Unfortunately, these games require you to dedicate 400+ hours of grinding away at womp rats just so you can afford a run-down garbage scow.

That is basically it in a nutshell.

I notice most of the people whining about the game are the ones posting. You want everything handed to you the day you sign up. Get real.

For my $70Cdn for the box/CD as well as $100Cdn subscription fee I expect a hell of a lot more than the priveledge of having to run out in the middle of nowhere to pay maintenance on a harvester and make sure the resource hasn't dried up. I expect the game to be fun from the get-go, not a dreary exercise in repetition. But then most of these types of games excel at placing barriers in front of players; compare the reward systems of MMOGs to "single" player RPGs. Let's shake that money tree.

I've played on some fine NwN persistent world servers. The game kept my interest despite max lvling many characters because there were so many combos and an impressive aamount of community content; and I didn't have to pay a monthly fee. What about Guild Wars? I haven't tried it, in fact I know little about it, but I see there is no monthly fee. So it can be done.

You're right, there does need to be more themes than just fantasy, but the fact this game is Star Wars, for me, doesn't make it any less a dog. Perhaps I'm a little too cynical, but there's no way I'm going to give Sony more of my cash to see if they've fixed this game. I have plenty of other great games to play

I signed up for 6 months but didn't use the last 3. No way in hell I'd go back, even if I could be Vader himself. Waste of time and money; wretched game.

This game rocks and is easily worth $49.99. Haven't played BF:V since I got it.

9800pro on a P4 3.2 with a gig o' ram and no problems.

I wasn't really interested in this title until I played the demo for a few days and it sold me on the full version. Well worth the $50 Cdn. and have now totally forgotten about BF:V.

I still like doom/2. I fired it up a couple of months ago with one of those kits that adds openGL and jump support (I think it was Z-doom or something like that). Brought back a lot of old memories =) Anyone ever play the H2H MUD levels?

Q1 got me into gaming online versus real human opponents and of course TF. Combing the hours I spent playing Q1/2 online; well suffice to say these guys have more than provided me with my money's worth over the years.

I gave up on ever expecting to see this game on shelves 3 years ago. Into the same dustbin of history as such vapourware classics as Monster Island and Justice League of America.

These threads are still good for a laugh tho'

I was looking forward to this game, but after reading the Gamespot and Gamespy reviews, I'm not so sure anymore.

Clearly numerous issues exist despite the high scores. The reviewers gave high scores to the story, the missions, the AI, and the atmosphere of the game. "The City" appears mediocre. Inconsistent AI, weird animations, laggy controls, questionable GFX despite steep sysreqs, small levels, and frequent loads are listed as negatives.

Guess I'll wait and read some more.....

Doesn't the ApeXtreme already do this without monthly fees and add DVD to boot?

Not that I'd have one anyway, but it seems to me it's already been done and done better (?)

It makes me think of Frank Herbert's The White Plague and Khan's "genetically superior intellect".

Yup, no question there, Far Cry has amazing graphics.

I wasn't expecting a whole lot from BF:V re: graphics, in fact I though they would be on par with 1942's, so I guess I didn't have high expectations. The game is fun, but we'll see if it can hold my attention for 2 years like 1942 did.

As I mentioned, no crashes (yet), but much like with 1942, if you get on a server with over 38 or so players, server side lag seems to be an issue. At least I think it's server side as my ping is indicated to be <100 and I get the old one step forward 2 steps back routine on servers with a higher player capacity.

I picked up the game yesterday and played for 6 hours with no crashes (?).

I too am an avid BF:1942 player, and while this is the same game in a different setting, I find the increased mobility adds a new slant on it.

Far Cry does not provide the same online experience.

So far I love Far Cry, but I haven't finished it, so I'll reserve judgement (although it sounds like I've got some frustration ahead )

Consoles? I gave them up in the days of Sega Genesis and to date see no reason why I should pick up another; but to each his own.

Apologies for the delay in my reply. Good to see that I've "rocked the boat" a little

Or how about making an intelligent response instead of just being a worthless troll?

Perhaps if there was something intelligent in your post to begin with I might provide you with the same courtesy. As it is, your post is just another "Fuck <insert big-name publisher name here>", so it appears I'm feeding the trolls; sorry.

Ok then, let's address your assertions: BF:1942 has just 2 patches? I don't think so; go count them. How about NHL2004? At least 2 patches and 3 roster updates so far. GPG assimilated by EA? Only if they didn't do their contract homework. I suggest GPG would have big issues with making nothing more than a C&C clone, but it's up to them to protect their intellectual property.

Quite frankly, I find your assertions absurd with no basis in fact.

Tell me, how is EA any different than Ubi, MS, Vivendi, et al? No, I don't buy bad or incomplete games. I wait for reviews, demos, and word of mouth before I make a purchase, so I do in fact vote with my dollars. Looking at the EA games I've purchased over 20+ years (sorry to disappoint, no Sims), by far the majority are good if not great. I can't say I've had a lot of experience with their tech support, as I've never had the need to use it.

For someone who is apparently intimately familiar with the anal landscape, perhaps you should worry about leaving your own stinky cavern first. Or maybe your nose deep in EA's moist folds. You seem to be the expert. Let us know which.

I have an MD degree so I know a great deal about the GI tract actually. I also know people who work at EA Canada and have toured their studios. Stellar place if I do say so.

Stinky cavern eh? Sounds like the voice of experience to me

Because it's easy to see what EA does to games they publish. Push them out way before they're ready, patch them twice and cut them loose. EA's also famous for how much they curtail creative freedom at developers. This is not good at all. If you want to see Total Annihilation look and act just like Command & Conquer, then maybe you won't mind this.

Get your head out of your ass and get a grip on reality.

Yup, nothing like a little scaremongering to stir up the daytime talk-show moms.

I really don't understand why so many people seem to think that games are the sole realm of children. I've been playing "videogames" in one form or another for over 28 years now

seriously shocking news given the deplorable state in which SH2 and DC were released. If it wasn't for Neil and the gang at subsim.com they still wouldn't work.

So if Steam was to blame, why did they pull the plug on all of the other events? CoD, UT, etc?
