I don't see why you'd be at the jumping part in the bay with the exhaust flames while still being attacked? You finish those little guys off before doing that. Then after passing through the 3 jumps and a little further, some more come at you. Also, I read you can use the tricorder to find a weakness in a door in the docking bay, blast it open, and you find a panel to shut off the flames, and an extra item.

Those little guys surrounding you from every direction are fun to kill, especially with the shotgun. Let them get close enough and kaboom. The secondary fire lets you take out several from a distance.

Who said that, I for one didn't say it was going to be a HL2 or Doom3, who said it was?

Can't someone say a game is good without someone saying, "it's not as good as this!" Especially if they are comparing it to a game that is 4 months or more away.

EL2 is better than most, probably better than Unreal2 (even if the graphics are not as good) Tron 2.0 also looks like a keeper.

HL2 is good, but don't expect it to be a HL3 or Doom4, cause it aint.

I think you can't say that graphics arn't unimportant with every game. They don't have to be amazing, but there has to be a standard, you don't want to play a game with heads made of enough polys to make a cube with blurry textures.

As long as it gets its job done for the game with setting the atmosphere and give some creditability to the world your playing in.

I guess the problem with games is that if it has really great graphics, it must have equally as good story and gameplay. That's not always true, but you can't say most budget games or games with subpar graphics are any better. You usually have a better shot with games that have better graphics. You also get spoiled with games that are great looking, so you don't give anything else a chance unless it beats the last level of graphics.

There hasn't been a revolutionary games in a while, nothing but the same old, so what most are looking for are better graphics to hopefully breath new life into the same formula. Without new graphics or eyecandy, the games aren't anything really new.

Though EF2 is with the Quake3 engine, it still gets the job done. Good models, high res textures, weapon effects, animations, etc. But the game was damn fun in the demo, kind of refreshing. It also ran really smooth.

I see no need for this game to have Doom 3 or other upcoming games' graphics (At least it coming out months before any of the next generation games, or it would be in trouble). Right now it gets by with its own merits in gameplay and feel, but I still think the graphics are high quality.

With HL2 coming to the xBox, how was that version of Halflife that came out on the PS2 a while back, I never checked it out. Besides the enhanced models was there much different?

They'd be using Photoshop too, and all the other Adobe products. You make it sound like they don't have it for Macs.

I think that the soldier that gets speared is scripted, but was put there to let you know what would happen if you got too close to those things. I pretty sure though that you might be able to shoot him first and he might shoot back but then he'd get it.

"POST 81: I've watched 7 of the nine movies from Gamespot. Two of the links didn't work. Man, When can we see the high rez videos? The game looks amazing, but the video quality is ass."

Did you try the 200mb zip download I recently posted a link to? They are better than the streaming ones and are in quicktime format.

They'll need to do something extraordinary to the box to show how great of a game that is inside of it. Or maybe they can package it with a full size Half-Life crowbar replica

I got that link from off a forum at Rage3D.com. It's mainly a ATI fan site, but it's still got really populated forums just for pc gaming and console games.

Here the thread I got the link off of. You'll even find a post with a way to watch each of the streaming videos for half-life from gamespot for free.

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33685622&perpage=20&pagenumber=1

The beginings of the thead (the first page of 4) might have broken links since they were posted earley in the day. Check out the other pages for more good stuff.

Here's the link to all the topics and categories at this forum if you want to take a look at what else they have.

Holy... this game can't be real, but it is. I just watched the 6 quicktime movies ranging from 30-50megs that someone hosted in a zip file.

The first one shows some physics test, so they weren't real levels. Simply amazing. First that was a wooden plateform over water. Gorden fires at one of it's supports and it splits where it was hit and then as it tips over and falls into the water, barrels on top slide or roll off. The barrels start sinking while the wood floats realisticly.

Then there was a blockaid made up by a wooden frame with boards in the center. Each shot split at where it was hit and it effected the whole structure. Then it completely collapses leaveing part of the frame sticking up like a triangle. One shot took off a piece near the bottom and it fell.

Then there seems to be another gun similar to the gravity gun, but more like star trek's tractor beam. It grabbed a mattress and dragged it into the air fast over the water and it bent and flexed just like a real mattres and when the player stopped it in the air it showed inertia. It would also form around anything it was dropped on. Then a pot shattered and flew back and a watermelon split apart by gunshots. The tractor gun picked up a body by the foot swung it around like a rag doll.

The other videos were equally amazing.

Here's the link: (Note it took me 20 right click and saves before it actually paused for 10 seconds "WITHOUT" giving me a failed message and THEN finally a save screen came up and I was dling it at 150k a sec) File size is 211megs

Geez, why do people have to bring up xbox exclusive crap just because the xBox display had a press conference showing Doom III with screenshots that no way were taken from the xbox and the video shows stuff from the alpha e3 from last year at some parts, so it didn't come off an xbox, they're just showing what's to come. If they did make an agreement to have it on the xbox, you damn bet they'd be playing it up at e3 and elsewhere to improve the status of the xbox.

I'm not angry or anything, but your whole post nearly focused just on getting a demo a couple days earley. But I find that when it's released everywhere, especially if it's a popular game, most free faster servers can get bogged down for the day.

I'm just saying that paying a little a year so that you can dl a demo right away on a server that isn't being overrun doesn't really feel like I am being ripped off. I'm still not doing it at the moment though.

But places like 3Dgamers nowadays when a demo comes out, it's hard to get any fast dls from them. That's why I gave up on the Chaser demo.

You have to agree that when a real popular demo is released that your not going to usually find a free site that isn't already overloaded. Then some kind people will upload the demo on their site for free and post a link in forums like here for gamers, but soon enough too many people know about that too.

Do you remember what happened when 3D Mark 2003 was released, all hell broke loose.

Your missing the point of paying. If I was a memeber to fileplanet or gamespot when the chaser demo came out or other demoes, I would have been dling it at full speed on their fast servers that I am helping to pay for. Instead I found that most public places were overloaded where it was so busy it took a while to get a spot and then it was only going at 18k and getting slower, so I gave up. It cost money to provide the best and gauranteed fast dls.

Also, fileplanet gets demos sometimes a couple days before anyone else. Gamespot has a lot of exclusive videos too.

I'm not paying paying for any service right now, but it sounds worth it. I mean it's NOT like Gamespot is $10 a month, it's only 24.95 a year, that's only 2 dollars a month. That's worth the fast access to demos a exclusive videos or their video reviews.

Also, BLuesnews often links news to other sites, like to Gamespot, IGN, Gamespy, so I bet if none of the more larger sites existed, bluesnews would be a little more empty, or he'd then have to start hosting all the news, like screens, videos, and demos and then you'd see a lot more adds to pay for it and fee for exclusive fast servers.

If you get black textures, turn off vertex lighting, that causes it.

I found this game a lot better than the Unreal 2 demo. You actually felt like you were hitting something, even the walls. I didn't like unreal 2 where 80% of the time you could fire at a wall 3 feet from you and see no effect of it hitting it.

The bug creatures seemed interesting. The way they fly in with jets as part of their body and then use them to charge at you. Even cooler are those big guys in the second level that are huge and roll in. The mini boss at the end was fun too.

I also feel they give just the right amount of health here and there, so I felt sometimes I needed to be careful and watch my ammo. Even with full health, if your not on yur toes you can be overwhelmed quickly.

The tricorder puzzel was interesting too. It's not really hard, but at first you don't get any instructions. I'm interested as what else they have in use for it.

I thought the weapons were nice enough. I really didn't find it neccessary to look at them hard, but I could tell what was what by the design. The Federation weapons are more simple, but they have detailed animated displays. The weapons also have secondary firing options. That alien weapon is pretty cool, not so much for it's main ammo, but the gas cloud it can makes where you ignite it with a shot is pretty cool.

I also found the deaths and animations nice. Fighting those little guys in the beginging was fun. When I played the Unreal2 demo, seconds after I kill something the body would sink through the floor with little effect. It happened so fast you never could take a look at what you shot. In Elite Force 2, the creatures texture changes and animates while the geometry starts moving around as it decomposses and then poof, it explodes. Pretty cool effect.

The aliens looked nice, cool the way their eyes blinked.

I'm happy with this game and it looks good. And ran great at 1280*1024 with everything maxed out at 4x AA and 8x AF.

I don't think it's too bad. I'm guessing that the first two cds will be for installing (named installation disc 1 and 2)

And the other CDs will be labeled 1-4. You'll play through 25% of the game with cd 1. Then at 26% it will ask you for disc 2 and so on.

So it's not like your going to change the CDs every 30 minutes. Just four times through the game. And when you go and play the game later, just put the numbered cd in that your were on.

It's just like the PS1 Final Fantasy games. But they had to put duplicate game data on each of those CDs along with the FMV.

So that's how I think it will play out. Hell, it's nothing like how the Myst games are. Like in the sequel Riven, you changed the CD everytime you went from one Island to the next, so you could be changing the CD many times withen an hour.

So this whole thing with 6 cds is not that bad. Yes it would be nice if it was on DVD. But like I said, it's not bad enough to alienate customers who don't have DVD drives.

The original Matrix was released on DVD probably because it was the only way to release it at the best quality and features. So getting a DVD player wasn't as bad. But for the game, releasing it on CDs does not effect the quality of the game compared to it on a DVD, it's just data.

The price, if it did cost 3 dollars more for the CDs, I would then think they'd just sell the game still for $50 and whatever their profit was it would be 3 dollars less, 49.95 looks a lot more attractive to customers than 52.95. Seeing a 4 at the front is much more appealing than a 5, even though there's almost no difference.

Do I make any sense?

I never watched the whole thing, but I found the idea interesting and made it worth watching from where I had started.

It's like how the Matrix was. Either you liked the concept, which makes the film good in your eyes even if the movie itself isn't all that great, or you don't, which then makes the film nothing special in their eyes. Some people say it wasn't really a great film, yet other people think it was great. I find that I like it a lot because of the idea of the matrix.

So if your are not into computers or intrigued about the story line in Tron, you probably won't enjoy the movie compared to someone who likes the idea.

It's hard for me to put my thoughts to words, I'm just trying to say that even if a film is mediocre, if you think the idea around it is interesting and different, you'll find it more enjoyable compared to those who can care less about the premise.
