News Comments > Ubisoft vs The Division Cheaters
2. Re: Ubisoft vs The Division Cheaters Apr 29, 2016, 21:03 Creston

We have great plans for the future of The Division, and for these to succeed we must make sure to provide a smooth high-quality experience.

And the way you made sure of that was to program a game where the client data was trusted? Yeah, that seems legit.

I'm going to say that you had great plans for your wallets, and for those plans to succeed, you programmed the Division as cheaply as you possibly could.

All we are doing is asking companies to find a way to keep their data secure while also cooperating with law enforcement in terrorism and criminal investigations.

Oh, is that all? Maybe for your next trick, you can draft legislation that forces companies to find a way to TURN OFF THE FUCKING SUN.

News Comments > DOOM Single-Player Video
48. Re: DOOM Single-Player Video Apr 29, 2016, 15:29 Creston

+ Rock solid frame rate.
+ Lots of monsters at once.
+ Maps look nicely complicated, definitely got a nice old school Doom feel from those, especially when seen on the automap.
+ Nice hunts for secrets.

- Glory Kills. Holy shit what a terrible fucking mechanism. Fortunately it can be turned off. (I think? I mean, if you turn the notification off, then it would stand to reason you can't actually glory kill?)
- Visuals are pretty meh.
- A chainsaw kill makes a monster drop tons of ammo? Wuh? You have 3 fuel cells for your chainsaw and some monsters take all 3 fuel cells. WUH? So the chainsaw is always insta-kill now??
- "Load from checkpoint" only????
- Movement seems too "glidey"
- Absolutely no feedback on monsters from being hit with weapons. We had that as far back as Doom 1.
- No feedback of any kind as to whether you're actually picking anything up or not when moving over it. It almost makes it feel as if he's playing with noclip on.

I think one thing that could have contributed to the apartheid was the faulty controller chip that the chinese megacorp inplanted in the large majority of the augmented people. With that in place, the unaugmented would have had an easy time rounding them all up.

I have to say it looks very good. Agreed on the terrible lip sync, but hopefully that's just for this video and not for the actual game. It seems to me like Adam is narrating the very first mission here, and things will run from there based on the capture/bring him in decision.

One thing I didn't like was that electro-darts power, however. Taking out 3 enemies at different locations in one shot and having it count as a stun rather than a kill is just stupidly OP.

But all I'm all, I'm extremely excited for this game.

33. Re: Romero's BLACKROOM Kickstarter Paused Apr 29, 2016, 14:54 Creston

"Nobody was backing it, hence we canceled it."

A demo will probably increase their backers by a decent chunk, but I just don't see this getting the money they want. Sorry, John, your name just doesn't carry the same weight, mostly on account of you really not having done anything on PC for the last ~ 20 years.

I have absolutely no love for CP suspects, but FUCK the assholes who came up with the All Writs Act in their fucking graves.

"You're not being charged with anything, but we're going to hold you in jail indefinitely."

What.The.Fuck.

So now we just have Guantanamo Bay here. Remember when Obama said he was going to close that shit?

Not sure there's much use for PC players for that website, but it seems slick enough for the Xbone and PS4 crowd.

I wonder what the console reception will be to mods suddenly making their game unstable though, because I can pretty much guarantee there's little to no curating being done. (other than curation of content.) Several of the mods currently on there seem like a "crash to desktop" waiting to happen.

I gotta say, I quite like their new back story. Seems much more plausible than the previous "yeah, North Korea just attacked and crushed the US" bullshit.

Guardedly optimistic about this now.

In the meantime, still nothing, nada, zip about their biggest franchise's latest offering, which is supposed to be out before the end of this year?

Doesn't bode well.

It got moved to Q1 2017, so I imagine we'll hear a lot about it during E3 or Gamescom.

Ah, I had missed that announcement. Gracias!

If you get hit with Ransomware:

1) Immediate yank the power cord
2) Take boot drive out
3) build fresh boot drive (or boot to WinPE or something)
4) Recover all your data

I know not all Ransomware is equal, but most of it sit there taunting you to call them WHILE THEY ARE STILL ENCRYPTING ALL YOUR SHIT.

Has anyone played this? It looks pretty cool, but skirmish only (basically, since the campaign is apparently short and not very good) games really don't last me long enough for me to bite at $50.
