So they smartened up and they are not going to require cell phone numbers of post paid plans from people who have been playing the first Overwatch. I hope they smarten up and find a better solution for all the new "poors" with prepaid plans who can't play because they don't have post paid cell phone plans. This is ridiculous, it's supposed to be a game that embraces diversity and "everyone can be a hero" ethos and yet because they made the decision to go free to play, they are now wrestling with the inevitable toxicity/griefing of being able to create new Battlenet accounts easily after getting banned. Their solution is this draconian "give us your post paid cell phone number so we can SMS it otherwise you can't play" nonsense which locked people out of playing a free to play game. They removed one barrier to playing by adding a much greater one.
What is the solution you are recommending? Free unlimited accounts for everyone?
A fair price for the game tied to your Battlenet account. You know like they did in the past. If they insist on free to play, then better moderation, take all the millions that you are going to reap from psychologically manipulating people into becoming paying whales and dolphins, and use some of that money for better, more timely banning. Also I don't work for Activision-Blizzard, it's not my job to come up with solutions. Want me to come up with better solutions, pay me.
FWIW, I agree with you.
I'm sure there are other solutions but they all will require some kind of greater privacy intrusions for a free to play game. For the purpose of toxic behavior/grieifing the idea that new battlenet accounts have to spend some time in quickplay before they can do compettitve is a good idea. I mean it's not a good idea for the vast majority of players who are not going to be toxic, but the small percentage that are it's a good idea to put new accounts on probation essentially. New accounts should get extra scrutiny, paying attention the number and frequency of complaints they get and how fast they get them. You can pretty easily identify the toxic players, they will have new accounts with lots of complaints against them in a short period of time. I don't know if they already do this, but don't make it easy to create new battlenet accounts using scripts or bots.

Normally I would agree with you, but this is not Farcrzy 6, or Call of Doody 647, or any of a number of really shitty games that usually sell like hotcakes. It really isn't.
I don't think should reward developers/publishers for lies and that's what is happening here. You send the message that it's okay to lie, deceive, misrepresent, and as long as a couple years later you fix it when in reality the game is still nothing of what was promised and never will be.

Because of the decision to go free to play and the resulting toxicity that free to play games experience when people grief and then if they get banned they just create a new account, you now need to provide a cell phone number per account. Also Activision-Blizzard records what you say in voice chat and transcribe it to text to cut down on voice chat toxicity. The game is not that good in my opinion to allow these kinds of invasion. It's really Overwatch 1.5

Interesting. JayzTwoCents points out that everyone is looking at the RAM on the the lower 4080 and not the CUDA cores. The 12 GB 4080 has 2000 less CUDA cores than the 16 GB 4080. That's a big difference. It's NOT the same card with less memory.

Technically that 12GB 4080 is m,ore like a 4070:
https://youtu.be/F7TRFK3lCOQ
Yes it's worse than I thought, I totally missed the fact that the core is not even the same card, it's stripped down. It's not a 4080 with 12 GB of RAM it's less than a 4080 calling itself a 4080.

I'm only in the market for 3090's for the foreseeable future. Especially EVGA 3090's.

I don't give a damn about games. I need VRAM for my language models. 2x3090 is just barely enough to fit a lightweight version of GPT-NeoX for fine tuning.

40xx series does nothing in the VRAM department, so there is no reason to look at that generation.
The fact that Nvidia intends to sell 12 GB VRAM 4000 series cards means they have their heads up their ass. The fact that they are selling 3000 series cards with 8 and 12 GB of VRAM means they had their heads up their ass already. Also don't forget expect triple slot cards and power requirements through the roof.

yeah the 4080 12GB is 100% bullshit. 12GB is not enough today for a top end gamer card, and only 192 bit memory bus too. that'll start hitting memory limits sooner rather than later which is completely unacceptable for an $800 card. for that price it needs to last the entire product cycle. it SHOULD be a 4070.
No 4000 series card should exist with 12 GB VRAM. No 3000 series card should exist with 8 or 12 GB of VRAM.

Yeah, you don't forget to mention that you don't have to pay for heroes in an announcement like this. Just backtracking from a company that can't seem to do anything right. It's kinda sad to see a once-great company implode like this.
Yes they will be available on the free track but in such a way as to make the grind to get them oppressive in order to psychologically pressure you into waiving the grind buy just buying the premium battle pass. This is just old school manipulation. You play off FOMO. The only thing that matters is how oppressive is the grind going to be made. If they make it too grindy then there will be much rage, if they don't make it grindy enough than the premium battle pass looks less attractive. We know all the new heroes that come out are disproportionately over powered so for some amount of time Overwatch 2 will be pay to win. The people who have paid will get the overpowered heroes right away while everyone who doesn't will have be gated out of using them. For a game which is all about new heroes, doing this strike at the heart of the game.

I'm not surprised given what exists in Diablo Immortal that this is what they are going with, more psychological manipulation, once I heard this game would be free to play you could have predicted all this.

TL2 was one of my favorite games. I hope F2P doesn't ruin it. Path of Exile and Genshin Impact show that you can make a free to play game without crippling it. Hopefully they have chosen that path.
I must be in the minority, because I hate loot based games. Too much like a casino and the associated psychological manipulation.

I can't really say I've had any observable performance issues related to Denuvo in the past few years but I dislike it anyway. Companies have gotten better about patching it out after launch but I don't want to rely on a publisher's good graces to play games down the road.
There are videos on youtube comparing the same game with Denuvo and without Denuvo. It's been shown that the biggest impact is .exe file size are significantly bigger with Denuvo then without and loading times are significantly worse with Denuvo. And in a few games FPS has been show to be lower with Denuvo. But the biggest differences are loading times and .exe file size. To me that's reason enough not to accept Denuvo. The idea it doesn't affect performance is a demonstrable lie.

They can have 1,000 planets it's possible, like many Bethesda games, a mile wide but an inch deep. And you really should take anything Todd Howard says or shows with a metric ton of salt.

Todd Howard is a proven liar. I bet it took them 6 months to get that disjointed gameplay frame perfect so they could cut it up and put it together. You can't spell Starfield without Bugthesda. I don't believe the graphics are representative of the final game. And I certainly expect it to be another bug filled, predatorily monetized, Bugthesda game.
