Well might as well ask here... Does anyone know any possible workaround for massive continuous lag? That is, besides opening router ports? Only one of my buddies bought BF3 and he basically can't play cause he suffers what would amount to like 2000 ms ping at all times even tho BF displays only around 50 ping for him...

If he is using an AMD crossfire setup, try disabling crossfire.

I've tried many driver revisions and with crossfire enabled I get terrible pauses for seconds at a time in multiplayer. Works great on a single card thankfully.

Wake Island is one of my favourite maps. If you're surrounded by tanks grab an engineering kit or get C4 for your support class and blow the mofos to hell

It does help if you have peeps on your team that can fly and know to defend flags that spawn armour. If your opponent controls the air and the armour, it's a tough fight.

Admittedly I have not played MW3. I have played prior CoD games inncluding MW2 and was underwhelmed enough to completely avoid the EPs for it. I read a lot about it and with a crowded plate already, passing on MW3 was an easy decision for me.

Sorta like the music in the 1970s. Disco was the king of pop music but I never bought any Beegees (CoD) and bought a lot of Scorpions (BF) \m/

I too dispute that "core" gamers love it, but it depends on the definition. My friends bought Deus Ex, BF3, and Skyrim; not a one bought MW3. (I guess we're just bucking the trend boys ). Mainstream gaming rags lost credibility over a decade ago in my view; how does having an army of sycophants prove "Core gamers love it"? Unless you are talking about hardcore fans, to which I have no doubt they love anything and everything you shovel their way.

Activision will kill Blizzard, although it will be a slow process. Much like Asheron's Call and EQ do still today, WoW will always have people playing it, but you know they've lost a lot of people in the last number of months, and I predict that trend will continue. Here's some advice from one Bob to another: take the wasted cash from your TV ad campaign and put it into making better content for your sickly money tree. That thing needs more fertilizer, you know, like at launch, or TBC. Then your tree will flourish again.

Then again, perhaps the creative genius that once was is no more.....

While I don't think I could play Skyrim like that, it's still extremely cool.

All he's missing is a suit of light armour and some other props.

Do it on a PC with multiple monitors for maximum effect!

Seems to work pretty good in Skyrim, so far at least.

BF3 otoh, I still have to disable it.

As Finga noted, this is for Crossfire.

In my experience at least, all of the recent new games work just fine with any of the recent driver revisions from AMD....on a single GPU. It's when I try to use crossfire that I run into trouble.

I hadn't had a multi-GPU set up since the Voodoo 2 days. I was reluctant to try Crossfire but I had some extra dough kickin around last year so bought another card. I doubt that I will go with multi-gpu solutions in the future, as in my experience it is just not worth the headaches and expense.

My sub runs out in early January; I was hoping to try out the raid finder, but found out yesterday it's only for one raid and you have to grind firelands gear in 3 dungeons to meet the gear level requirement.

No thanks.

The thought occurs that, these days, hype is as good at selling a game as that game's actual content. Skyrim sold respectably on the PC, which is saying something, and I don't think it did so because people were watching gameplay videos and reading reviews. It's the hype that did it.

Not just these days, snakeoil sales pitches have been a large part of selling gaming software as far as I can remember (20yrs?). However I do believe that today it is easier to find out if a game sucks or not before you buy it.

People get wary after a while. Ubisoft has a track record of selling half-baked goods and quickly dropping any after release support. People might put up with this for a game they "must have" but odds are they won't buy any other prodcts from that company.

Years ago I used to pre-order every game I was even remotely interested in. A few dozen coasters later and I learned my lesson

Gamers have become smarter consumers. If the company was pushing crap and relying on hype and marketing to move it, their bottom line will have steadily dropped over the past number of years.

I think in Skyrim's case there are many other important factors however. For example, it is building on an already well established franchise (going back to TES: Arena) so people have a fair idea what to expect even outside the hype.

Yea pretty much the consolers have been holding back dev studios from pushing the boundaries of what can be done. I hope eventually they will just fade away back to hand helds where they belong.

I bought a used 360 for $75 so I could play NHL11. Hooked it up to my 1920x1200 monitor.

The thing can't do hi-res modes without dropping frames, especially when the puck is in your end. I also noticed that player's faces become generic and fuzzy during game play and are only detailed between plays; an effort to increase performance I presume.

Then there are the mods.....oh wait, there are none!

Anyway, best head down to the mall and pick up my copy of PC Skyrim

I'll just leave this here....

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3

128 reviews, and the game has been out 11 hours in the East Coast, less on the West?

And you don't think it isn't a bunch of people that think the term "Bobby NoDick" is clever spamming the forum because they have some odd gripe with a company with no true basis behind it?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. User score on metacritic is one of the most unreliable metrics out there. Don't know why anyone bothers to pay attention to them.

Actually I find some of them very useful, and for me at least, reliable.

Sure there's a lot of trash in there, but many times I've read detailed, accurate, and justified criticisms. There may be a certain feature or element that might put me off, and I can find out about it there. It's fairly easy to seperate the wheat from the chaff so to speak, so for me it's a great tool.

As for MW3, 2 never held my attention, so I'm not too interested in this one, especially with BF3 now and Skyrim in a couple days.

Up until last month I'd been a WoW subscriber from launch, and was able to participate in the beta. That was what, 7 years ago? That's not bad legs for a game, but at some point one gets tired of the mechanics, lore, art, etc. In the end I was only playing because my wife does and not that often as I had a stack of unplayed games I suddenly realized needed my attention (and boy did I almost miss out on some good stuff).

Funny thing though, I cancelled my sub the day before the MoP announcement, and when I saw it I thought "perfect timing". The wife is not impressed with the planned expansion either, which is okay because she is getting into other games. Skyrim hooooo........!!!

The problem I have is that they will take my information from my machine and my actions and sell it. They are willing to commodify my existence without giving me a cut of financial gain or the opportunity to say "no don't do that" without wrapping it up in legalese in tiny print on page 103 of a EULA.

That is just treating me the customer like shit.

It sucks. I am not pork bellies nor some stock to be traded in for cash or service. I am a human, and I want the right to control how other legal fictions (corporations) make money off of me or trade in my identity.

This is not complicated.

This really struck a chord with me.......and I have to say, I agree.

These drivers have crossfire issues... when I boot Win7 to desktop, GPU1 is downclocked while GPU2 is running at full speed. When I first start Battlefield 3, both GPUs are at full speed, but after awhile, my frame rate take a nose dive and again GPU1 is downclocked while GPU2 is still at full speed.

I haven't tested this but I'm still having the same crossfire issue with BF3. It will start off good then all it takes is an explosion or something and the frame rate tanks. Works well enough with a single card but I'm looking for some performance gains to turn up the eye candy.

A mini-stroke is a good way to put it, however TIAs are usually (but not always) due to small vessel disease.

I suspect he has an atrial septal defect (more common) vs a ventricular septal defect (less common). Either way, if that is indicated as the cause, he probably threw a clot.

Normally a clot in the venous system goes to the lungs first (pulmonary embolus) but with a septal defect it can go into the arterial side and from there to any of the major organs of the body. I believe the mere presence of a septal defect can cause clot formaiton due to the abnormal flow of blood, but it's been a while......I could be mistaken.

Anyway, glad he doesn't appear to have any serious sequelae from it.

Ya, missed CoD in the name...sorry!

Indeed, I still play IL2 '46; best WW2 sim to date despite a lacklustre campaign mode. I know at least one patch came out for Il2CoD, but from what my bud tells me frame rates are still horrid. He also says he never sees anyone playing on line.

For biplanes I'm into Rise of Flight. They've added a career mode that I'm checking out. Georgeous sim but needs lots-o-powah for max settings. Thing is, you can turn it down a bit and get silky smooth performance, even over cities, in dogfights, etc, which apparently isn't possible in CoD.

Like the title says, if you want to fight piracy, make better games.

Silent Hunter 5 was the last purchase of an Ubisoft game I will make. The DRM was bad enough but to release the game in the state it was in and then abandon it......

....and this isn't the first time they've done this (it is the last time they do it to me however).

I know it won't be the last time Ubi pulls this shit. As much as I had been waiting for IL2, I did not purchase it. Well what do you know, a friend of mine did and.....yes another steaming pile of bugs and crappy performance.

Make better games, treat your customers right, and maybe you'll win some back. The rate they're going now I suspect they will end up having to abandon the PC as a platform.....and I suspect they'll be bitchin and moanin about piracy on consoles next.

What a bunch of dough-heads.....

considering I bought Daggerfall back in the day for $120, and PC titles have generally stayed around $40-$60 over the past 10 or 15 years, I don't see that as too much for this game.

I bought a hard copy from the local brick and mortar, not only to support them, but I also got tired of the "steam is too busy so you can't download the $60 game you just bought" BS. Yes I did try other d/l centres.

Steam is okay, but it's not ideal. So go ahead and add me to your A(sshole)-list
