I skipped the directx setup as I thought I had the latest and the greatest. Went to fire up the game and got a dx9 dll error. I ran directx setup from the CD, and voila, no problem. x800xt pe

Canned missions suck; they're only good for one go around, then you know exactly what's going to happen. Gee, that's tactically stimulating.

Falcon is still the definitive modern air combat sim. I just wish Oleg could put a campaign like this into Il2. Here's to hoping for Battle of Britain, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Q4 runs better on my machine than Doom 3 did (P4 3Ghz, a gig of ram, X800XT PE). I haven't done a FPS count but I'm playing at 1024x768 with max detail and 4x AA without any noticable hiccups or pauses. Doom 3 I'd have hiccups in large firefights with these settings. I haven't played D3 in so long though I couldn't tell you if it's the game or new drivers.

I noticed the crashed pod, and also the references to taking out the boss from Q2. Brings me back too

I love this game. Why? My girlfriend loves it and it made getting her to play WoW a really easy sell

I stopped in at the local EB on he way home from work. The CE is $105Cdn and the regular version is $65. I don't need a DVD or Q2 that bad! (I still have Q2 kickin' around here somewhere).

I can't claim that I know Carmack or Romero on a personal level but I have noted this: since Romero left iD they've become known as a dev that makes great game engines but are sorely lacking in the gameplay department.

Imo Warren Spector bombed on Deus Ex 2 on many fronts. Does that mean I've written him off for good? No.

Isn't this game ancient?

The copyright date on the CD sleeve sez 2000. I never did get the expansion.

The problem I have with intelligent design is it attributes life on this planet to some "being" who designed it, rather than offer a simple, elegant, and logical explanation that has weight of physical evidence (fossil record and DNA for eg.) to support it.

In essence ID adds more, untestable, complexity to the argument. You cannot apply scientific method to a "god" or some unobservable omnipotent being.

A couple years ago I read an artcle linked from here that warned of the gap between the advancement of science and the scientific knowledge of the average joe in Western democracies. After awhile science becomes FM: Fucking Magic.

I played AC for about 4 years. A lot of my guildmates tried AC2 and came back with bad news, so I never bothered with it. My understanding is, as others have mentioned, it's a completely different game outside of the lore.

AC is not a crappy game. It's got a pretty cool ruleset actually, at least imo

Fantasy/scifi novels and RPGs have had teasingly attired females since I can remember. I would find it odd to find a female elf in a business suit in any hard fantasy, be it novels, PnP RPGs, or video games.

I would also like to point out that men are often portrayed in a similar fashion. Hulky he-men with little but a loin cloth

I hope this deals with the apparent rabid ganking that's happened since the one-sided honor system came out.

I don't think that'll happen until some schema for dishonor is implemented. In the meantime, I've shelved my toons on Kel'Thuzad and switched to a PVE server until they fix it. It gets old getting ganked by "??" level characters over and over.

What other publisher out there has released a sim in the last few years? Ubi developed one in house (SH3).

On the topic of greed: corporations exist to make money. Don't blame the players, they're playing by the rules. Blame the game, namely capitalism, that they're all playing. In Capitalism, it's okay to screw everyone except the government, so long as you can justify it with profit.

I don't know....

I think there will always be programmers and engineers who are into games. These are the people who have and continue to bring new ideas and concepts to the industry. I don't think they're going to go away.

Switched homepage to Blue's when VE went down the tubes.

In all fairness, VE had lost most of it's edge by the time IGN bought them out. I think the slide was accelerated by the buyout and in the end it was simply the nail in the coffin.

I've purchased games I was otherwise not very interested in because of free, easily accessible demos (for eg. Joint Ops and BF1942). If I have to wait in line or pay for access then I wont bother and there's one less sale. Take note any bean-counters reading (ya right).

Remember however I know im in the minority here cause everyone and thier mother is playing this game , its like the "MYST" or "Sim's" of MMORPGs, not for the hardcore.

You're being sarcastic right?

Cheese, we're already aware you don't like WoW; there's no point in dwelling on it anymore. You don't like it, move along.
