Just wondering, having done ME2 and all but the new DLC, how does another run through go? I see their FAQ but it's kinda missing the detail if I want to change things up a bit.

I.e. do I "lose" the first run? I was a bit completionist, and unlikely to be on 2nd run, so wouldn't want to lose the 1st run choices for the ME3 save import.

Can I change char to femshep?

If I go all Renegade this time, would ME3 import treat my char as renegade, paragon or both?

Ars for UK only looks at BT and Virgin - two of the biggest UK ISPs, but there is plenty choice out there.

I'm on Be There, relatively expensive but even their cheapest "value" package is unlimited - though the terms do say:
If it's felt that any Be member's Internet activities are so excessive that other members are detrimentally affected, Be may give the member generating the excessive web traffic a written warning (by email or otherwise). In extreme circumstances, should the levels of activity not immediately decrease after the warning, Be may terminate that member's services.
Between Steam and iPlayer I'm probably in the heaviest user groups outside of torrent users, never heard a peep from them.

Another thing I'm pleased about is I signed up years ago for 18/m and it's still 18/m, even though the package now costs 25/m. It's advertised at 24mb, I get ~16mb though some of that is the router fiddling settings for reliability and because my account is set to game mode (favours ping), IIRC set to download speed I get around 22mb.

My line has been very reliable and service excellent, though a friend had no end of troubles for some reason.

Direct2Drive is Steam's main competition in the DD space but hopefully Gamestop could put some "muscle" into making Impulse a more realistic option. The client especially needs a lot of work.
Yeah, but on the other hand is GameSpot big enough to start playing dirty and demanding exclusives?

(Genuine question, I'm not from the U.S.)

TBH I'm not even sure if, at this point, gamers need competition from Steam. The only significant complaint I have with Steam is how certain publishers insist on prices that are RRP/MSRP - not a problem Valve/Steam can solve (bar, perhaps, through convincing dialogue). The only other thing I can think of is that quite a few people do seem keen on a download service that doesn't require running a client to play.

Developers on the other hand, they probably could do with having some competition to nudge down Steam's margin.

PHJF most of the drive manufacturers actually pretty good software e.g. seatools, western digital, maxblast (or whatever they're calling it now).

IIRC you can use it on a different brand drive so long as you have at least one of their drives in your system.

11. Re: NPD Asks Analysts to Stop Sharing Sales Data Mar 29, 2011, 13:33 DG
Putting aside suspicions of their true motivation, however plausable, their argument is certainly accurate.

Last time I bothered paying any attention whatsoever to sales figures, there'd be some silly article followed up with all these comments about how BS the data was for missing online sales, blah blah blah. Then I go have a look at their website and it's immediately obvious it's information for retail who would specifically want only retail data.

People were whining on and on and bitching about what was their own error, NPD's was perfectly valid for their intended and advertised use. That use simply was not what it was portrayed as in gaming media.

Heh, there's plenty corporations where this is the intended tactic... Underpay and overwork staff with the incentive being quick promotion, right up until they're overpromoted at which point they make their life hell to try and make them resign.

Aside from having a meal and swapping presents at Xmas I only really observe Remembrance Sunday. It's still very widely observed, and observed properly, with the only "commercialisation" being the Poppy Appeal, that is to make a donation to the Royal British Legion (who organise the day and support veterans) and wear their red poppy.

Although services are local in pretty much all towns and villages (a city is likely to have several) the main service is held at the Cenotaph and Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, easily my favourite monument/memorial/statue(s) (I tend to view them as two parts of a monument) partially due to it continuing to be properly observed and partly for it's profoundly poignant unveiling.

Yeah, though personally I find over-ambitious animations to be more annoying than ones that do something simpler better. Maybe I find the latter easier to apply my imagination to... Anyways, over-ambitious animations often seem to go hand-in-hand with stealth-game irritants like their FOV being out of sync with where the animation has their head pointing.

Um, this is the beginning of the "very first level". Of course the solutions are going to be very obvious, it's pretty much a tutorial.

I'm also confident the highlighting is going to be removed, or tweaked so that you have to be pointing and almost touching it, on anything above normal difficulties.

I do hope the cover system is indeed optional though. Or at least a 'natural' one rather than "press button to lean into wall".

Hmm, there's always a lot of sweeping generalisations, assumptions and very particular perspectives when it comes to wealth distribution.

Sorry to pick on adamj, but just to illustrate, "Many times it is the fault of the poor that they have no net wealth at all" is very true or extremely misleading depending on how you define "fault" and also depending on what scale you're looking at.

When a 16 yo gets pregnant, you can conclude it's the soon-to-be mom & dad's fault for being irresponsible.
When highschools in poor areas have consistently and dramatically higher teen pregnancy rates than those in rich areas, it's not a conclusion to say that there are more irresponsible kids in poor areas, but merely rewording the problem. Why are there more irresponsible kids in poor areas?

Sure there is a causal link between behaving irresponsibly and being poor. But the causality goes both ways.

If society has put someone at a disadvantage, society is obliged to try and compensate. Likewise if society has put someone at an advantage, that someone owes a little back. And it's in society's own interests to do so. If the right balance can be found helping the poor should more accurately be described as investing; spending a dollar now in order to save two dollars in future welfare costs, reduced crime, better labour pool and so on.

I'm not saying finding that balance is easy though.

Anyone know if this DLC will take place after the end, or will I need to start a new game in order to trigger this somewhere in the middle?

Bullets coming out of the MG perpendicular to where the animation has it pointing (see 2.11) is one of my pet hates, hope that's being ironed out.

p.s. why link to a forum post that just copy+pasted an article?

I could never quite understand my mother always getting the best bird food that the birds liked the best.

Much as it was nice to have all the birds around, surely it is ultimately preferable to be offering "last resort" survival food and leaving their first choices to nature?

This was in the countryside though, no doubt in some urban areas nature isn't much of an option.

72 = mediocre
76 = generally favourable

4 points roughly three-quarters of the way up a 100 point scale separates 'mediocre' from 'favourable'.

And, as Gamasutra notes, all the scores published pre-release (i.e. those easy to presume to have preferential NDA) had much higher than average scores.

Why I don't pay attention to reviews.

I can't believe how much mileage they got out of idTech3, and it is hard to believe it is the same engine Q3A used, although HEAVILY modified. Amazing.......

Q3 engine was literally brilliant in it's day, and scaled very well. It certainly helped that id kept upgrading it, there was kind of a cycle of more people licensing it leading to more development leading to more people buying it... TBH I think I have some belief that Carmack lost his lead over everybody else simply because DirectX sprinted on ahead of OpenGL, and it's another step removed from the metal so to speak. How much can you innovate in a controlled environment?

1. Re: BT Mar 14, 2011, 14:02 DG
A "traffic management" policy will remain, "when the network is busy."
What Ars doesn't seem to be aware of is that "traffic management" is exactly how BT imposes usage caps. No, internet isn't cut off entirely and no, there is no per GB fee, but it's still a cap if they're degrading the quality of the product due to usage.

Heavy user? After 5pm? 512k speeds it is then.

This would of course be perfectly fair if the caps were advertised, but BT are very deceptive about it. As Ars noted, the T&C's are unclear and they flat out lie on the telephone (well, the chap you're speaking to most likely just doesn't know, the deception is more likely to be that BT decided not to have it show on their computer system).

/Not a BT customer. No thanks.

a bazillion dollars is why.

atm CS + CS Source has more than double the online players of the next two most popular games (MW2+Black Ops) combined. More than the rest of the entire top 10 combined. Even though CS is more than 10 years old.

Personally I'm not exactly pleased with the prospect since CS is so extraordinarily popular it pretty much kills off everything else.
