Correction: Rural America is TRYING to build its own internet because nobody else will, but asshole Senators keep introducing laws to prevent this, because they receive bribes from AT&T, Comcast and Verizon to stop it.

God will someone hit that fucker with a bus already.

On top of that, there's now official second wave options (difficulty settings when you start a new campaign) that allow you to double the mission timers and/or the length of the advent project (or something to that effect, not 100% sure what the amount was).

I didn't even notice that. Thank you, sir! (btw, can confirm that there's fewer mission timers now. I've had two so far without one. Ah, so much better. Fun new "hunt enemy commanders" missions too. )

Since it took me about an hour to figure this out, I figured I'd post it here and save someone the aggravation.

I started playing, and everything looked the same. Same intro mission, same shitty "Get the exploding generator" mission, same mission timers, same cutscenes. I check that the DLC is installed, yep. Every review I read says that WotC basically starts on the second mission. I play another mission, still nothing.

Sigh

Exit out, go back to the splash screen. There is a War of the Chosen logo there. So why is it not starting????

Turns out you have to CLICK that logo to select War of the Chosen as your game mode... So if you were wondering, there you go.

Same. The turn extension mod was the only thing that saved it for me. I'll probably wait until the Christmas sale to make sure that the mods are all working properly... Well...that and the fact that I'm in a backlog of titles I'm trying to play at this hot second.

Sounds like this version has an ini file that lets you tweak the turns. Most likely a mod is coming that does it for you (the current top turns mod was broken when I last looked). So not quite as easy as a mod yet, but not hard to change.

I've also seen some reviews that say that the mission timers have been scaled back quite dramatically, so now they're more of a "oh, hey, a mission with a timer!" than "Hey, the 249th mission in a row with a timer."

Of course, they've finally been able to figure out how to kill players through normal gameplay this time around, so they don't need the horseshit "You must rush into a group of aliens four times in a row if you want to have any hope of succeeding in this mission" design anymore.

In any case, it's trivially easy to lengthen the amount of turns you get. Just dig through the .ini files, it literally took me like 3 minutes to find the entry that controlled that, and a simple switch from 8 to 12 fixed pretty much all my aggravation with it. (and even with 12 turns, I had a few missions that came down to the last turn. 8 turns was just bullshit.)

It was a little annoying this morning when GMG was being slow to give the keys out, and then when I finally had my key, it gets installed as a piece of DLC in XCOM2, and I couldn't get freaking Steam to download it for love or money.

Finally started after ~ 45 minutes or so.

Should be ready to go when I come home. Wooo.

Go to Downloads. You'll see the DLC scheduled. Eff that. Hit the button to send it to the top of the queue and you'll download it instantly.

Yeah, but it wasn't showing up there. I think it was finally my restart of Steam that made it go "Oh, you want to download that."

The way DLC integrates into games has always been just plain fucking terrible in Steam.

Thanks for the tip, though.

Bullshit. Some of the absolute finest modders applied and got told "Your stuff isn't really what we're looking for." Ie, your stuff isn't vapid, empty bullshit we can sell for a few easy dollars.

But hey, the Power Horse Armor made it on!

It's really hard to resist. I have not been back to XCOM2 in a while, this is a good reason to.

Same here. Vanilla XCOM2 didn't click for me. I didn't mind the turn timers, I didn't mind the scarcity of resources in the strategy map, but both together ended up frustrating me.

Well, you might get even more frustrated by this expansion. Among the many changes are the really annoying(going by the smaller Alien Hunter DLC) bosses that will pop up in your missions and not even follow the rules of the game, ie. turn order, number of turns, etc.

I'll get this eventually, but probably wait for a sale.

The Alien Hunters DLC was nuts, they admitted they made it waaaaay too tough. They scaled it back (a bit) for the Chosen. I mean, they're still super tough, especially against your rookie squads, but they're not just stupid "Alien boss shows up, your squad dies."

BEWARE Microsoft and new hardware. Their track record with new hardware is abysmal.

Not true. Their mice and keyboards have been good. I still use a MS split keyboard on one of my Rigs. And their joysticks were great back in the day. Surface Pro gets great reviews. Lastly the Zune was good hardware, just had a crappy market.

Mice and keyboards, jeez, whatever, but their joysticks took a little while to get going (remember the wonderful bug where Windows 98 and the Sidewinder didn't work together?), and the Surface was a giant piece of fucking garbage until the 4th iteration. Go read up on some of the Surface 2 and Surface 3 problems. Some of which STILL aren't fixed.

Add into that the 360 RROD fiasco, their initial cordless phone venture, that garbage speaker set they released in the late 90s (which had a fun bug where it instantly set volume either to minimum or to maximum at random), the fucking KINECT, and I'm telling you, be careful to put money into Microsoft's new hardware ventures, especially if it seems the price point is way too good to be true.

Probably, but it doesn't explicitly say sold through Steam, so...
