I got Mad Max a while back on another sale for $20, money well spent.

If it was anything like the last couple of NHL games they released on PC it was another bug-riddled mess and peeps were pissed. Add the minimal incremental improvements/features every year, and remove some beloved ones; presto, your sales tank.

I realise I may have taking this from one thing to a very different subject, though I don't think the links are far fetched (I can easily imaging people going "tinfoil hat time" while pointing at me here, I'd understand). There is no need for Bethesda to make a mod launcher any more capable than what they have in the past with their "Data Files" menu, anyone interested in applying mods will learn what's needed to apply the mods they want, it also comes at a time while mod monetisation has been on their minds which is a motive.

The moment this thing, this "mod manager", comes out linked to Steam and likely only Steam should be considered a flag waving. The mastermind behind it wouldn't be Bethesda but Valve, waving a cut of money infront of devs so they implement it and a cut infront of modders so they hopefully release their work exclusively on Steam. Going down this dark hypothetical road leads nowhere good for anyone but Valve, the sad thing is how many "gamers" would be chanting "Gaben" while running along it throwing money over the side.

Based on my experience with both of these companies (as someone already stated, Horse Armour!) I'd have to agree.

I love them both.

I get hundreds of hours of the ES and FO games. Looking forward to this one.

I gotta ponder tho', will they break with tradition and have a relatively bug free game?

I'm skeptical and this is the reason I usually wait to buy them.

Seems like more of a money grab than an effort to make a real BF game. Glad I passed on this one.

1942 was the best; looks like Dice/EA is either unable to repeat the magic or unwilling to.

BF1942 is one of the few games I played for years.

How long was it in between expansions? Time fades the memory but it had to be at least a year (?)

BF3s were accelerated and this really put me off as it seemed, as previously pointed out, like a cash grab ala COD. Add in EAs legendary piss poor support and I have no interest in this one as a result.

I'm always interested in a new sim but as others have pointed out this had nothing: no physics, scenery, traffic, flight plan...

To the person who designed this: if it was feature creep or an extremely limited budget, I feel for ya. If not, I have to ask how long exactly did you think people would enjoy flying around doing......nothing? New planes with no pits?!

Any other propheads out there might want to know that Rise of Flight is having a big sale until I think the 28th. While I prefer aircraft that are a little more modern it's probably the best flight sim out today.

My wife is in the beta; looks unimpressive and does not provide even the smallest hint of desire to resub.

But I may be tired of the whole thing as well. Her bro bought her a preorder of GW2. Watcing her play that...../yawn...more of the same, just with different window dressing.

They made their profits by not providing any support for their products, which is why I don't buy their shit.

Yeah, you can add always-on DRM for a single player-only game to that too, but that would have been easier to take had the last 2 products I bought from them weren't bug-fests with missing and broken features and had more support than a token one-time patch that fixed little.

But SH5 doesn't have any megamods like SH3 and SH4 do. What mods do you use to "make" SH5?

Mighty Fine Crew, Intelligent Random AI, FX Update, new UI and TDC by The Dark Wraith, Realistic Equipment Mod, Steel Viking's Interior, Dynamic Environments, the Open Horizons II campaign, and a sprinkling of others related to things like radio, etc.

I think some of the guys behind Grey Wolves for 3 were looking at making one for 5 but I'm not sure where that is at. There are a couple megamods and mod compilations out there, for example Magnum Opus.

I've been into subsims since the pinball arcade days and Silent Service, and have been playing this franchise since the first Silent Hunter.

At the time I liked Ace of the Deep slightly better (the campaign mostly) even though SH had SVGA graphics and a much nicer look. I still got a lot of hours out of it because of the different theatre and everything that goes with that. I still have the orignal CD but can't find the map packs.

2 was supposed to have interop with Destroyer Commmand, but Ubi never did fix it and it took a few dedicated individuals and modders many many months to get permission to finally fix it.

3 was groundbreaking in many ways (3d interior with crew being the biggest) but it had a lot of bugs (understandable, new engine and all) and Ubisoft dropped support after a few patches. Shackled with Starforce DRM. Mods make it.

4 added a few more features and switched back to the Pacific. However it was also bug riddled, some carrying over from 3. Ubisoft dropped support after a few patches. I'm not sure what DRM scheme it uses. Mods make it.

5 again added more features but the same annoying bugs return among new ones. It was and is shackled with always on DRM (the launcher has been patched and it no longer works in offline mode). Ubisoft dropped support after one patch (or was it 2? certainly no more than that). Mods make it.

See a trend here?

I do have to say that I have seen some of Ubi's individual employees really go to bat for the community (see community patch for 2, modability, etc.) and these individuals are great. Somewhere up the chain of command something is getting lost however.

It may have taken me awhile to see just how wretchedly Ubisoft, the corporation, treat their customers, but I'll never forget and more than likely never go back.

If SH5 didn't kill the franchise, this most certainly will, at least for people who want more than just an arcade shoot-em up.

But yeah, I thought it was an odd line as well, since religion itself is a seldom occurring concept in the Star Wars canon, other than the force. *which is ironically not really worshiped or even discussed much outside of Jedi/Sith circles*

Yes and no.

I watched the empire strikes back (yes, yet again ) a few nights ago and lost count of the number of times I heard "maker save us" and "by the creator", which have religious overtones.

It has the aesthetic, some of the lore, and some of the gameplay, but with the F2P model this game is a significant departure from the first 2 in most other respects.

"We're sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco and weapons companies are all relieved they weren't on the list this year. We're going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide."

Typical and expected response.

I work for a large corporation (for now). They're bleeding people and so struck a committee made up of staff for feedback as to why. A couple people from management got involved weeks later and watered the report down. Nothing has changed, people continue to leave, and they can't figure out why?!?!?

Love the post re: Ubi!

I'd rather have more releases than fewer but do tend to stay with a version that works for me.

I've owned many cards of both brands over the years. They both have their advantages and disadvantages at times.

I've been using the 12.1 betas but will probably give these a shot given the Skyrim and CCC fixes.

If someone deploys motion sensors or has a jammer pack you can spot them easy enough.

There are a lot of elements from the originals that are missing or changed, likely as a result of the business model, which to me is unfortunate.

The game lost its magic for me.

Looking at what has been released for MoP to date hasn't changed that. I played ToR for a bit; more of the same.

I have tried EVE and GW; didn't turn my crank.

It was a good move canceling WoW 4 months ago as far as my gaming time goes. I've been playing a lot of other games: some new stuff, ones that I missed, of which many are on sale, and some oldies but goodies I haven't fired up in a while. Having a blast.

I can't imagine ever going back to raiding end game content of anything now that I think about it.....
