Sick of level treadmills......

The only reason to withold information is so you have to play longer which means you have to keep subscribing.

Why don't they make a MMORPG more similar to conventional RPGs? What is so wrong with rewarding the player(s) and allowing advancement at a brisk pace? (Apparently Shadowbane implements this<?>) Kick the marketing guys in the nads. So what if some peeps finish in two months. Many more would take longer, and hey, dish out an expansion or two. After a couple/few years it's time to move on to something new anyway.

There exists a small but vocal group of negativists, hatemongers, and trolls. Yesterday (and ongoing, just currently out of the spotlight) it was MS, EA, Ubi, et al; Valve just happens to be the target of the day because they're in the buzz.

3 things lead to theft: Greed, Envy, Malice.

Am I pissed? Yup. Do I blame Valve? Nope. I blame the sorry asses who at some point in their lives went astray and think it's ok to steal.

Hopefully we get the tools to make our own perhaps.....but now the thought just struck me of the recently released "dedicated" server, so maybe not

With a title like "UFO:Aftermath" it invites comparison. I checked out the website a few times because I am interested in it. It states they drew inspiration from the XCom series, but that yes, it is a different game. The question that I have; is it a good game?

Demo please

A really "cheezy" post I must say

"Ever since you tried to Dis on nvidia...."

Valve doesn't need to dis nVidia, their own PR department is doing a great job of making them look inept.

"So get off your high horse mr gabe and just grow up and stop acting like a child..."

Practice what you preach.

"btw HL is not that great..."

You didn't play too many FPS on the PC before HL, did you? NOLF, Deus Ex, et al came out long after HL did. How long have you been gaming on PCs?

"...but you keep thinking your fat ass is cool ok .
you make bill gates look handsome lol"

The internet may be "anonymous", but you make it too easy to see that you're just a kid (regardless of biological age).

Oh, and I believe it's "Xanax". I think I see why you have a Rx.

I will reiterate that some here need to acquire a higher level of morals and values, nevermind maturity. You don't deserve to be called a "gamer" and please don't lump me in with your "gaming community", I want no part of it.

I spent $70 years ago on a game that still provides me with entertainment today. Maybe I'm lucky in that I've had very few problems with steam (I never played opfor until I installed it, bonus). There are only a few gems in my collection, going back over 20+ years of gaming, that I still play regularly today, and half-life is one of them.

These people have busted their asses for years to provide us with hours of entertainment, and this is how they get thanked. If you can somehow justify this theft to yourself, I'd recommend counselling and group therapy. You have some serious issues.

beancounter number one (BC1): I have a great idea to estimate how many units we'll move and generate some cash flow!

BC2: Really? How's that?

BC1: When did you say the game would be ready?

BC2: Sometime in the fall or, more likely, closer to the holidays.

BC1: Okay; we'll generate some hype, give them a firm release date of Sept.30. We've kept it under wraps thus far, it'll look awesome!

BC2: I don't think we can make that date...

BC1: So what! Think of the pre-orders!

I'm not really that cynical

I took US history as an arts option while in university (even though i.am.cdn), but that was over 10 years ago, so I wasn't sure.

Back on topic: I don't think there's anything wrong with being a fan of a particular hardware vendor ( or cars, stereo equipment, etc.), as long as you don't let that cloud your judgement, which it can and often does.

I like to question things, and like to explore dissenting opinions. It often changes my mind about things (to varying degrees of course). Good debate is healthy. GOOD debate, not mud-slinging.

Have a great weekend all

"speak softly and carry a big stick".

I thought Theodore Roosevelt coined this term to describe American foreign policy while he was president(?)

I've been around for a wee bit; owned a voodoo, V2 SLI, V3, then switched to GeForce 2 GTS, GeForce 3 Ti500, and then GeForce 4 Ti4200 128Mb.

I have been happy with all of these products. Yesterday, I bought an ATI 9800 for $400Cdn. For another $100 I could of bought the 9800 Pro and gained an extra 10%, or for a whopping $700 (and that's my dealer's cost, never mind his pointage) I could get an Ultra FX. I could afford it, but why throw money away? In 6-12 months something else will be here.

Quite frankly, I'm done with the bleeding edge. It's not worth the money. I'm relegating my Athlon 2400XP+ to my secondary rig as I've also purchased an intel P4 2.4 for $250Cdn which runs very nicely at 3Ghz. So nice, it blows the doors off of it and even bests an o/c Barton in il2.

No brand loyalty here. Give me the best price/performance/compatability ratio =)

>"Would you people PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, stop comparing HL-2 to Team Fortress 2!"

A comparison is entirely valid. Valve said TF2 would be done many times, it was also shown at more than one E3, and where is it?. So now because this is HL2 I'm supposed to forget about this?

>"Cool your jets. 'sides, the holidays aren't THAT far off, and I'll have a week off from work to actually enjoy the game."

I'm not concerned about when it will be released, rather if it will be released. I'd say the odds right now are pretty good, yet for me lingering doubts remain.

How many release dates did Team Fortress 2 miss?

It was shown at E3, impressive (at the time) screens released, numerous previews, and then nothing.

I'll believe HL2 is out when I see it.

#11: "...and makes pot legal."

They're not making it legal, rather they are decriminalizing it. An example possession of open liquor in a vehicle. Illegal but not a criminal offence.

I hope you're incorrect. I've played the demo and the only thing stopping me from purchasing is I'd get killed on the exchange rate and duty. If it is sold at retail I can avoid this.

I started going to VE way back when I got my first voodoo card and Blue's shortly thereafter.

VE has been sliding for a while now, but I think this is the final nail. A real shame to see an icon from the early days go *poof*.

Blue's has always been a great site and, for me at least, provides the type of info that I'm looking for. Now instead of 2, there are 1.
