So maybe if they make money off this first project they can finally go ahead and make a SHADOWRUN MMORPG which is the ip that gamers have been saying "you know what would be cool..." for the last 15 years.

And for all the venture capital and angel investors looking for fresh ideas, why doesn't someone throw $30M at Prof. Barker for Empire of the Petal Throne Online!

Or Elric! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elric

Or RuneQuest/Glorantha! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RuneQuest

Or a dozen other FULLY DEVELOPED WORLDS that could be plugged into an existing engine and be up an running in less than a year! arg!

Having been to many in my time, traditional open-casket funerals seem sooo bizarre, i mean, omg there's a freakin CORPSE laying in a box over there, and people go up and touch it, jeebus, who the hell thought up such a macabre ritual and how in the world does it continue in this modern age.

As a lifelong PC-only gamer it's clear that the price/performance/value curve increasingly swings toward consoles.

Everyone in the industry except PC gamers has recognized for a few years now that the "flush money down the toilet every year to upgrade your PC" model of gaming is on the wane.

How about Sony, Nintendo and MS making the commercial dev hardware, software, and documentation for their older consoles available to hobby-class developers?

*** BULLSHYT ALERT ***
Perry will choose a winner from the contributors, and Acclaim will be giving them a breath-taking prize, 'A Video Game Industry Directorship , working on a new fully-funded massively multiplayer online PC game. ... and once they complete their project, they will even earn royalties from the game sales!"
AccLame will never deliver on anything even remotely resembling that statement.

1. There is no such thing as a "director" job title in the organization chart that comes under the Exec Producer

2. A fully funded mmog clocks in at $10-30 MILLION these days, takes 2-4 yrs to develop, and they're gonna hand it over to some Leroy Noobsauce fanboi to run. right.

3. Royalties? What royalties? The urban legend that devs get royalties off the games they make died off sometime back in the early 1980's with the Apple II.

as the PTC guy states in the article:
The evidence is conclusive.

or as Humpty Dumpty said:
'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'
'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'
'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master - that's all.'

Now we just have to wait and see if they release any good games.

He said all the evidence the company has indicates that the device is performing quantum computations, but he acknowledged there is some uncertainty .
well considering it's very nature...
In quantum physics, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle is a mathematical limit on the accuracy with which it is possible to measure everything there is to know about a physical system.
...it's not even POSSIBLE to know whether the computer works or not!!! ack!

The creation of EA marked the transition in gaming from: games as something purely fun and cool, to: games as just another product to be monetized.

Thanx for nothing "Trip".

why doesn't google start it's own games division, they've got the $$$ and the software tech and a good percentage of it's Senior Fellow design staff came from the games industry. Google Games.

i liked GeneForge 1 - an interesting story well told, particularly liked how the various ending(s) were handled. Only halfway thru yet but slogging thru GeneForge 2 now seems kinda tedious since you've already seen all the unique and clever bits in #1.
