.

My main issue with VR is that you are standing there and you have to teleport around. It removes a lot of the freedom you would have with a traditional game. Seems like it would be a lot of stop-and-go gameplay and it would be easy to overwhelm the player if they had enemies rushing at you. Not to mention the fact that it takes you out of the immersion because you're not actually walking.

This is a misconception these days. So this depends entirely on the developer and the game and the level of motion sickness one can incur.

There are a lot of games where you can sit and play with an xbox controller if you want or the regular vr controllers. You aren't always forced to stand. That's just up to the game / dev.

Resident Evil 7 had full normal movement if you wanted it and you could sit.

Serious Sam VR games (1,2,3) all let you sit and play like a normal game with a controller.

There are more I am sure of it.

A lot of people who have barely played any good VR games are so negative about this being in VR.

If it can do what HL & HL2 did for the FPS so many years ago for VR... then it's going to be incredible, because VR when done right is mindblowing. Hope it lives up to it - I did hear that the campaign is about 15-16 hours - so that's something, all the flat/2D video footage I've seen looks great.

Always been a 3D (cyan / red, shutter glases, etc) fan. I remember playing HL1 with both types and being amazed. It felt so much like I was in the world and everything seemed so much bigger.

Now... with Alyx... I am gonna be in there more so. I am stoked.

From what I've read and heard over the years, the cheap earloop masks are much more effective at preventing a sick person from spreading it than a healthy person from contracting it.

This is really the point in China anyway. There are so many people always so close together... it's good they wear masks here. Purely to help prevent spreading. You don't know you're sick and you could spread it.

Thanks for the update Wolfen . My tourism-dependent city had an infected couple come through a week or so ago, so waiting for the other shoe to drop this week. If we get an outbreak, I'll definitely work from home for several weeks and keep the kids home. Probably go shopping at midnight to avoid crowds.

Very good idea. Once it gets out as we have seen with Italy and obviously China it can quickly get out of hand. Best to be cautious.

Wash your hands often, disinfect things, n95's are good for protecting yourself and others while a standard surgical mask helps protect others from you. N95's if properly worn and sealed are only really bearable for about half an hour though.
Wear clear, cheap safety glasses, Dont touch your face and Don’t touch the outside of the mask as it has all the things on it you were trying to avoid.

This too! Safety glasses obviously to avoid those sneeze and cough particles that make the extra distance.

COVID-19 My Shanghai update. I don't want to debate about numbers as there is obviously room for that when it comes to the honesty of the CCP historically.

What I do want to talk about or tell you is yet another update from my view in Shanghai. Mainly because it's fairly significant.

The roads are practically back to normal with the amount of people. Though this could be attributed to those returning to work also taking their cars now rather than the public transportation. A Chinese co-worker had mentioned there was a lot of talk on the social media in China about that. For obvious reasons (and if not, to avoid crowded virus infested areas).

Some of the shops and bars in my area are being given the go ahead to either re-open or be allowed to deliver again (these were non-essentials places, vape shops, bars, electronics stores, etc)

Most of the people are back in my office aside from those still stranded outside the country or in other provinces, cities. Our company still has not a single report of the virus out of the close to 2000 people world wide. A large chunk of that being here in China in a few different studios and provinces.

Still doing temp checks and wearing masks. Even the re-opening of my favorite bar is going to be requiring these things. That's the one stipulation they were given.

I can't wait till this all blows over. I mean it sounds like a first world problem but I really do miss getting my goods and foods delivered to my door and not having to have my temp checked every time I step outside for a deadly smoke and come back in.

Schools however are still closed but in Shanghai if I didn't mention before is on mandatory online schooling now. That either starts this week or beginning of March and is of course not been given an official end date. Makes sense. Want to wait till it's all truly blown over. Because while the numbers indicate a flattening out and even a bit of decline in new cases even in Hubei we just don't know what's going to happen. It could re-surge for all we know. Especially with all this intermingling going on now. That's got me more nervous really. The risk goes up as the quarantines start ending and more people are around.

Anyway, that's it. Time to go make coffee and head over to reddit now that I am caught up on blues this morning.
