I reinstalled 1.2, reinstalled 1.31 and installed 1.4. Took ~2 minutes and worked perfectly. Heard people who had problem went through this procedure and got it up and running.

Tried it on a server just now, seems like there was some really cool new features implemented, not just bugg-fixes, but new weapons and added functionality...

mmmmm, i've just woken up and been looking at this picture:

http://newtechnix.com/Webmasters/supertony/Images/News_PC_Half-Life_2_6.jpg

Doesn't that picture seem to be fiddled with? Look at that gun, it looks like a flat picture more than a 3d model...

Thought about the exact same thing when I looked at the screen. Some parts seems to be extremely high-res (soldiers head par example), while other parts are utterly-flat (gun etc).

If correct, what kind of 'double-standard', graphics wise, is that?

I think Merciless (and other mods like it) definately are worth sacrificing if it means a cheat-free environment. Its still just 'extra' stuff that noone really needs, like improved crosshairs/splashscreens etc. Too bad for the teams who has put alot of work into their mod, guess they will have to go client/server-side like DC?

Glad improvements are beeing made in BF, two new weapons and a Linux-server is helluva good news to me!

~500 servers and ~4000 players online is 'pretty popular' in my opinion. No idea how you only spotted 3 servers.

And to the earlier post about BF1942 engine, I think it handles the mod really nice. I never experience any net-problems in BF, check your connection?

The DC-devs commented the CNN-article in a forum:

"While its WAY to early to see if DC will every make it to the shelves, we promise to do everything in our power to do the right thing for the gamers, My goal would be to do what CS has done, free download, pay for the box.

At this point, I really wouldn't worry about anything, for now you will get lots of free toys to play with for the forseable future.

And yes, it looks like DC .3 will be out sometime next week if there are no major bugs..

Ok, np.

Essence is: There will be an editor realesed quite soon, hopefully this will end the "fuck EA/DICE for keeping a game that we love alive"-shit.

Well, if you read my previous post, I mentioned that the site was avaiable a week or so ago. But since it wasn't polished (or the editor wasn't done), it was withdrawn.

Think the Battlecraft-project was initiated by a fan, but the EA had logos and stuff in there (along with website-design etc), so I guess they bought the editor/hired the maker. As long as it means a good tool for the community, I don't care who started the development (the website made it clear that this tool would be available for everyone soon).

Chill out. The level-editor is on its way, and this expansion-pack is at least 6 months away - EA hasn't even declared it officially yet.

The editor will be found here: http://www.battlecraft42.com

The site was actually available a week ago or so, but I guess they decided to keep it secret until all features were done. So just chill, damn.

Is there only cheap-asses aged < 15 at this forum? Certainly looks like it. I for one definately welcomes a new ex-pack around fall/winter, this game got me by the balls. And NO, I don't consider 2-4$/map a ripoff. (Not counting armies/vehicles etc.)

Yup, perfectly fluid on my comp too. Running Audigy with highest sound settings and hardware accel. turned on...

Seems like they have put down the planes armour to something in between 1.2 and 1.3 to, will make the gameplay more balanced again. Planes were _evil_ in 1.3...

You can find a free download link here (one of the best community-sites for BF1942 by the way);

"LOL. That was a good one.

If you've ever dealt w/EA or known anyone who has before on any projects, you have no idea how ludicrous that prospect sounds."

Actually, with the money DICE got from this deal, they are supposed to develop 3 games on their own - that EA later will publish/distribute. That means even more control over the production than with BF1942 (where DICE owned the IP, but EA funded the development). It's a bigger risk too, but if the games are successful, more money will stay with the developer (DICE) rather than slip through to the publisher (EA).

Unmaker:

Well, I see your point. If you are willing to skip one of the best games ever made, just out of some "ship when done"-principle, be my guest. I am just pointing out that I have had endless hours of fun for my silly 30$. If I can keep up the steam with a 18$-expansion (3$/map), I don't see it as EA is ripping me off - I am ripping _them_ off.

Any other entertainment would have costed me tens or hundreds amout of that sum. And that is a damn fact. So swallow the anger/pride, try the game in all it's v1.3-glory and start enjoying yourself...

"Re: Worst Text in a game. Ever Feb 4, 17:28 Unmaker

What's this? Someone else that doesn't care for BF1942? I thought it was just me and everyone I know personally. As far as I'm concerned EA wrote the book on "How to make a marketable game without having to concern yourself with quality." Come on, is decent client-side prediction too much to ask for? "

Have you actually tried the game?

The network is super since the december v1.2-patch was realesed. And there sure is client-side prediction. With yesterdays 1.3-patch things got even moore smooth, but that is just icing on the cake as far as the netcode does. Other updates had a much more obvious impact...

Do yourself a favour and try this baby out, have not had as much fun since Quake came out back in '96...

And by the way - read the devs already got milestones written in stone for patches up to 1.7, so there will support for BF1942 for a looong time to come...

Gameplay is really starting to shine. The hand-to-hand combat is really nice now, the somewhat jerky close-combat feeling in the early days is definately gone. The new sounds/models really fit too, all while FPS/Loadtimes/Mapchanges-time have improven quite a bit...

The netcode really seems polished too, didn't come across any jerkiness or lag durig a whole clanwar just now...

Grab this baby as fast as you can, sweet as hell!

You dont need to have your cd in the drive. Just make an image with a tool like CloneCD, and then mount the image in a virtual-cd program like Deamon Tools. Works great and speeds up the process too, since the damn cd doesn't have to spin up...

It works, just tried it out on one of the 1.3-servers out there. Some really neat new features in there; improving loading-speeds, new models/sounds, no cd-check between maps, solved past Live-issues etc...

Not sure if it is a final patch though, might aswell be a beta - although it wouldn't make much sence posting it on the official TW-site...
