Thanks for the Amazon link, that is a good deal. I am wondering a bit like PHJF though -- has this been patched up enough for it to be worthwhile?
I did play the demo quite awhile back and my impression of it was that it was a buggy mess. At the time quite a few people were saying just wait for it to be patched and it'll get better, but back then it certainly didn't seem worth full price.

While I do think this was and is basically a publicity stunt why do people keep bringing up comparisons to WWII?

Seems fairly obvious that the big difference is that WWII ended 65 years ago, while service members are dying TODAY to the Taliban.
It makes a big difference in how they need to handle things like this and I'm surprised it even needs to be spelled out.

Sad to see these guys are having problems, I bought AI War awhile back and always have a good time whenever I load it up. (though it takes way more time than I really have..)
Seems like they burned themselves a bit by releasing an expansion totally for charity and committing to version 4.0 for free to existing users. I'm all for giving but not when you are that close to going under altogether.

I hope they can work their way out of this, once they get the new expansion on Steam I'll be buying it too. (more for my backlog!)

Really sorry to hear that Blue -- my father has been going through tough times with heart problems lately but still I imagine it is only a small amount of what you must be going through.
Take all the time you need.

Anyone give this or the first one a try and have thoughts on it?

I've got a mighty backlog of games to play but will probably grab the demo and see how it is.

This game was released a year ago, so yeah this is basically a fire sale which (some?) seem to be forgetting. A "huge success" is relative because they've ALREADY sold a ton of copies (at regular price) which means they can accept a penny and still be happy with it.

Not sure how someone could come to the conclusion that this proves games are overpriced. Somehow I doubt they would have initially released the game at this price.

That said it is good PR for them and I'm glad it was a success, hopefully we'll see other developers follow suit on their older games.

Thanks, will be buying it this weekend for sure. Might take awhile until I can get around to play them but they sound good from the comments here. Will look into getting Contracts once I play through the first two.

Any comments on Hitman series for $10?
I already have an incredible backlog of games to play but don't mind adding a series to my collection for $10 if they are worth playing.

The game itself is decent for the price ($20), but it is really an online coop game. Single player is only Solo which gets boring real fast, no bot teammates or anything just you vs the "specimens" (basically zombies) on random maps.
The game only shipped with 5 or so maps but the community has already released a bunch which will certainly extend the playtime on this.

If you are looking for some fun online coop then worth a look anyways.

I remember a year or two ago thinking "How are they STILL selling this at full price ($55)?" and now almost 3 years after release they still are?
After playing the demo back then I thought the game was interesting, but not worth $55, and that hasn't changed in all that time.

I get the fact that niche products typically keep prices high to offset their few sales but at this point it's out of principle that I'd never buy the game at that price.

I saw this game the other day on Steam and was thinking of picking it up. Anyone know if this patch will show up on Steam eventually? (or could I use it regardless?) I'd hate to miss a patch because of legal/licensing issues between these companies.

I don't play EQ2 but can't say I agree with Pumas just going by the responses on the forums there. These characters were left with many high level items/money which should have been stripped of them going to a live server.
This is a huge no-no in an MMO as the whole system is reliant on everyone being on "even ground". Maybe those items were obtained in normal fashion, or maybe they were dropped from level 1 rats on the test server.. who knows. Therein lies the problem, on a live server you know.

I'm sure the testers put in their time, but I would have hoped they were told up front that their test characters would never be on a live server, so they should have a separate account/characters for live if they want that.

So one Developer says "Sadly enough, the allegation regarding unlawfully obtained blueprints are, in my case, true." and yet the CEO says "non-negotiable penalty of employment termination upon conviction of such acts".
So is this guy gone or what? I'd say it's a serious breach in ethics/conduct to have obtained those illegally. (BPOs are VERY valuable in Eve)

I quit Eve recently so ultimately I could care less what happens there, but devs taking advantage of their position in a live MMO is bad news anyway you look at it.

Yeah I played Eve-Online for a few months (3 or so) and it is fun for awhile, but like basically all MMOs to play past the entry point you need to start putting in tons of time every day. (bought my own battleship and realized anything past that was beyond reasonable to reach)
I enjoy games too much to spend all my time on one, so doubtful I'll ever go back.

Good to hear the positive beta impressions -- I loved Total Annihilation back in the day and was hoping this would turn out good when I heard about it.
Anyone know if the Commanders(?) have the equivalent of the old D-Gun from TA? Always got a kick out of that.

Will definitely be checking the demo out tomorrow.

Snow? Mar 6, 2003, 10:37

I know I'll come off as one of those heavy snow area snobs, but cmon, the NJ/NYC area gets like what, 18 in. of snow on average for the whole winter? I'm surprised you guys need a snow brush for your car much less a snowblower.
I suppose every 10-20 years you get a "heavy" snowfall, but unless you get 100+ inches of snow a year, I think you can get by with getting a little exercise. (the two or three days for the winter that you get enough snow to worry about)

All the major grocery stores around here take cans/bottles, so I don't see why anyone would just throw them away.. you already pay for the deposit when you buy the item, so you might as well get your own money back. Guess people in general are just lazy. (surprising when money is involved though!)
