hokey smokes is she still around!? started in '83 according to the article, hers was one of the few (only? ) Hard Core RPG columns in existence at the time.
Favorite game:
Yep, Ultima IV is still numero uno. The runner-up position is held by the original Fallout

also a good link in replies to her Ancient Evil blog article:

the Geneforge saga is a good one.

I've never been sure why that is
it's because Corporations and Gaming are mutually exclusive ideas.
Really! They are!
It'd be like Evil trying to buy a % of Good... it just won't work!

I wonder how much 3D Realms really has to offer indy development studios.

- On the one hand if you're so small that you have absolutely no Money, no industry Connections, no hardware/software Resources, and too few art/sound/code team members, then 3D Realms doesn't want to talk to you anyway; (ie: they're not gonna fund your Games University senior project)

- if you DO have some of the above, then you don't need 3D Realms help to begin with, especially when mostly all they're gonna do is skim off a BIG % of your profits acting as "middle man" with publishers.

I can see a startup partnering with Valve because they offer a successful online distribution method as well as traditional retail, but 3D Realms? meh.

How is it this game became a first person shooter???
because the corporate child molesters hired the lead Halo designer to design Shadowrun to be a Halo clone.

CalTrain runs multiple times daily between San Jose and San Francisco, i rode it every day for the year i was working in downtown SF and it's great - clean, fast, safe, and cheap - compared to the nightmare of a daily freeway commute and downtown parking.

On a cold morning you grab an upper level seat on the East side of the train, the rising sun makes you toasty warm as the train gently rocks you back and forth... back and forth... zzzzz.

You guys are all probably too young to remember, but believe it or not there was actually a time when you didn't see ads before the movie in theaters.
"i remember when" *creak* Public TV (PBS) was ad-free too, they just had great content like the international childrens film festival, and Monty Python, and ALL the Doctor Who's ever made by the BBC and, etc. etc.

They still have good content but now it's bracketed by ads.

ironic how the last bastions of genuine Free Market Capitalism are in Moscow and on inner city streetcorners, and are opposed by the US Government.

edit: hm i see there's a demo (which i haven't tried)

arg. Since this is a fairly high profile game, in a relatively untapped genre, from a dev/pub that's trying to make Mainstream AAA titles that are state of the art technically (as opposed to the typical "christian family values games" shareware-grade crapola), i guess i'll have to break down and PLAY the game before passing judgement.

but i keep wondering -
If you play the AntiChrist side, can you "win" the game?
Or if you can only play the Christian Trib Forces side, can you ever "lose"?
I mean, can you really defeat the Creator of the Cosmos and His Heavenly Host at the Battle of Armageddeon??? yoiks!
or did they not not even cover that aspect of the book of revelation?

nagging impression based on screenshots and vague descriptions: it plays like Robotron.

Amen Tony... where are they getting their money from?
that was my first thought, how in the world do developers like this stay in business? The product cannot possibly generate more than a tiny amount of cas from sales, maybe not even a Profit.

3. The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.

8. Women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (30% ) than boys age 17 or younger (23% ).

9. In 2005, 25 percent of Americans over the age of 50 played video games, an increase from nine percent in 1999.

I don't think many 14 year olds are going to have the means to get near the President, let alone kill him.
Pity.
