I hope this one isn't as unfortunately boring as 2 was.

Yes, I tried the earlier demo and was blown away by the visuals (though I'm sure the drugs played a big part in that :P).

I've seen a lot of comments in various places about steep system requirements but I ran the whole game through at 30-40 fps with:

P3 700
384mb pc100
gf4 ti4200
sb audigy gamer
win 98

I ran it at 1024x768 with specular, shadows and
decals off and textures at high-res. I didn't find it ugly at all! None of the graphical features are very impressive on their own (though this is the first game I've played that I can remember with bump-mapping), but together they do a good job.

I, too, found the gameplay very repetitive but despite all of my grumblings (especially during the damn library levels) I wanted to keep playing. Taking on hordes of monsters with a shotgun can be very satisfying in the same way that Serious Sam was fun (IMO). I'm thinking that Doom III will probably feel very similar to Halo's indoor levels.

I'm going to be in Rome for school next year and decided to do some reading up on it before going. Here's a good website with a specific section on Italian drivers:

They basically took the name of a Half-Life mod ( www.planethalflife.net/hostileintent ) to use for their game (which isn't related to the mod). I have no doubt that they were aware that the name was being used already and just figured they could use it because they're applying it to a commercial product. Maybe it's because I've been a member of the HI mod community for almost 3 years, but I find that incredibly lame.

He's probably referring to NPCs that are important to the plot.

Well, I _hope_ he is.

After the patch I still had problems with CMR3 and my MSFF Wheel. There's absolutely no force-effects aside from when I brush up against the edge of the road. I'm not the only one with this problem as just about everyone on the Codemasters forums have the same issue. Hopefully this won't be the case with Indy Car Series (though I'll probably skip it anyway).

Yes, I'm using XP and this is the only game to give me problems, aside from NFS: High Stakes, which I tried out about two years ago. CMR2 worked great. *shrugs*

EDIT: Actually, I was using windows 98 when I tried HS.

Well, my MSFF wheel still doesn't work with the game.

I've found that driving without using my wheel gives a giant framerate boost. Kinda disappointing.

Well, I'm a tad annoyed. The force-feedback doesn't work properly (MSFF wheel) and it runs very poorly on my machine.

1800+ XP @ 1643mhz
GF4-ti4200 128mb
768mb pc2700 ram

*shrugs*

EDIT: The low framerate has to do with the force-feedback, apparently. I get force-effects on the sides of the road, but not on the road itself. As soon as I touch the sides my framerate halves.

It was possible to see your feet in Hitman 2, also :). Walking through the church at the beginning and looking down to see your shoes making the echoing footstep sounds was really immersive. OFP also allows you to see most of your body by looking around. For awhile now it has bugged me that games don't include this. I'm glad that another company is catching on.

Also, the engine has been modified to support real-time lighting and shadows as well as a bunch of other features.

(whoops, you mentioned it first)

Well, at least by having a lot of CDs we can be sure there'll be a lot of unique content. More content generally leads to a richer and more satisfying experience, like with Mafia, for example.

Haha, that was probably World's Wildest Police videos. The host tries so hard to inject excitement into every video clip :).

Anyhow, the voice acting and character movement seems pretty uninspiring right now. I think the way to handle scripted sequences is with the seriousness shown in Mafia. It really makes the experience more engaging.
