As much as I hate to admit it, I'm going to have to try reducing the difficulty.

I did the first gate at lvl 19 (custom class, mostly warrior but some resto). I barely made it through by mustering every potion of healing I could find. By the time I got out, I leveled twice. I was therefore confident of lifting the seige of Kvatch.

However, upon entering the town, the 2 guards proceed to aggro everything in sight, then die or go unconcious, and there I am surrounded by about 8 or 10 daedra and company. Talk about a piss off. I was really enamoured with this game until I reached this point.

Can someone please explain to me what the fuck you're supposed to do there? And how you can even influence anything? All I see is that you click in each quadrant of that circle, and usually the NPC's total number goes down. What's the fucking point?

If you hover your mouse over a quadrant before clicking, you'll see the NPCs facial expression change. Simply pick small "pies" for the quadrants the NPC dislikes/hates, and large ones for like/love

If you're an apprentice in speechcraft you get one free rotate.

Hope this helps =)

Got it after work yesterday, have the next 3 days off =)

I played until 3AM, awoke at 8:30AM, started playing again. Just taking a break for a bit to eat and stretch. Great game!

Yes the interface is consolish and it has been dumbed down a bit (light and medium armours now both light, everything else heavy, the aforementioned change in the skills structure, as examples), but almost everything else is an improvement. The gameplay is a lot smoother, especially the combat.

My biggest gripe: the map should be resizable like in MW as it's way to small for me.

P4 3.2 with 2gigs ram X800XT PE and it looks and runs great. I've had 2 crashes when exiting the game, that's it.

I have no issues with including physics processing onboard, but they're including proprietarty technology. Now there's a good chance that ATI includes a totally different stanadard. Now we have fragmentation.

Just what we need, another Glide.

MOO and MOM were designed by Steve Barcia, not Bruce Shelley. Wikipedia says Shelley worked on Railroad Tycoon, Covert Action, and Civilization while at Microprose.

Right you are. Now is it because SimTex still owns the rights?

Notice it just mentions Sid's games and a few simulations. No MOO, MOM, or X-COM.

MOO and MoM are Bruce Shelley games, is that why?

What ever happened to Bruce anyway?

I loved the first one, second and third by PopToP were good, hopefully this one rocks.

Edit: yes, the first is the best (so far).

I don't care for copy protection, and crack most of my legitimately purchased games so I don't have to swap discs.

Now I don't like Starfuck, but I also bought Silent Hunter 3 when it came out (and would have regardless of copyprot scheme) and haven't had any issues with it. In fact, go over to subsim.com forums and you'll find very few peeps had trouble, and the ones that did I've read some very positive remarks with respect to Starfuck's tech support. No way I'll stop playing SH3 because of Starfuck, although admittedly I do have my taxes and so on on another rig

Now I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but someone has to do it. So long as devs and pubs see piracy as an issue, this problem will come back, maybe not as Starfuck, but something similar. If you think this is over, well there's a Supertramp tune for ya called "Dreamer", have a listen

I think I may take a few of my vacation days once I get my hands on this sucker.

I still have a ti4200, it's in my second machine and plays WoW, CS:Source, and IL2 just fine, albeit at reduced detail and res (Athlon 2400XP+ 1G DDR). Handy when company comes over

I had an Avalon Hill board game by this name (it was actually called Panzer Command: Gateway to Stalingrad).

This looks a lot like Combat Mission, and as I have both Beyond Overlord and Barbarossa to Berlin, I don't feel compelled to check this out.

Conservatives will never stop trying.

You know, if they put all of the effort and resources into something useful....well the world would be a better place wouldn't it?

Might slip on my eye patch and AAAARRRRR me hearties.

Attitudes like this are the reason why I have to put with increasingly aggressive copy protection schemes like Starforce....Fukahz.....

It sounds like the software industry is similar in some ways to the construction industry.

When I finished high school I wasn't interested in more studying, and ended up becoming a sheet metal mechanic. This is a trade that one quite literally puts blood and sweat into, and when the project is done, so are you. As I was aware that this was the "nature of the game", I guess I didn't have preconceived notions in this respect, I just went from project to project.

Not being happy with the situation, I saved my pennies and went back to school for 8 years and now don't have to worry about crap like that.

Many who post on these boards love to bash on EA (fwiw I've only found one title of theirs in the past year or so worth buying, BF2), but these posts lead me to wonder if many of you realise that corporations like EA are but products of the capitalistic systems in which they operate, and in recent years, globalization.

If EA continues to pump out crap it will eventually show up on their bottom line, more lay offs will be sure to follow due to the downturn in revenues, and ultimately many in management may indeed find themselves out of work as a result. In the meantime, like any "good" corporation (Ford, GM, Telus, etc), they will continue to do as much as possible within (and sometimes outside of) the legal boundaries in which they operate to remain as competitive as possible.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if you don't like the system, try doing something constructive to change it. Vote in elections for candidates who have worker's rights in their platform, write your MP/Congressman, network with other people who share your ideas and beliefs. If enough people do this, change will happen.

I lost my licence a few months after I got it for stunting and speeding. The hazards of small towns are that everyone knows you At the time I as 16 and was not hanging out in the arcades very much given my new found 4 wheeled freedom (and I got bored of the intellivision we had). My need to explore the boundaries of physics was not induced by any video game, rather a need to determine the boundaries of physics and obtain an adrenaline rush.

Personal best? 255Km/h 1988 IROC-Z. There's a lot of straight long roads in Northern Alberta, but at that speed tiny little bumps become somewhat bigger.

I'm starting to think it's a conspiracy.

The different pirate groups usually compete to see who can crack a new title the fastest no? How often do they crack the subsequent patched versions? I would surmise not nearly as often.

So you leave some bugs in the game, release it, let the pirates brag (and have their bugged game) and then patch it for the real customers.

Far fetched?

I have an X800xT PE and have the full version of the game: no issues. Halsey is right: best Civ since Civ II. I haven't played it enough to know if it's the best Civ yet (my g/f has taken a shining to WoW)

It's good they put out a demo because a lof of civ fans felt burned by Civ 3 when it first came out. I know at least half a dozen of my friends who will not buy this version until they can try it first because of that.
