SEGA is not seeing what it wants to see on the schedule it wants to see it from either project.

Somewhat ironically, this is the same reason the first Aliens: Colonial Marines game was canned - just with different parties.

I'll sit on the fence on this one. Personally, I'd much rather have Aliens: Colonial Marines than another AvP game - especially considering that Rebellion haven't exactly put out any stellar games since 1999's AvP on the PC (their more recent AvPR game for the PSP was generally received as mediocre). Just because they put out two good AvP games 10-15 years ago doesn't mean they still have the 'old magic'. Just look what happened to (now Rebellion-owned) Core Design as an example of a developer who once churned out gold that gradually turned to crap.

No matter whether Rebellion or Pandemic do this, I expect the game has a good possibility of ending up sub-par. While Battlefront 2 was enjoyable to a degree, one wonders what collective brain-fart conceived LOTR: Conquest, which was disappointing on so many levels (hell, I can fly spaceships in SW:BF2 but can't fly a Fell Beast in LOTR:Conquest?). If that's the direction Pandemic are going then SW:BF3 doesn't fill me with excitement.

The initial rumors regarding a handover to Rebellion were no better. They've barely put out a noteworthy game in 10 years (exceptions being the original AVP on the PC and arguably Rogue Trooper). I lost faith in them after they released Dredd Vs Death - a totally wasted effort on a franchise with massive potential. Oh, and they even managed to put out a mediocre AvP game for the PSP not long ago, which just proves that just because a developer does justice to a franchise once (or in Rebellion's case twice if you consider the 1994 Jaguar AvP game) doesn't mean they'll always retain that consistency of quality.

While I enjoyed the original AvP, Rebellion went on to make a godawful Judge Dredd game that barely merited the licence. They hadn't even learned mistakes from AvP since - years onward - they still omitted an ingame server browser for multiplayer which was pretty much a basic standard feature by that point.

And what ever happened to their much-announced plans to make the two Dredd movies? It's about time someone did some justice to the character on a cinema screen after that travesty of a Stallone effort.

The Aliens game back on the amiga was good (I think that was 20 years ago).

The only Alien game on the Amiga was Alien 3 (which also appeared on SNES and Genesis). The one you're probably thinking of is either Activision's Aliens on C64 etc or Electric Dreams' Aliens (also 8-bit). Both came out in 1987, although I consider the latter to be superior (it was an early forefather of the first-person shooter).

I thought both Delta Force: Black Hawk Down and the Delta Force Xtreme 'remake' were both mediocre - but I did get alot of enjoyment out of Joint Operations. Hopefully this new title will be more like the latter.

As I've heard it, they aren't splitting The Hobbit at all. The first film will be The Hobbit. The second film will be a bridge between the end of The Hobbit and the beginning of The Lord Of The Rings. Tolkien left enough notes to cover this 80 year gap (much of which was published in Unfinished Tales).

If it's anything like most movie tie-ins, the 'torture' will be playing it and the 'miracle' will be that it's any good.

Given the relatively small number of zombie-centric games released over the years, I'm hoping this will turn out decent. Most of the others that were in development seem to have simply died out before release (eg. Dead Rush, Zombies: The Awakening, City Of The Dead) and the ones that DID get released weren't too amazing (Land Of The Dead, Stubbs The Zombie).

Yeah, gotta admit this is pretty good. Haven't played a Tomb Raider game since the second one way back - but this brings back fond memories of playing the original on the PSX.

Looks more like a budget shooter. Reminds me of Line Of Sight: Vietnam from years ago.

Likewise. I finally "escaped" last month after having played the game since Aug '05. Quit for much the same reasons - endgame content is too time-consuming and laborious to be worth bothering with. Plus there's plenty of other games I missed during my stay in Azeroth that are still worth checking out.

And for a split second, here I was thinking it was going to be a contemporary update of the old Saboteur games by Durell back in the Eighties.

Since I'm a huge fan of Romero's "Dead" series and considering the lack of zombie-centric shooters on the PC, I'm definitely buying this. Sure, it's dated in some respects, but it *IS* a budget shooter, so I'm hardly expecting next gen. Only problem now is finding enough time to pry myself away from World Of Warcraft to play anything else.

I admit I'm a big sucker for George Romero's zombie films, so I'll definitely be giving this a look - esp. at a budget price. It's not like there's many first-person zombie shooters for the PC outside of total conversions for other games (most of them never finished). This certainly looks better than Kuju's "City Of The Dead" at any rate...

Haven't been too impressed by the screenshots of Vietcong 2 so far - but that said, the first one was more about playability over looks anyway. I hope the sequel's multiplayer is just as solid as that of the original game.

The last Carmageddon game was generally considered stale in terms of ideas or direction - I'm surprised they were planning another one.

Other than Resident Evil and lame ass House of the Dead shooters, how many "Night of the Living Dead" games have been released?

Not alot - and most of them have been average to subpar (eg. Flesh Feast, Last Rites etc.). Personally, I hope this newly-announced game is decent, since indications were that Kuju's City Of The Dead was a pile of shit (no wonder that Hip Interactive dropped it).

Still...curious that Hip Interactive were doing a Romero zombie game and now we've got a company called Groove games making one. Doesn't fill me with confidence, to be honest.
