The idea of judges case-by-case legislating changes to DNS that don't correspond with registrations is awful. Hopefully this goes before a court that is tech savvy enough to understand how this can erode at the entire distributed system.

It's odd how Hasbro's losses were said to be because of the declining toy sales, despite D&D publishing doing well, but the layoffs affected the D&D team so much that the team he worked with is gone.

This is not odd and companies with multiple non-competing divisions will often gut one that is doing well because another is doing poorly during restructuring.

And yes this is never the smart restructuring, it's what executives do anyway because they control people and make flawed decisions anyway.

I'd never noticed that Add-On menu before, all sorts of goodies. sweet

They must have added that after release, didn't see it back when I played through in the Remaster. I take it this is only in the Quake remaster (KEX engine) not the id Tech based engines? Going to reinstall it on Steam, QDoom sounds amazing. Wonder if it also has Arcane Dimensions, would be a fun way to play it, the best Quake mod.

Can confirm the Add-On menu is in both Quake and Doom remasters, and they also did a really good job populating it with most of the the greatest seminal episodes/add-ons.

Unfortunately, Arcane Dimensions is a notable absence and they said it was due to some kind of rights issue that is unlikely to be resolved.

A little heavy-handed with the shirking here. 😝 What they asked is in the headline though.

The original Bayonetta voice actress, who did a distrinctive and excellent job, apparently only told the final / reduced offer for a smaller role rather than the larger one she was offered to to return to the series for the 3rd game.

Though forums are far superior, their software administration is indeed oof and they tend to be for a more dedicated or niche audience. Kind of a regrettable/understandable thing.

The game is solid, and I'm a fan. The control scheme is beyond eccentric -- a bullet hell game where you (preferred method) hold a modifier key to convert dodging to typing, often in Latin, in order to counterattack -- but it's well designed and made beyond the novelty of being built around what is inherently and intentionally an awkward typing mechanic. As an expert typist I found the game pretty easy, but the bullet hell segments are no joke either.

Oof
Talk about your corporate deja vu.

Wasn't "StarCraft: Ghost" a code-named StarCraft first- (or maybe third-) person shooter that was cancelled?

lol

I hate censorship and love Disco Elysium, so I can't cry too hard at this, but I've also played through DE enough times to know that... I mean... it's complicated.

> Drug use is not explicitly depicted within the game.

Sure it is? Or can text not be explicit? It's got way more drug use than the average game, complete with both pros and cons.

> getting his life back together after his substance abuse. The themes and drug references within the game are inextricably linked.

This is accurate (although stopping the substance abuse is not at all required)

> to the point where regular drug use leads to negative consequences for the player’s progression in the game.

And I'm being long winded but, yeah, this is a nope. You can benefit from riding your addiction in the game but it's a balancing act.

Censorship is such a funny business. I guess they can't come straight out and say "turns out this is a mature and balanced depiction of drug use" so they have to make up some minor lies that those really familiar with the game know are objectively untrue.

Loved this company, guess that they are wholly owned by a holding company is... not a good sign? Are they still an active studio?

Guess they have switched to making mobile OS RTS games.

It's kind of a nice success story either way.

Is the game in a state ready to play today? Yes, it's very complete (with the absurdly bad English translation that basically disappears as an issue after the tutorial, if you're willing to do a little interpretation of the in-game descriptions).

Is the game "also" possibly worth buying for its future potential? Yes, the developers have been cranking out updates and it's a big success, so it may be even better as Early Access development continues.

Different strokes, I guess? Subjective stuff, but to me Tropico 6 is the best new Tropico since 3. The writing isn't the best but the scenarios are fascinating and unique, almost to the point where it's a hybrid management-adventure game.

I had kind of written off Tropico as having too many samey sequels and it was a breath of fresh air. Big fan. I'm interested to see what other work Limbic Entertainment will do, they seem talented.

> I wonder what their internal data says about the viability of still spending time and money on NMS, they must be still getting a decent number of new sales?

I wonder this too. As far as I can tell their pricing strategy is to still keep No Man's Sky relatively highly priced (no big timed price slash sales that people wait for), which makes sense. It's also possible they arranged sweetheart deals with Microsoft for what they are getting paid to have this on Game Pass. And wasn't this a PSPlus title? Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know how those deals work in general but for a popular title they might be a strong source of income.

In a way NMS is a great example of how to run a game as a service, even if they don't call it that. A bad example would be how Paradox charges hundreds of dollars for upgrades over the years, resulting in a lot of hurt wallets and a significant number of players not getting all of the game features that are developed -- they need to look into running their own subscription service or something.

> hope the headset gets hacked completely open, like Revive

Nitpicky detail here Razumen, but Revive was never a hack. It was legitimate software that connected the Oculus SDK to the OpenVR open standard (pretty much SteamVR's language for connecting to a headset, even though it was nominally intended to become the open standard).

Yes 'hack' is poorly defined, but I don't believe in calling an intended usage of an SDK a hack. And I say that even knowing that Oculus/Facebook tried to block it before they changed their mind after user backlash.

So is this the death of the UPlay brand? Seems funny (and perhaps not a coincidence) that EA is also rebranding Origin and Origin Access to EA Play.

I do wonder why it's worth the cost and time for these companies to rebrand when the service is the same (their first party digital distribution platform and subscription access, both before and after the new brand and new software...), but perhaps it's necessary for their organization to keep the projects fresh, including throwing out the old so they can redesign the new.

It's just you don't always see this willingness to throw out old content in other fields so it's a little confusing to me.
