El PitI doubt that AC- or CoD-fans backed this, but Wing Comannder fans did. So how about sticking to the vision of making a great sequel to Wing Commander/Starlancer?
You're right. Most AC or COD fans would not back this game. That's why I did - so that it could be made and perhaps a new generation of gamers could get a chance to play an immersive space sim.
I have also enjoyed the community videos etc. and already feel I have received significant value for my pledge to date.
REALLY?! I gave CIG money for a game, not to make videos about making a game. I know and respect this as a bonus for fans, but it in no way makes me feel like have received ANY value for my pledge FOR A GAME
My subscription ($20/month) pays for the community content-and yes I think I get my money's worth.
QuboidReally? How much have you spent and what exactly have you received? Also, why did you have to choose between Star Citizen, Assassin's Creed or COD?
I have diverted monies that may have gone to AC XXX or to COD N+1 to Star Citizen - which is my prerogative. My pledge amount is really none of your business, but I give more to charity than I do to SC if that helps allay your concerns about my money.
dsmartYes, but they were never billed as being developed for the masses. And that hasn't changed since the first game.
Absolutely-and I admire your adherence to your vision.
This is the sort of thing that really irks me. People see all this crap online, not getting the context, then try to form an opinion based on third-party tainted information. Whatever.
I wrote an entire blog about it last month.
The fact is that I simply don't let people get away with harassing and/or bullying me. It's really the long and short of it. No exceptions.
Derek, I have read your posts on Usenet, Quarter to Three, PlanetCrap, Something Awful, Steam etc. in their entirety and with all of the context. True, there are a lot of idiots that go after you, but you are not a very nice guy to people that disagree with you or question some of your assertions. My opinion on this really does not matter, but I don't like boorish behaviour and you demonstrate that on a regular basis. Hence, my decision to no longer purchase or play your games. No exceptions.
You're still young, aren't you?
I am pretty much your age.
I am thrilled that this medium is being pushed forward after a few years where the only innovation seemed to be indie platformers. The revival of X-Com, Torment, Fallout, Elite etc. has revitalized my interest and investment in the PC as a gaming platform.
Star Citizen could be an absolute flop, but I am still happy to be a part of whatever the hell it turns out to be. This project has kindled the same excitement I felt when I played Elite as a ten year old - more than worth my pledge.
Others may feel betrayed or disappointed by SC's development path, but just because others (like me) do not does not mean there is a need to attack or belittle by using terms like White Knights and trolls. It just dumbs down the conversation.
After all, it's just a game guys
The CRTC needs to be destroyed.
