This thread is one of the best I've ever read, honestly.

The shotgun is still nearly useless (in MP), the lack of maps is still a problem and the MP is mainly about one weapon and one weapon only....the RL.

Hey, that sounds JUST like playing original Quake to me!

This game really does need a patch to make it not suck. I played it for a couple levels, realized that it was just EXACTLY the same thing over and over with -bad- metal playing in the background whenever badguys SHOULD be fighting you (because the battles aren't constant, they need to respawn guys all the time) and that it really didn't do anything well at all, besides being a boring, boring shooter.

They might as well have just made it into a Beachhead style game, I think that would've been more fun.

Silent Storm really WAS the game that UFO Aftermath should've been, but in dubya dubya too.

I pray that we can get the developers of Silent Storm to just keep cranking out new content for that game, because really the engine is about all one man could ask for.

Man, if they actually added deformable terrain, and gravity, this game would go from suckage to a decently fun anti-alien shooter.

Oh, and they have to make it so the aliens don't completely destroy you with deployed lasers later on in the game.

I guess I just missed the fun in this one.

I hope this is the sequel that makes the game not suck. Honestly.

The first one was "how long can I bombard and resupply my artillery before I absolutely have to go in and do something?" Talk about boring after a while. The destroyable environments were nice, but honestly, the gameplay was very poor. The randomly generated battles were just too costly in terms of experienced units to make them interesting.

I watched that Golden-y thing, and it was pretty cool. I may have to check out some more of this 'action'

I found the 8 bit punk article pretty funny, because the writer babbles on and on about how amazing and real the music sounds and how great it is that they can make music so cheaply and yadda yadda, and then they say they don't like CD's because they're too cheap...

Grow up idiots, just use a fucking burner. It won't kill you.

I'll listen to the music, but I'm not going to buy an old record player just to appeal to some frenchman's desire to be "different"

I dunno. I like Port Royale alright, however, I wouldn't consider it better than Pirates by any length. For me, the ship battles were too... weird. Just, not being able to use the keyboard at all to steer seems so strange after becoming a keyboard master with Pirates! Gold and PotC.

I'd like to try "Pirate Hunter" to see how that works, the trading was ok in Port Royale, however, it was far too involved for me to get into anything else, and letters of Marque were too hard to get and keep.

I dunno, Firaxis is pretty cool sometimes.

I just hope it works out better than Civilization 3 did. Honestly, Reynolds worked the design so well, just needed a few more things and it would've been perfect, but Civ 3, IMHO, pushed the series back as much as it brought it forwards. Culture? Cool. HORRIBLE CORRUPTION OMG? Bad. A host of other cool little things? Cool. Getting rid of the HP/FP system? Bad.

You can disagree with me, but I just had a lot more good times playing Civ 2 than Civ 3. Maybe it's been patched and has since become infinitely better, but, I haven't picked it back up yet, and I doubt I will.

My god. This game looks like shit on a stick.

Seriously, I've seen more appealing games released 10 years ago. At least, the advertising was a bit less... stupid.

It's more or less just like trying to play any of the more obscure Half Life mods, everyone just wants to play CS so theres no one to play really good ones like The Opera, and Science & Industry.

Did anyone here ever play S&I? Talk about an awesome mod, but impossible to find more than 2 servers playing it, ever.

I think this game is actually about the story behind the HL2 stolen source code...

Yeah, I hope this is the patch that makes the game not suck. Or at least, be an interesting dungeon crawl even.

*sorely disappointed*

I'll say. I guess they realized that Port Royale wasn't a very good pirate game?

I think the biggest card in NVidia's favor is the fact that in all the new Aquamark DX9 tests, the 5900 does no where NEAR as poorly as Half Life has it doing. Now, maybe Valve "optimized" it for the NV3x, but, if their engine does so much worse with NVidia architecture than the stupid Aquanox engine, I think they need to look into getting some better programmers.

Slashdot write up was pretty good, had some links to things I'd never seen before, and as always, more info == better.

Yeah, this looks ok, but I'm worried their going to add too much plot to the mix. One of the best parts about XCom was that it was entirely your game, you never had any linear parts at all. You could camp and let half the world take over, and then just start, or you could be crazy about melee or any number of things.

This game, with its "storyline" kind of stuff kinda worries me, because I don't know if it will hold up to the XCom legacy.

And yeah, if the soldiers are supposed to seem more like real people because they are each individuals, I'm going to cry. I don't want to have to deal with the same folks every game.
