News Comments > Warcraft III and Diablo II Remaster Plans?
7. Re: Warcraft III and Diablo II Remaster Plans? Jun 16, 2017, 12:34 Nut

Remaster Warcraft 3? That engine still looks very good, and it plays well.

Plays well? Sure.

Looks good? Only with a certain nostalgic acceptance of the standard of the day.

To a contemporary, or new, or young gamer, no. It looks like very primitive 3D to 2017 standards. There's at least remodelling, rendering and special effects work to be done, as well as integration into the modern form of Battle.net, etc.

Valve is an R&D company at least as much as they are a game (and distribution platform) development studio.

The negativity is from those arguing that it's essentially the same game as Banished.

I've heard it both ways: that it goes beyond having all the same game systems to even having all the same buildings ("ripoff" of Banished) , to that it has significant differences ("inspired by"/"improved iteration" of Banished).

I really don't know which side to believe.

Correction: Racket: Nx has native support for both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. You can tell by the support icon for the Rift on the store page.

Lots of VR games on Steam support the Rift.

I don't understand how people are still buying gta 5 in such large numbers.

I'm impressed too, but I sort of ignorantly chalk it up to saying that very few games truly become a mainstream "everyone must have this" obsession.

GTA V earned it. The technology and craft behind the game is stunning.

But yeah, there is an enormous divide behind a successful game, and a game that absolutely everyone gets. GTA V seems to be the latter.

This is great news. The Darksiders games are top notch -- though the second one was almost too dense with options and content for its own good. They are Zelda-inspired adventures, but full of good ideas, good execution, and clearly a lot of love. High hopes for the sequel.

News Comments > Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion Visual Update

To anyone reading this not already familiar with "Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion":

If you have any love or suspicion of love with hybrid RTS/4x space strategy, get it.

It's a truly deep and spectacular game, with a lot of depth, and still very good in single player.

Tbh it shines in multiplayer but the learning curve is daunting. I played a lot of SP and only a little MP and don't regret it (too much).

Tons of depth and variety, given that this is the collection of the game plus all of its expansion packs. It's a classic.

The lack of outrage from the Vive fanboys is rather humourous. If it had been Oculus, they'd be lighting torches.

At least as far as the /r/Vive subreddit is concerned, you made a false assumption.

It's full of a lot of upset people, and you'll find that a huge majority of the regulars there will suggest that you "uninstall all the Vive software as crap" (meaning as distinct from SteamVR, at least).

There's understandably a pretty solid amount of hate at the idea of view-tracked VR ads.

Yes, your trip must be 17.5m (75% longer) on repeated trips! At its current scale, American Truck Simulator is clearly not a good enough simulator of road monotony.

Absolutely.

Are you sure about this? I'm not sure I'd give Blizzard's marketers that much credit. For them the large amount of attention suddenly given to sexualizing/desexualizing Tracer could just be a happy accident.

I like how this still makes sense, albeit with the opposite meaning, due to the lack of a single "r".

This is likely to get resolved, but per my own experience and Reddit, currently any attempt to claim the game is met with the error: "There was an issue that kept us from completing your request. No need to panic, just give it another try later."

I think Ill just wait for DOOM4. Thanks.

I'm gonna go ahead and argue that this is exactly what they want.

Kinda sad to "partially shelve" such an excellent game as Quake Live, but judgement goes into decisions such as this, and I bet you that id Software & Bethesda simply don't want to compete with themselves over some of their most hardcore shooter fans.

In other news, Popular Annual Game 2015 has now had its game servers sunsetted in anticipation of the imminent release of Popular Annual Game 2016.

(J/K, hopefully these days EA and large studios have better plans for keeping alive cheap, scalable server infrastructure for their games.)

Agreed 100%! The Quickmatch matchmaking REALLY needs some more constraining rules (like requiring a warrior vs. another team with no warrior... hello?! this happens in combination with support/no support, etc.).

Totally lax rules make for un-fun quick matches. They need to fix this ASAP.

I recommend that any player move on to Hero League ASAP, it's a lot better with drafting, and the game is great.

> Sheesh... <snipped>

I share your "sheesh" by the way, but this is a good patch. It is not a sweeping balance change but it makes competitive several warrior heroes (Stitches, ETC, Diablo, Chen received buffs).

From what I have seen on the PTR Chen might actually be overpowered now in the right hands, haha, and Diablo still takes like an expert setup to use (so he won't really be used... they are worried about him being overpowered so he is only negligibly improved).

This will be remembered as the "warrior buff" patch and basically it makes certain existing warrior heroes (Stitches, Chen, ETC, Diablo) more viable, with negligible nerfs for Zeratul and Johanna and Leoric (who will still be top tier in my opinion). Also the new hero (Lt. Morales) is good and interesting but not overpowered.

This is good to see. I respect DOTA2 enormously as a game, but it's very hardcore, and HOTS instead strikes a sweet spot in being a deep yet casual MOBA, and one that is more varied than DOTA or LOL in its various maps and outside the box hero designs.

Re: Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard has shown themselves to be very aware of the nuances of what makes it good and bad, and these refinements will make a very polished game better.

I believe you are thinking of Quake Live, unless you are referring to source code releases in which case I believe all the Quakes except maybe Quake IV have had non-game content source releases (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Quake Live isn't 100% Quake 3 but it's very very close, only a few modernizations to make it contemporary for what pro gamer people were doing with Quake 3 before it came out.
