I think the more important news is the fact that Intellivision is returning. Wow! I used to play games on that machine. Absolutely hated that disc-shaped controller thing. But had a blast with the games on the rare occasions I was able to play.

I think this system is gonna fly about as well as the Ouya. Nintendo's the only company that can get away with low-powered hardware, because they have impossibly good first-party games.

Selling out to the man!

No clue really, never heard of them, nor played.

Three years ago, saying something like this would be like saying you've "never heard of Fortnite" today. I don't get why they're picking up the company NOW, unless they have a new game they're about to release. This honestly feels a lot like Microsoft's purchase of Minecraft.

Man, I hope they do a good job with it. I have MCC for the Xbone but it was such a train wreck that I havenít bothered to go back to it. Dividing the multiplayer into several completely different games was a terrible idea; just give us ONE multiplayer game. Donít fragment the user base by making them go into each game and check if anyoneís playing it. Youíre done with it before youíve checked them all.

I will say, I think people will be surprised at how good the halo 2 remake looks, as well as Halo 4. 1 and 3 look fine, but hot DAMN the even numbered ones are gorgeous.

The water-vs-air video is...very basic. They test only Corsair AIO waterblocks versus a Noctua heatsink. Noctuaís gonna won the noise war against...err, anything, and Corsairís waterblocks are fucking terrible. So of course the air cooler is gonna win out.

Unless youíre into heavy overclocking, a Noctua cooler is going to be your best bet. Too bad they donít sell them with the black fans in the box, you have to swap out for them.

I would love to invest into a VR headset. However 1000$ is way too expensive. These things need to get cheaper, not more expensive, with each generation if they are to attain any widespread adoption.

Currently the issue is that the hardware is advancing still. Like flagship cellphones, the prices are going to go up for a while until thereís a solid plateau. Eye tracking and wireless needs to become standard before lower prices on the highest-end hardware will happen.

The WMR headsets/controllers can be had for as little as $250. You canít look at the highest end device and say ďthatís too expensive, they need to be cheaperĒ. You wouldnít say Ferraris need to be cheaper, youíd just buy a Toyota.

Do I think the Index is pricey? Oh yeah. Way too pricey for me, but wait until Black Friday. Iíd bet theyíve set it to $1000 so they have tons of room to drop it.

Pretty sure the barely-mentioned inside-job theory is most likely, considering the time it would take to pull off the ďheistĒ. But since the three owners all know each other it was blamed on a repair tech so that the other two donít throw a hissy for about them having exclusive access to what is probably not a very good game.

What Iím reading here is them ripping on BR games because itís a game mode, not worthy of an entire game built around it.

I absolutely agree.

Microsoft engineer complains that company is biased against white men.

Of course they are. They'd rather hire non-American H1B visa holders that they can pay half the salary to.

This. This right here. The ONLY thing I agree with Trump on. IT wages are plummeting because companies are constantly importing H1B replacements for their current IT staff. They pay them peanuts but since itís WAY more than theyíd make in their origin country, theyíre happy to take it. Never mind that they end up having to live in low-end housing while working a job that previously paid for a 4,000 sq foot house in a nice area.

What changed since the prosperous 80ís? Stockholders. Most of them are now old, and have gone from being concerned about the long-term well-being of the companies they own stock in, to wanting as much as they can get as fast as they can. So every quarter they demand more more more and they donít care where it comes from. Strip a company bare and see how long it will continue bringing in money on the goodwill its name once held.

As much as people may say Valve is complacent and just sitting on their money, at least they arenít publicly traded. Valveís *employees* are reaping the benefits of their (prior) labors, not stockholders whose only virtue was to have money they didnít immediately need.

The comments section on the article has some comedy gold in it. most of it is people either outraged that a game like this could even happen or people defending it like the genre isnít packed with trash, but the funny stuff is brilliant.

Whats so great about Risk of Rain 2?

Basically itís a shockingly faithful sequel. The enemies are technically the same ones from the 2D game, but now with a third person 3D game. It looks ďrightĒ, it feels solid. Itís not a pretty game but neither was the first.

The dev managed to make the sequel a completely different genre without alienating its original audience. Thatís pretty awesome.

Pfft. Devs will still have to make their games run on dual core processors because too many gamers skimp on their CPU and then are super vocal about the games that refuse to run on them. I canít recall which games, but I think two games already had enough backlash about not running on dual cores that the devs made changes so the games would. I donít think either game really used the CPU much though.

PC gamers, in general, are absurd. They expect HUGE improvements over console versions of games, and they also want those same games to run well on hardware from 8 years ago.

A *bit* of a bummer, but the remaster is everything the original was, plus the console DLC that the original never had. And it's cheap, $10 base price.

I haven't played BP for a long time. Forza Horizon picked up the slack, and does everything better except the crashes. Want incredible crashes? Wreckfest will feed that urge.

16. Re: Valve Skin Gambling Lawsuit Apr 16, 2019, 16:03 HoSpanky

I donít really care for loot boxes, but as long as they only contain cosmetics, I donít think theyíre a decidedly BAD thing.

People will gamble on anything. ANYTHING. You canít stop it, the risk/reward is too tempting and exciting. The skins exist, but the gambling sites have their own system, it isnít built into anything Valve has. Like someone else said, itís like blaming a playing card company for people losing money at casinos.

People dig cosmetics in video games. This is proven. Valve has cosmetics in their games. The only real difference between CS:GO and every other game is that the skins can be sold through the marketplace. That in itself isnít inherently bad; people can get whatever they want if theyíre willing to pay for it. Basic supply/demand economics will set pricing.

The gambling is a completely separate system and Valve canít possibly be held responsible. Loot boxes may be a form of gambling but thatís not what the lawsuit is about.

The girl in question isnít American. Blackface wasnít a thing in her country. Why is she responsible for knowing what might be offensive IN ANOTHER COUNTRY?

I guaran-fucking-tee everyone reading this has unknowingly done something that would be seen as offensive in another part of the world.

She wasnít putting on makeup to mock anyone, it was done because thatís what color the characterís skin is. And IN HER COUNTRY, thatís not considered offensive.

The entire world isnít the United States.

I'm definitely more interested in the Rift S between the two. The fact that you no longer need sensors is great. What I found annoying was depending on if I want to do something standing or sitting, I'd have to move my sensors and go through the annoying setup each time. F that. I ended up not using my Rift much because of that and right now it's not plugged up and the software/drivers are not installed.

The Quest is cool, but the fact that Oculus is locking it down so tightly with what can and can't be put on it is lame. Unless there's a way to bypass that and sideload, there is no way I'm touching that system.

So rift looks very lacking in these new announcements. Even the windows WMR headset seems better than this.

I currently have a 1st Generation Rift and my cameras have burnt out before so yes getting the Inside out tracking is much better idea.

Honestly, I think Valve INDEX (Valve's new VR annoucement in May) might be the next headset i buy.

Iím hoping the Index brings some actual advancements, but I wonít be surprised if it doesnít bring the single biggest advancement VR headsets need...foveated rendering (which requires eye tracking). It shifts the cost onto the headset more than the video card, which Iím sure headset makers arenít keen on doing. Supposedly the tech exists and works great. You can GET eye tracking hardware for the vive, but it forces you to extend it away from your face, making your FOV even smaller.

The Knuckles controllers might be enough on their own to switch though. Hopefully theyíve also got a wireless option in the works so if you want to spend a bit more and stop tangling up just when the action gets intense, you could do that.

I should really stop speculating. Itíll all be answered in about a month.

I kinda get why people want these games to ďstay hardĒ. From my admittedly minimal investigation, thereís not a whole lot of story to them. The entire game IS the combat. I can respect that. I played through the first two 3D Ninja Gaiden games, they were the same concept.
So what you're saying is that an Easy Mode would expose the Souls games as devoid of content or compelling gameplay?

Sorta? As the article states, you can watch people play the game on YouTube or twitch. The entire purpose of playing a game is different per game. Some games are about exploration, and maybe these Souls-style games are about that partially. I can see an easy mode facilitating the exploration aspect. But if the combat becomes too simple and thereís no story, then all the weapons, armor, fighting styles become pointless. The combat - the puzzle that each boss presents - and then not only solving the puzzle mentally, but competently completing it physically IS the tasty nugget that players are looking for with that sort of game. Take that away and whatís left?

And Iím not saying that it would be devoid of content. I honestly donít know if it would! I donít know how many bosses there are or how large the worlds actually are for each game. Maybe theyíre huge and super cool to explore and the combat being simplified would still make the game worth playing. Or maybe people would complain and say they finished the game in 5 hours what a rip off.

What I AM saying is that games whose primary draw is ďitís hard as fuck!Ē donít benefit from having an easy mode. Those games arenít for me anymore. Like the author, I want something that isnít designed to be frustrating...my day is packed with frustration. So now I play co-op games generally. Theyíre not devoid of frustration, but thatís not literally their selling point.

ARE these games more than the combat? Is there a deep, intricate story being told? That would make an easy mode valuable.

Adding features for those with vision or hearing loss doesnít sound like ďpanderingĒ, though. Those people might want the same challenge level, but if there are audio cues that the game ASSUMES you can hear, that makes an already difficult game nearly impossible for deaf players. Adding in ANY visual/audio impairment assistance costs money, and even then may result in something that isnít helpful for some players.

Lulz

The game is being banned because people like playing it. Not because it has lootboxes and microtransactions, but because people find it fun.

Iíve never played PUBG, but I doubt it has some secret sauce that makes it more appealing than any other game ever made. So will Nepal ban ANYTHING that becomes popular? Maybe games shouldnít be allowed to be sold there at all, because one might become popular and therefore illegal.
