I loved the story in Control, but the combat could feel unfair. It was difficult to gauge which enemy was the biggest threat, in terms of what would hit the hardest, and spending points on health increases on your part never felt like they actually did anything.

BUT I kept playing, because I loved the story. It had a death grip on me, so I kept going.

In contrast, I just played through Ori and the Will of the Wisps (I know, I know, totally different genre), and it's ALSO gorgeous, but it plays as well as it looks. Deaths felt fair and I knew how much an enemy would hurt me.

I *KNOW* that some devs intentionally hide the damage you take to tweak the game in the player's favor, or to make it FEEL like they won by the skin of their teeth, but I *HATE* that design theory. Make damage consistent, and most of all make sure that spending points toward more health FEELS LIKE YOU LIVE LONGER in a fight.

This shouldn't be on Steam if it's only going to work on Oculus headsets, which have their own store already. Or is this listing an admission that taking Facebook's money to make an exclusive doesn't quite cut it?

Glad to see I'm not the only person who didn't hate, but rather kind of enjoyed, John Carter. Dunno WHY it was considered "bad".

Ah yes, the EGS trend of releasing indie games for free, a few months after I purchase them, continues.

My issue is HumbleBundle doing that to me. It's not "free", but it happens often enough that now I shy away from picking up games I *THINK* might show up in it. Hades and Streets of Rage 4 would have been purchased by now, but I feel like any month now they'll be part of something I pay for anyway.

I quit WoWing before BC expansion came out. I never saw the changes since then. Maybe it's time for me to revisit.

BC was peak WoW in my estimation. I suppose everyone has a window of time that they think was the best for the game though.

To me, that peak was Legion. Shadowlands is OK, but I’m rapidly losing interest. Legion held my attention for the entire time the expansion was current.

We shall see. Right now it appears they're working on something called "Citadel".

Tyler Mcvicker claims that this is a hybrid VR-flat multiplayer game and it's in the "all hands on deck" stage of development that Alyx was in during the summer of 2019.

That’s a bit disappointing, although it’s possible that where Alyx left off, Valve is still in the planning stages for the next game.
Still very, very interested to see if they ever merge the Portal and HL universes, since HL2 showed that they do exist together, just not in the time period. Except maybe for the Borealus.

Oh, there's even more coming? Guess I'll just keep waiting for that inevitable "GOTY" edition. I loved the 2016 game, they finally put something of a story into it (although it's nothing like the Wolfenstein games did) and the gameplay was as sublime as Dead Cells or the Ori games. I just don't want to get burned like I did with Control, where the complete version cost less than the base game did, AND I bought both expansions.
Control, by the way, is also pretty good, although the combat controls felt off. That part is likely from my aging PC struggling to keep it running smoothly. The story in Control is GREAT. Think Warehouse 13 taken as seriously as the X-files.

I don't get how VR isn't raging; you would think there are millions of VR Index headsets out there since its been in the top 5 for months?

VR is holding its footing, but you won't see VR games in Steam's top 10 for a while....especially since decent GPUs are impossible to get right now. Sony recently announced PSVR2, which is HUGE news. Console manufacturers will usually scurry away from a tech that doesn't sell like crazy, so it must be doing well enough. I mean, they're making REAL VR controllers this time around, and I'm assuming the headset is higher resolution than the original.
How does that affect PCVR? It doesn't, not directly (although it's possible PSVR2 could work on a pc), but if hardware manufacturers show confidence in their products, developers will follow.

It’d be nice if they focused on stuff like, I dunno, the ability for EGS to realize maybe it’s been reinstalled and that it could be pointed at a folder to see games it already had before.

But no, it’s way more important that people can party up. That’ll remove the sting of losing 100 hours of progress in a game.

Man, I’m glad the guy who found the solution got paid. So often, modders get jack shit for their efforts to make a game significantly better than the devs made it.

Yep, we loved Russian Doll but it seems pointless to do it again.

On the upside, additional story doesn't ruin the original. Just like how the second season of Altered Carbon doesn't somehow make the first season suck.

Yes. There are races that cover most of the map too. Longest is 24 miles of driving, around the entire map.

Oh wow. That's awesome!

YUP. Keep in mind, the team that makes the Forza Horizon games is made of people who made the early Dirt games, Burnout Paradise, and Project Gotham. It plays as well as it looks.
Sadly, it doesn't appear that the demo is available on Steam. If you can stand it, grab the demo on the Microsoft store. It gives you a surprising amount of content (although it WILL NOT save your progress), and a large area to scoot around in.

The cars and the racing look cool, but holy cow that DLC...

So the only DLC worth getting is usually the actual land expansions, not the extra cars (unless you have a serious hard-on for a specific car). You get HUNDREDS of cars in the regular game.

Though I love this case more. I'd definitely pay someone to give it the Hellraise puzzlebox treatment.

It's....not a good case. You can't hide ANYTHING, and it takes up way more space than you think it will.

I don't think it's very fair to compare this to Reforged at this point. It seems like the developers are way ahead of the game when it comes to producing a faithful remaster of the game by not going total annihilation on the original title.

The issue with Reforged is that they DIDN'T go "total annihilation" on it. They kept the 15FPS animations. They kept the jaggy landscaping. The front end runs like trash. All to make it work in multiplayer with people playing the original still. They *SHOULD* have, at least for the campaign, had smooth animations, far more detailed landscaping, and the redone cutscenes they showed off (and then removed). The original game held it back, and I have a feeling that will happen with D2, since they say you'll be able to switch back and forth between the original and new art.

Maybe I'm wrong, and it'll be like the Master Chief collection, where you can switch back and forth but the upgrade is clear, regardless.
