I don't recall ever hearing anything from Romero about what went down or how things were really mismanaged.
two words:
Todd Porter. A name that should live in infamy. From 1999:
http://www.dallasobserver.com/1999-06-03/news/end-game/

If Todd ever needs $$$ he could sell his life story to some film studio, fascinating study. Example - while working at Strategic Simulations (SSI) he once told me he lost the sight in his left eye (or was it the right?) at a target range while pistol shooting with Richard Garriott (Lord British) when he worked at Origin. wow.

The Real Vietnam War that no one today has the Courage to remember.

It was all BullShit.
Innocent human life on both sides
pissed away for NOTHING . Nothing.
Just like Iraq.

Does anyone remember "Fragging"?

This was when "90 Day Wonders" (a term used for gung-ho Lieutenant JG's fresh out of West Point or the Naval Academy) were shot and killed by their own troops when they gave the order to go out on recon. Fck you, YOU take point you piece of sht.

Many's the time I saw the jackets, hand lettered on the back,
"I Know I'm Going To Heaven cuz
I've Served My Time In Hell
An Loc 1972"
or some other forgotten hellish nightmare that kids were forced to go through for Nothing.

http://www.videosift.com/video/American-Soldiers-Smoke-Pot-Through-Shotgun-Barrel-In-Vietnam

Fck Iraq and Fck the Wealthy Elite like Bush that sent our people there for no good reason.
Burn in Hell you worthless btch.

Well you know, forcing women into sex, better known as RAPE, is OK if you're the winner and US history re-writes the aftermath in your favor.

After all, they were only sub-human gooks and chinks and slopes right? Right???
cmon guys! SEMPER FI! WHERE'S YOUR PATRIOTISM? WAVE THE FLAG!

Oh by the way... on a related note...
What do you think is happening right now in Iraq. ?

fucking garbage.

its a freakin baby man
oh well that's ok then, no anesthetics needed when performing surgery on babies.
Are you nuts? Did you watch it with the SOUND on?
I was circumcised as a baby. I got no problem with it.
Well of course not because you don't remember screaming in Agony as some guy slowly cut your skin off when you were a day old!

Here's a test - as a refresher of what that felt like go ahead and try it on yourself now, just a tiny snip all the way thru the skin with a scissors. After you get done writhing on the floor and crying in torment come back and say it's no big deal.

The only people who need the type of coverage
no I strongly disagree, whether it's VTU or 9/11 or Iraq or Enron or Watergate, the duty of news reporting is to inform the public, not to cover things up and hide the facts from people.

Because who decides who "needs" to know?

Some crooked politician trying to save his ass from a scandal? Some sleazy editor afraid he'll get caught cheating on his wife? Some phony religious leader worried he'll be discovered skimming from the collection plate?

No, I'll decide for myself thank you.

Roman Pfneudl???

Isn't he a character in a Matthew Hughes sci-fi story?
Roman Pfneudl, Henghis Hampton, Hundegar Abrax, and Welliver Tung all having a drink in Bolly Snug's tavern just down the street from the Archonate Bureau of Scrutiny?

Maybe not.
"It is good to have substance to one's existence", he told his dark reflection in the first class observation port of a space liner, as the stars streamed by. "But if fate denies one substance, one can yet do a lot with style."
-"The Meaning of Luff" by Matthew Hughes, F&SF July 2006.
Brilliant.

Think of the scenarios and sub-storyline arcs you could create with a Silent Hunter mmog - everything from modern day doomsday tension (see 'On The Beach' omg), to nuclear tension drama (ala Crimson Tide w/Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington) to sci-fi alien mindbender Bermuda Triangle wackyness ! An endless supply of content goodness.

Someone - please - give me $40M to design a mmog and i will make u rich and famous!

This is NOT the game for those with ADD
Amen and hopefully devs will recognize that this concept is the real Core mmog market long term.

How about a broad, deep, immersive, persistent MMOG based on this idea. Seems like it would naturally lend itself to group online play. EVE + Pirates of the Carib - Underwater.

here's an animateed explanation of the 2 Slit phenomenon mentioned
http://www.videosift.com/video/Quantum-Physics-Double-Slit-Experiment-amazing-results

This is a very old and well known physical phenomenon which, at the very least, proves that we really don't know jack about so-called "reality".

In addition to the weirdness that mere observation somehow changes the particle's behavior, the other bizarrity is how a SINGLE particle MUST have passed thru one slit AND the other slit AND both slits AND neither slit... all at the same time! This forms the basis of quantum computing - all possible logical combinations are achieved simultaneously.

thoughts and Prayers to the familys affected by this
sorry to be indelicate but, if you're praying to God for comfort and compassion and understanding and healing the wounds of the families who are devastated by this horror, one has to ask:

where was this very same God on Monday at 7:15 and 9:30?

He didn't care about the poor families then,
what makes you think He cares about them now?

Honestly - I hope he had more than a pistol.
reports are saying he had either 2 9mm's, or a 9mm and a .22.

From a student in one of the classrooms that was attacked:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/16/AR2007041600533.html?hpid=topnews

Trey Perkins, who was sitting in room 207 in Norris Hall, said the gunman barged into the room at about 9:50 a.m. and opened fire for about a minute and a half. "Some 30 shots in all," said Perkins, who was seated in the back of the room.

It was a German class, Perkins said, and there were about 15 students in the room. The gunman, who was holding two pistols, Perkins said, first shot the professor in the head and kept on shooting at the students. Perkins said the student was of Asian descent, "around 19," and had "very serious but very calm look on his face."

"Everyone hit the floor at that moment," said Perkins, 20, of Yorktown, Va., a sophomore studying mechanical engineering, who sounded shaken on the phone. "And the shots seemed like it lasted forever."
Wikipedia is maintaining a pretty good ongoing list of links to all the news reports

One of the design motifs...
design motifs?! C.S. Lewis?! tripartite nature of man?!

What's this?, a designer knowledgeable of literature who also knows actual formal design principles and thinks and speaks on a post graduate level??? The game is Doomed!

Branching quests. Non-static storylines. Major NPCs that will live, die, and change sides.
woo!

Here's an insidious thought -
in the all-male world of mmog design, maybe it'll take some 'girl designer' to actually Do Something Different from the retarded peevpee gankfests and grind til you drop staleness that everyone else is offering for '07-'08 in their "Action" mmogs.

To mix metaphors: phuk your Grind House, i wanna play Citizen Kane!

after some experience in this field as a freelance scriptwriter and after talking with other gaming employees, I know that this field is hard to break into and easy to dislike if you harbor fantasies about how this industry works today.
too too true.
