Re: how about a donation system? Mar 10, 2007, 08:48

I have done the same, as have most of my friends. We are IT nerds, if you will. Downloading everything, trying out stuff. watching that odd TV serie from the 60s you never thought excisted, trying games you had no knowledge of, listening to audiobook courses to learn everything you want!

Being a pirate is about socializing and being cultural. It's not about breaking the laws and refuse to respect other peoples work. But, the pirates are also the biggest consumers I think. That is how it is in my circle of friends.

Also, the game/app developers I know, share the very same feeling, they are no different than others. But we all need to respect the Authors work, so donation system is indeed a good idea to try out, but it must be implemented in a good way.

The problem is how the law is set up today. Should millions be criminalized? It is the full scale piracy is a "problem" (and it is not going away!), not the individual.

In the end, I think there must be some kind of "fair use", you can't possibly buy all the information you want. But support the things you like.

Being cultural: internet is the perfect setting, customize it, get any tv, movie, music, program, game you want. Instantly. Price isn't the thing. Because it doesn't exist. Not yet. Organisations hasn't yet catch up with the freedom , speed and versatility built up online societys the internet has inspired us to create. And it is growing. Why would anyone wait a month to buy Artist X's new album when it's available in advance for free now? Why wait a week to view lettermans show last night, when it can be downloaded now? Illegal yes, but it IS a growing trend. Somehow, it doesn't stop people like me to buy games, and movies. Things i like and want to support.

I'm not saying downloading and using is morally right, but as long internet is free, and nobody is hurt by my actions as an individual, 1 and 0 is still just 1 and 0. duplicateable. It is really only I who can put a price on my downloads.

But if we look at the law, and upcoming laws, it would seem that individuals will suffer legally from riaa, mpaa's witchhunt. They want a few single people pay for the piracy effect that's been in motion and is really no single persons fault. (well maybe except Al Gore)

Now, if they wants to slow down illegal p2p sharing they are doing it wrong, threatening individuals. Their problem wont go away. This will only create more enemies. (worldwide alliances is already created, such as the pirate party, defence for p2p victims and even political support).

Sorry for my faulty english.

I hope univs get together and form an alliance against stasi-wannabes like the RIAA. Why is no one focusing on the evil of this idea, that most of students, worldwide are being criminalized, for being cultural. At my own univ here in Sweden most people uses p2p to get illegal copies of movies and music. But, is every downloaded copy a loss in sales?

MS said themselves that they were forced by the movie industry to implement this DRM. For me it seems like a horror scenario.

Also they kind of force people to buy vista by not allowing DX10 to XP. And you can't use remote desktop both ways (can only recieve), if you don't buy ultimate ultra super edition!

Yeah, im gonna spend all my study money to buy a $400 overhyped overbloated overinfected OS that's now in 3D!

After installing this demo, and trying to run it, it wants to install a "protection system" first. WTF! NO! I refuse to install anything that won't ID itself. I sure it's evil anyway.

Now i have to uninstall the demo without even trying the game.

I remember having the same problem with many other demos.

Scottish Martial Arts: Does audiobooks count?

I thought Bond was an assasin not by choice, but because he had to do it for queen and country. Craig is OK in "Layer Cake" and "Munich" but it's far away from Bond character. I'd be very suprised if he pulls this off. The teaser was pretty laughable like an generic action with bond soundtrack. I hope im wrong.

Just like with The great escape, SCi will screw this one up as well, there is no doubt.

Tell me, how and why does anyone let crap games be built around such good movies?

ugh...

Glad to see that Activision gets a chance on 007, I guess they continue to trash the franchise, but one could always hope.

This Daniel Craig thing...HE IS NOT a Bond! He has a typical badguy-face and just doesn't fit the character personality. I find him annoying. In fact, it seems that most people prefer someone else. Check out http://craignotbond.com/

I think Bond-movies has dropped in quality since the connery/moore era. Recently they have been more focused on the action. I miss the cheesyness! However they have been atleast "ok" because of Brosnan. I am a big bond-fan (ofcourse i have the dvdbox) but i'm afraid "bad" and "tuff" looking Craig will reduce bond to some plain action movie.

Anyway, I like to see more Bond games in 3rd-person adventure. I think "the spy who loved me" for Amiga is the best. After GoldenEye N64 perhaps. If only Monolith could make them...

I really do hate steam, i think it's driving us in the wrong direction. I can see people cracking Sin2 just as with HL2, so they won't have to use steam. I understand them.

I really liked Sin1, and im excited about the sequel but, as with HL2, im pretty sure i won't get steam to play the game. But thats my problem i guess.

Red Orchestra, here i come!

The original movie from 1945 is one of the best mystery movies i've seen, if not THE best. The game will not be up to its standards but if it can be what like indy3 was for the movie i'd be satisfied.

I know now why F-secure found virus...and it had right too! It's the ****ing starforce protection system being installed. And yes it's a virus. It installs itself without asking first. And it can't be removed... Lot's of people reporting problems with system after install but most ppl won't even notice.

It's most evil to include this in a DEMO! DAMN YOU PUBLISHERS!

UPDATE: it can be removed with http://www.star-force.com/support/sfdrvrem.zip

Im also a ATI fan, although i haven't bought a new card since i got nvidia Ti4200. But somewhere since then i've gone over to ATI's side, and it wasn't over a night. And i don't know a single reason why, but its little things like their screwed up nvidia 5800 and other things like company changes, image and stuff, and that their cards produce so much noise compared to ATI's. They smell more microsoftish now. Back when they were up against 3dfx they were new and cool. ATI has always been big and stable, but not in the same way as nivida is.

Don't get your hopes up...sure the trailer looks cool, but you only get to see 1-2 sec gameplay sequences. Actually the beta/alpha is very buggy and unstable, plus it has no good feeling while playing. Still the idea of the game is cool, specially the engine. I hope they just can fix the rest...

about the demo... it don't know what level it is... but i have played through the full game, and it's the best i've played (in it's genre) since Giants.

It is one of the most humoristic games i ever played, the cutscenes and characters are so well made.

I really hope for a sequel or addonpack.
