Anyone know if this DLC will take place after the end, or will I need to start a new game in order to trigger this somewhere in the middle?

Bullets coming out of the MG perpendicular to where the animation has it pointing (see 2.11) is one of my pet hates, hope that's being ironed out.

I don't even have any problems with Vista 64 bit and yeah that boots faster than XP did too.

p.s. why link to a forum post that just copy+pasted an article?

I could never quite understand my mother always getting the best bird food that the birds liked the best.

Much as it was nice to have all the birds around, surely it is ultimately preferable to be offering "last resort" survival food and leaving their first choices to nature?

This was in the countryside though, no doubt in some urban areas nature isn't much of an option.

72 = mediocre
76 = generally favourable

4 points roughly three-quarters of the way up a 100 point scale separates 'mediocre' from 'favourable'.

And, as Gamasutra notes, all the scores published pre-release (i.e. those easy to presume to have preferential NDA) had much higher than average scores.

Why I don't pay attention to reviews.

I can't believe how much mileage they got out of idTech3, and it is hard to believe it is the same engine Q3A used, although HEAVILY modified. Amazing.......

Q3 engine was literally brilliant in it's day, and scaled very well. It certainly helped that id kept upgrading it, there was kind of a cycle of more people licensing it leading to more development leading to more people buying it... TBH I think I have some belief that Carmack lost his lead over everybody else simply because DirectX sprinted on ahead of OpenGL, and it's another step removed from the metal so to speak. How much can you innovate in a controlled environment?

1. Re: BT Mar 14, 2011, 14:02 DG
A "traffic management" policy will remain, "when the network is busy."
What Ars doesn't seem to be aware of is that "traffic management" is exactly how BT imposes usage caps. No, internet isn't cut off entirely and no, there is no per GB fee, but it's still a cap if they're degrading the quality of the product due to usage.

Heavy user? After 5pm? 512k speeds it is then.

This would of course be perfectly fair if the caps were advertised, but BT are very deceptive about it. As Ars noted, the T&C's are unclear and they flat out lie on the telephone (well, the chap you're speaking to most likely just doesn't know, the deception is more likely to be that BT decided not to have it show on their computer system).

/Not a BT customer. No thanks.

a bazillion dollars is why.

atm CS + CS Source has more than double the online players of the next two most popular games (MW2+Black Ops) combined. More than the rest of the entire top 10 combined. Even though CS is more than 10 years old.

Personally I'm not exactly pleased with the prospect since CS is so extraordinarily popular it pretty much kills off everything else.

5. Re: On Sale Mar 5, 2011, 09:00 DG
Assassin's Creed 2 Deluxe
Retail store price: 35
D2D regular price: 40 (24 for the Mac version, even though presumably Steam Fairplay?)
D2D sale price: 25
Regular price at Steam: 20
Console Regular price at Amazon and Play: 12
*golf clap*

Anyway... Being told how good this game is, so PC or 360? Generally prefer PC but kinda disgusted by the DRM, and the 360 price is cheaper.

Decent article, the it's usually the MB that takes me the longest to pick when I'm upgrading. I got lucky on this build though and hit on a good Anandtech roundup, MSI-Neo2 P35 which does everything I need and was cheap too.

One thing he missed out though is they keep putting connectors that are obviously going to be blocked when a gamer-sized video card is plugged in.

I'm actually JUST NOW getting around to playing ME2 & so far I'm really enjoying it alot.

2 Questions
1. So far I've been going around the galaxy adding "Companions" to my fight against the collectors is this most of the game & do I have to do this to progress the main story line? *Not a complaint just wondering*

2. Should I purchase some of the DLC & if so which one or none?
1. Getting your team is much of the game. You can skip some if you want though others are part of the main storyline, and I'd suggest grabbing them all. You should try to have everything done before you reach the, uh, obviously pivotal moment in the game.

2. If you're only getting one DLC then Shadow Broker should be it. Personally though I thought all the missions ones were worth the small amount of money.
However IIRC they turn up mid-game and you have to do them before the aforementioned pivotal moment. Therefore your choice is really to get them right away, get them for a second run through or don't bother with them.

edit: with the DLC though I've sunk 64 hours into ME2, in one run-through. Main thing I'll pass on is don't bother going crazy scanning planets. I'd figured I would get it out of the way early on but turned out you don't really need much.

It is strange that they stated that it could be used by 3rd parties if their only goal is for optional Steam account security for the benefit of the account holder.
What relevance is there for 3rd parties?

They can do the same thing apple does with Itunes. You can log into your account management and reset the activated computers.

Limit the amount of resets to 2-3 times a year or whatever, if need more resets you have to contact support.
You are screwed by the first reset that isn't you. The limit to 2-3 isn't doing you any favours.

2. Re: UK government: DSL Mar 3, 2011, 13:34 DG
The problem with "up to" speeds are primarily an issue for the "last mile" between home and the exchange. The ISP has no control over that. Except for the cable and FTTH where you get new wires and so no surprise they hit very close to the advertised speeds.

So in some respects, complaining about the failure to obtain advertised rates is similar to complaining about a restaurant advertising service in 10 mins just because it takes you 30 mins to drive there.

Somewhat ironic that the government complains about this when they gave BT the monopoly over the telephone network and hence that last mile is all owned by BT.

In a competitive sense, an "up to" Xmb from one company is also usually ending up the same Ymb regardless of which company. Differences are usually accounted for the defaults applied to the routers, which can be manually tweaked.

There is one issue they should be putting out there yet aren't attempting to address: ISP's throttling and having too high contention.

OK, sure really there should be some little checker so people can try to figure out the actual speeds they would be getting. But this "25th to 75th percentile" is absurd, the speed varies by distance and quality of wiring to the cabinet, totally irrelevant to national average of an ISP. All you're going to end up with using this crap is averages that are at best irrelevant and at worst wide open to manipulation (e.g. have one product for people near exchanges and another for those further away, while advertising one not the other).

Most people whining think they're going to end up with some discount because their 10mb isnt the 20mb advertised. Not really. The connection doesn't really make much difference to cost, it's more about data quantity. A 20mb connection merely downloads the same quantity more quicker. The main reason for the price differences on packages is marketing, that is to get those willing to pay more to do so. Secondly, heavier internet users tend to be more willing to buy the faster pipe.

Stormsinger wrote on Feb 27, 2011, 00:29:
I had options with my last company (who had actual games out, and a real revenue stream) and they weren't valued anywhere near $5 a share.
Whoa there. Prices of shares are completely incomparable.

A company worth $100,000 may have 100 shares each valued at $1,000, or it may have 1m each valued at $0.10. Or anything.

It might even have 99x$1,000 "A" shares + 100,000x$0.01 "B" shares, with the A & B shares having varied voting and dividend rights.

These guys have a good idea but I'm very wary about how they've gone about it. Either he's not had a sit-down with a lawyer/accountant or he's decided not to implement fairly obvious mechanisms to make the whole thing straightforward with reasonable controls for the investors.

If an indie is going to raise funding by allowing fans to buy shares I would think they should be issuing "B" shares, which would have a set % of "A" dividends and probably non-voting except for variations of dividend rights, issue of new shares, director's remuneration, sale of IP and for winding-up.

In TFA, he says he'll sell up to 100,000 of 1,211,605 shares. Therefore those 100k shares total 8.25%. For $500k. That's only reasonable if the company is worth $6m. But, there's no mention on any restriction on issuing new shares or director's remuneration. He could sell these shares then have the company issue to himself 1.2m new $0.01 B shares and suddenly all those shares you bought are only worth half as much. Or maybe the company does well and instead of paying out a dividend (8.25% of which goes to investors) maybe he just pays himself a huge bonus through payroll. Or why not just complete the game, then sell it for $1 to newco which he owns 100%.

I'd certainly be *extremely* wary that there's no offer to show accounts before making the investment. Certainly once you own shares you have the right to demand accounts. Another thing is he's saying you buy something from the company and he personally will transfer shares - I'm uncertain how enforceable this is. Some country's contract law requires a consideration. If you're paying money to the company rather than him then arguably he's making a unilateral offer which is unenforceable (it would be enforceable if you paid him the money for the shares)
