I wouldn't even call them extras. As far as I'm concerned, they're required. I'm really bummed they decided to release a bare bones system. I hope the market doesn't get flooded with them.

Silver status = live connectivity for updates and downloadable content but NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER

Gold status = full connectivity for MP gaming, at a subscription cost...I assume it will be comparable to current LIVE costs...approx 60 bucks a year.

Yeah, unfortunately that one is showing signs of being dumbed down for the purposes of crossplatforming.

What signs are those?

I looooove my MAME32

My, how time flies. We're reaching a point where MAME *itself* is becoming a classic...not just the games it emulates. I just realized it's been over 4 years since I did this:

Alex Navarro seems more intent cultivating a glib, smart-ass persona than being accurate with his reviews

Yeah, I find that to be the case as well. I'm so tired of reviewers who come up with some semi-clever comment, and then try and make it fit into their review of any given game.

Speaking of comsole games, I just bought God-Of-War for the PS2 after hearing so many people praise it

Oh man, the boss battles in GoW alone make it worthy of purchase. Add to that widescreen 480p support, and it's quite a looker as well.

The reviews seem pretty accurate. I rented it and returned it after approx 30 minutes of gameplay. The targeting system isn't as bad as the reviews say, but it is a little annoying how it "locks" on every single enemy you run by. The frame rate is quite shady in many situations, even ones where it shouldn't be. I say go with most reviews on this one. Only recommend it if you have a free rental coupon from somewhere.

During signup, people have the option of enlisting to fight for the United States Army or Marine Corps, the Middle Eastern Coalition Armies, or the People's Liberation Army.

I hear they forward these "signups" to the actual recruiting department of each division. One day you're playing BF2 from the comfort of your home, the next day you may be battling to protect communisim in China. So choose your teams well.

I have a chance to pick up an ATI 800 XT for $250.00 (I think Sapphire) - from co-worker.
Is it worth the pricetag? Seems they go for a lot more, but I have found them NEW for just over $250.00

I'd say go for it. I own a 6800GT 256MB and love it, but I have no specific loyalty to nvidia or Ati. If I could get an X800 for 250 I'd do it.

Just to be clear, I *don't* smoke or drink, and I do enjoy my consoles just about as much as I enjoy my high-end gaming PC.

For one, I can emulate just about every other console out there.

Any console? Really? Tell me where to download a good xbox emulator. In reality, you can only reliably emulate past-gen consoles.

I can use it for work to program, do graphics, and such.

Agreed

I can play most games that come out on consoles and at better resolution and quality.

Most games? Doubtful. Many *major* games that come out for consoles are available cross-platform and for PC, but it's just not accurate to say that most console games are also available on PC. - And better resolution doesn't necessarily mean better quality. This is more subjective, but most of my xbox games on my HDTV from 6 feet away look just as good as something running at 1280x1024 viewing it from 16 inches away. I despise the generic "higher res means better graphics" argument.

I can play movies, music, and all kinds of other media.

Hmmm, last I checked, I could play movies and music on my Xbox as well.

Sometimes I wonder if there is a single feature of WoW that Blizzard didn't lift from somewhere.

What does that matter, if it does it well, or even better? Original does not necessarily equal fun. If you are going to use that logic, then the EQ2 devs should get no points for everything they ripped from EQ1.

Yes I'm very stubborn, but if iD, Valve, and Crytek can do it, why can't EA?

Wow, I must have missed a bunch of games lately. What iD, Valve, and Crytek games supported large open maps with at 8+ land and air vehicles, and multiple character classes? Did I miss something? Crytek's Far Cry was beautiful (and large and open), but I don't remember more than one or two vehicles at a time in those levels. I also don't remember being able to play much more than 10 minutes in HL2 before the awesome graphics engine had to load a new level - and HL2DM couldn't be more vanilla or laggy. And Doom3...Doom3 didnt have large open maps OR vehichles.

BF2 is a great looking game for what it's pushing.

According to Team17, the current demo is a from a build over a month old. Later this week they are *cough* supposed to release the demo of the current build, which should have configurable controls. They posted a pic of the options screen that showed separate inverts for x and y axis in 3rd person, and y axis in 1st person. Demo later this week *cough* should also address some of the bug issues.

The only thing I disliked was the controls on w3

Yeah, I know what you mean. I just posted on the team17 forums, and they devs confirmed that all versions (consoles included) will include fully configurable controls, and separately invertable x/y axis in both 1st and 3rd person views.

The wonky controls are the only thing that kept me from enjoying Worms3d (and I loved the 2d games as well). Looks like W4 might be all that W3d should have been.

I feel no pity for all the idiots who overpaid through Steam.

Why should you? I don't recall asking for any. I've got better things to do than worry about 10 extra bucks that I spent over 8 months ago. If you are going to slam us over being "idiots" for steam, come up with something better than wasting 10 dollars.

a really long pain in the ass download and install

What are you talking about? I had my HL2 pre-downloaded well over a month in advance. I had ZERO issues with my CDkey.

Heck, even the "have to be connected to internet" argument is better than this lame one.

All that aside...as much as I like DoD...this new DoDsource is shaping up to be quite mediocre. (I better demand my 10 bucks back, huh?)

While I eagerly await DoD Source, this quote from the news link above troubles me:

"Here is the first screenshot from dod_flash, which is the first map that has been given this complete art pass. We'll have more things to share over the next few weeks."

I translate this as "Well, we're done with one map so far!". I hope I'm wrong.
