News Comments > Fortnite Battle Royale Mode
1. Re: Fortnite Battle Royale Mode Sep 13, 2017, 22:41 HoSpanky

Haven't tried this mode yet, it offers no rewards and I much prefer the game's PVE loop. Variety is a good thing, though. I'll likely give it a spin a couple times.

The base PVE gameplay in FN is pretty entertaining, although they haven't finished tilesets for the 4 world zones the game takes play in. It's disappointing to get to progress to a new zone aaaand it looks exactly the same. There are obvious hints as to what they will look like, but for now...green grass and pine trees everyfuckingwhere. It's in Early Access, I understand that the art will likely be the last thing completed. Doesn't stop it from being a bummer tho.

None of you read the article. It's a comedy piece. See that bit there Blue put in (Satire)? You ARE the Facebook crowd, getting bent out of shape because you're too lazy to pay attention.

Or we did read the article and regardless of its satire (or perhaps because of it) it poses interesting questions that maybe should be discussed?

Nearly everyone was talking about PewDiePie, the person being satirised. I think HoSpanky was too lazy to pay attention.

When did I say it wasn't about PDP? Literally every post prior to my first one was about how dumb/wrong the author was, zero of those people read the article before posting, which is Facebook thinking. "I know all I need to from the article title, which I didn't read very clearly". PewDiePie was absolutely the intended "writer" for that article.

Anyway, it's back to the whole Spider-Man catchphrase. People who have a lot of influence really, REALLY need to realize that everything they do can and will be imitated by the kids who adore them. These people need to hold themselves to a higher standard. Fame always comes with that, and these shitheels don't want to change themselves at all despite being role models. I'm lumping professional atheletes in with streamers here, btw. Both behave badly FAR more than they ought to.

Looks like it could be some silly fun. Considering the studio it's from, I expect it'll be pretty low priced anyway.

Glad to see the Grow Home series' makers are still in business. The two Grow games are a weird type of fun that you really don't see in games much anymore. Hoping it follows to this game.

THE only expansion I'm interested in currently is the one for Horizon Zero Dawn coming out in November.

And don't get all bent out of shape here, guys. Expansions have to be in the works before a game releases, or else they'll get released WAY later than when people's interest in a game has already disappeared.

4. Re: L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files Announced Sep 7, 2017, 11:49 HoSpanky

The face tech in the game is still some of the most disturbingly lifelike representation in a game. Hellblade has better, but it only has ONE character. Seeing it in VR is going to be bonkers. Hopefully they realize it's not a full game, and price it accordingly. I'd assume $20 from the description.

Side note, if you haven't played Hellblade, it's pretty impressive. It's technically an Indie game, and it shows in some places, but 95% of the game is visually astounding. The story is decent, not the best, but decent. Combat has that "any enemy could kill you" feel.

I'll just deal with the cord until the next gen headsets come out with wireless built in. Hopefully they'll have eye tracking and foveated rendering built in as well.

Holy crap, that video was made using the game engine. I forgot how gorgeous that game is. Never got to the expansions, the main game was so incredibly long that I felt exhausted with it by the end. But it's been several months, maybe it's time.

I'm surprised Amazon found out about this before the eclipse. With their incredible variety of products, there's no way to test everything that they sell, especially when items are listed the same as others and then the product itself is a fake.

The people who listed the glasses should be the target, not Amazon. But Amazon has MONEY, whereas the crap glasses dealer is likely nowhere to be found.

DRM is usually demanded by shareholders. I'm sure devs aren't super excited about adding in another possible avenue of issues with their game.

So where is the Rockband and VR setup?

There's a media stand visible on the left edge of that picture as well. It has the TV and Xbone for Rock Band. As for VR, the Rift is packed away until we move. I don't really feel like I'm missing anything living without it in the meantime.

Lone Echo will still be there when you unpack the Rift.

Surprised at using wired headphones, though. I got the Logitech g930 set a couple years ago, and being able to keep up with a conversation while getting a snack/drink is awesome. They work at about the distance of a room and a half, which is more than expected.
I looked at those Arozzi desks briefly, but I really need one that sits in a corner. The computer room is the smallest room in the house, with a weird diagonal door entry. Gotta squeeze two rigs, a mini fridge, a card table and a cat tree in one little room. Both desks are corner desks to accommodate all this, and I can't really get around that.

Nice clean setup! Is that because it's a new desk, or so you always manage to keep it that clutter-free?

Ha , that's a great response.

instead of banning him, they should have programmed his IP to just sit there spinning, saying it was trying to connect to a game. Griefer would just be sitting there for how long , thinking he's about to get in to play....

Agreed, they could also make queueing griefers only be put into a pool with others of their kind. I think GTA5 does that?

Watched some youtube videos reviewing the developer kits, seems the HP is nicer than the Acer with regards to comfort, lots of issues with the quality of the VR image.

This could kill off VR completely if the experience is poor, manufacturing defects aside it seems like they're aiming this device at first time VR users. It might be good enough to give a short thrill to minecraft players but will anyone stick with this device for the long haul or will people just return it wishing they could afford a "real" VR headset?

Multiple headset vendors with no hard set design specifications other than the display resolution and lenses? All of the headsets should be sold with the motion controllers from a developer point of view, now they're going to cause problems with regards to the type of games you make.

You'd think they'd have learned the "include he motion controllers!" lesson from Oculus, but apparently in their race to the bottom, these headsets are gonna be super barebones. Image quality has been considered quite good, according to the recent previews on various VR sites.

Another entrant in this market is a good thing. Hopefully it will drive innovation up and prices down.

Another 4 entrants, technically. Four companies have these headsets launching by the end of the year. Steam support wasn't really known until today, though. That's a huge deal.

Nex Machina for $12 (11.99) is entirely worth it, if you were at all a fan of Smash TV or Robotron style games. It's awesome at that price.

Agreed. It's a surprising kick in the ass at any level above easy, but it's oh so deliciously well made.

Pretty much. Get a very good friend to be the "winner", and it would never have been an issue. You both walk away loaded. I'm not condoning his actions, just flabbergasted that he clearly would have succeeded if he'd just taken one rather obvious step.

Be careful what you ask for!

Some friends and I tried the latest Aliens: Isolation VR mod for the Rift... it gave all of us motion sickness to the point where none of us wanted to play it again!

Yes, the immersion was intense and the games atmosphere was engrossing, giving it a certain thrill and excitement.

However, the movement from the first person POV was a tough pill to swallow. Perhaps a third person POV would be easier to tolerate... but the speed of Doom makes it a barf fest Puke

Doom won't be run and gun. They'll use the magic teleport style of gameplay other fps games have done.

Sssssorta. Last I saw, it uses Dash mechanics, which means you can't port THRU enemies. I'm a fan of Dash, as it allows those with nausea issues to play without problems, yet doesn't have the disorienting "blink" of teleporting.

In a slower paced game, I still think Budget Cuts got the teleporting mechanic down the best. (NO, the full game isn't out yet. The devs claim it should be out late this year or early next year, but there's no confirmed date yet.)

Why the hell not!? I don't understand that.

I'm betting there's some Sony money in there.

Also, I KINDA hope they have hardware blocks for people using Rifts. So tired of Rift users defending the Oculus store's hardware exclusivity, maybe they'll understand the annoyance Vive users feel with the Bethesda releases.
