Pretty useless protesting until they tell us that its actually going to happen..

It's like arguing whos gonna have the window seat on the ride to the moon in 2025. There might not even be windows.

Is this the benchmark they're gonna release to the public before hl2 is released?

I think they've been perfectly clear.

they have said on the record:

hl2 will be available to buy steam
hl2 will use steam for updates
you need to auth online before you can play online using steam after you have used it with steam for the first time.

fog really does stink - i only play weapons cache and pipeline.. the rest of the maps are about seeing 1 pixel a different color in fog then shooting it (and hoping its not a teammate)

40 minute rounds suck too.

*sighs* bad news for me, considering Steam runs like total ass on my computer.

steam beta ran like ass on your computer.

I really doubt the final steam will take 200mb memory just to start. Also - they've already said that although the beta required broadband, the final version doesnt.. which makes the specs that some guy mentioned invalid.

Lets shut up moaning about how much steam is going to suck until we try it on wednesday - they might suprise us. Lets hope they do.

1. If you buy it in a box you can still sell it to someone else.. If not then no.

2. The same options the user has now with multiplayer games i'd imagine.

3. Choose a password that they wont guess - don't tell people your password. It's pretty simple.

Everytime steam is mentioned here there are about 4 people who come on and say how rubbish steam was and they're suprised anyone got it working.

Steam has always worked for me. Yeah it was a bit slow in the early betas, Yeah it used to crash in the early betas, but since the start of this year its been near perfect.

You only have to start it and go into server browser to see the number of 10 year old boys that managed to get it to work (WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION).

Also - you can use ASE with steam right now. You will not be able to seperate hl2 from steam since when they update it yours wont be able to update. This would also probably send VAC mad.

they already said a couple of options that will be available over steam

hl2+multiplayer which will be cheaper than in store

OR (important OR since you dont need to subscribe to play online!!!!)

valve subscription: if you subscrive you pay a fee of say $10 a month and for that you are able to download and play all the games that valve released

how much will what cost?

Steam is free.

If you already have a half-life/cs/dod cd-key you will enter it to gain access to half-life and it's mods using steam.

picked this up again since they added punkbuster - I forgot how fun it was to succeed in learning a map. Haven't done that since the cs beta days. I have learnt pipeline and weaponcache.

Really hate those maps with the fog. God I really hate them.

by the way, valve are planning on letting people sell their mods over steam.

they are also planning on letting shaweware developers sell their games over steam too! which is great news.

ok,

the only reason theyre doing this is to make it cheaper for people to play hl2. Theyre not doing it to be greedy. The cut down version will cost less than usual, the hl2+mp wont cost more than usual.

i'll decide what version i'm buying when they are announced. will either be the hl2+mp or the collectors or over steam.

It's obviously fake.

I like how slashdot posted it though - and they all belived it and there was outcry about how valve are evil like microsoft. fucking nerds.

hl2 needs steam to run.

once you've played multiplayer every time you want to play hl2 you must connect to the internet and verify that it's a legic copy.

if you buy hl2 over steam it will always need steam to run. You can of course share your steam account with a friend for them to dl hl2 - if you don't mind sharing your credit card details and address with them.

To clarify, if you buy hl2 over steam you need to connect to the internet every time you want to play it to verify that you are authorised to dl it.
