Instead of using one or two specific time servers, why not use several rotating ones, which are unlikely to be all down at any given time? Even better, how about being able to set a pool of time servers on the same continent as your location?

http://www.pool.ntp.org/

The pool.ntp.org project is a big virtual cluster of timeservers striving to provide reliable easy to use NTP service for millions of clients without putting a strain on the big popular timeservers.

It would have been more of a tribute if the by-line had mentioned his voice work for the seminal (pun intended) Captain Pugwash.

From the article:

Hawkins' achievements included doing all the voices for "Captain Pugwash," a pirate cartoon that ran from 1957 to 1966 and for the later "Sir Prancelot."

Here's a story from last year...

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/20/news_6127866.html

But Ars Technica shredded it for not being really a gaming-related fatality:

Gaming didn't cause that child's death, neglect did. If the couple went out to to a baseball game and the child died, would we be seeing stories about it in the sports section?

That's interesting... Japanese Unicode looks alright in the editor, but it's messed up in the actual thread. But if you go to edit the message, it shows up properly again. Go figure.

Why not try booting up with a Linux distro that boots from a CD, mount the HD and then delete the files then?

Or am I missing something here?

But Nintendo is well known for gimmicks.

There's your canonical definition of a Nintendo gimmick.

Umm...yeah it was. At least, it was here in Canada. I used to have one when I was a collector and there was no one's name but Nintendo's on it. Who's brand was on it when you had it?

Well, if you have any faith in Wikipedia any more, here's what it says about it:

The Power Glove is a controller accessory for the Nintendo Entertainment System designed by Abrams/Gentile Entertainment, made by Mattel in the United States and PAX in Japan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Glove

It doesn't say anything about special manufacturing arrangements in Canada, but perhaps someone has yet to step forward and add that detail to the article.

Ummm, you guys DID read the article before posting, right?

Last two paragraphs:

For the record, The Register must note that the ubermeister of Wikipedia appears to be alive and well

The "news" of his death consisted of a random edit to his own, particularly fulsome entry on the encyclopedia he helped create.

Other than what I assume is a typo in the album's release date (2025 instead of 2005) I don't get what is special about the link. Anybody care to clue me in?

Well for one thing, that probably isn't a typo. But we may never know...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Democracy

According to a March 2005 New York Times article [1], production costs for the album have reached $13 million, probably the most expensive recording ever.

...

In December 2005, Amazon.com officially put up a listing for an album titled "Welcome to the Jungle". No additional information was provided except for the price being marked at $21.49 and a slated release date of December 31, 2025. There was speculation that Amazon may have mistakenly marked the possible "Greatest Hits II" or "Chinese Democracy" as "Welcome to the Jungle". Now there is a page at Amazon.com for Chinese Democracy.

The Channel could not be added. The data type is not supported

WTFG Sony!

Well, let's see:

http://www.playstation.com/manual/psp/rss/en/what.html

"The PSP(TM) system's RSS Channel feature uses RSS (Really Simple Syndication) 2.0 technology."

Now let's take a look at the Bluesnews RSS feed (news_1_0.rdf):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<rdf:RDF
xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"
xmlns="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/"
xmlns:taxo="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/taxonomy/"
xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"
xmlns:syn="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/syndication/"
xmlns:admin="http://webns.net/mvcb/"
>
...

So Blue's RSS feed is in RSS 1.0 format (also called RDF), not RSS 2.0 which is what the Sony firmware is expecting...

Differences between RDF and RSS 2.0:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/04/04/xmlfiles/

A quick search shows some RSS 2.0 -> RDF converters, but not the reverse.

How did this differ from standard CTF? Just curious as I never played it.

"The custom weapons for TW include a faster shotgun, a remodeled double-barrel shotgun, a laser rifle, a weaker Rocket Launcher, and a sniper rifle. The custom runes include Vampire, Protection, Cloaking, and Living Armor."

We have reached a new era of gaming news, when it includes vocabulary like "confuted".

Who do these people think they are writing to?

Perhaps people who own dictionaries?

Instead, how about fretting over the completely disgusting and utterly senseless waste of money?

Whoa, for a moment I thought you were talking about people buying gaming consoles off eBay...

I guess it depends on whether you think it's more fun to create something or destroy something.

Or whether you think it's fun to put people's noses out of joint, for absolutely no reason at all.
