I was actually thinking about picking it up, just to see what it's like, until I learned that the flight mechanics are gimped. Is that correct? I thought you could fly in space, seamlessly transition to a planet's atmosphere and fly around as you wish, or hover over the ground. Apparently there is now an autopilot that does some these things for you?

Every time I think we get a game where you have real seamless transitions between planets and space I get disappointed. I guess the first Elite games did it. Evochron does it.
And the only other game that does it is Rodina. In No Man's Sky it seems fake. Not the same fake as in Elite Dangerous, where you have different instances, but it seems like you don't have real control over it. Am I wrong?
I suggest you watch some youtube gameplay videos

Wonder if these drivers will make any difference for NMS performance.

In the introduction. these drivers provide an optimal experience for No Man’s Sky, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Obduction, F1 2016, and the Open Beta for Paragon.
Yes I saw that, that's why I said I wonder if the driver will make any actual performance difference.

Nvidia likes to list a bunch of games in their driver release to get people excited but that doesn't always means those games will actually perform any better.

Pretty good Ars Technica review

A game so broken in its launch state that it even crashes while paused
Bottom line: Don't just wait for a sale; wait for a major overhaul.

You guys are overreacting and/or not reading.

PC hardware testing will come later in development.

This game is 2 months away from release. He did not mention anything about testing on the PC so not sure where you got that from.

If they are not at the stage of testing hardware on the PC where there are a ton more variables than on the consoles at this point, I am wondering if the PC version will be even in playable state at release.

Thankfully Origin has a refund policy, for the sake of anyone that buys this on release day

I think the no testing on the PC has a lot more to do with this:
PC players have proven in the past that they will dig out anything they can, and there's a risk that they could spoil some of our single player

I couldn't care less about this game.
They should just keep it on the consoles all together. Save themselves the trouble of insulting the pc gamers.
I don't know what kind of sales numbers they expect on the PC after comments like these. If this game bomb on the PC they will just blame the pirates or something.

Hello, my name is RoboNerd and I admit I pre-ordered the PC No Man's Sky. I had never paid full price for a game before, and I had never-ever pre-ordered a game before. The game mocks me by just crashing right after posting the Hello Games screen. Oh sure, I read all the first day suggestions, and tried all those gymnastics, with no solution. So I've learned my lesson, I will never, never, never pre-order again. (hangs head in shame as he shuffles away from the podium) Paperbag

Did you get a refund?
Hopefully he got it from Steam, otherwise no refund

We’ve brought a new QA team on board today (larger than the entire Hello Games team!).

I thought it was traditional to QA a product *before* release!

This will complement the existing Sony QA team.

I think the idea was that they did the best they could with the existing QA team but now that they have money coming in from sales they can afford a bigger QA team to iron out all the issues and focus on more content.

I don't know why all the negativity towards this game. It's not like these guys took hundreds of millions of crowd funded money to make this game.
It's an indie dev, and I think they could be pretty proud to what they have achieved.
The price could be a little lower on the game, but I am sure there will be sales and such and I'll grab this eventually.

Watched an hour or so of NMS on a good Twitch feed and it was pretty much what I thought it'd be. It's definitely on my list to pick up - the $20 or under list.
If you don't mind seeing every planet in the game named dickwad#1 dickwad#2 and all the creatures are puke1, puke2, etc.
I guess the selling point to have people pre purchase is that your name or gamertag will be tagged to every planet and life form you discover. It's a good way to motivate people to explore, unfortunately I don't know if people will stick around after the novelty wears off.

Dunno if this gameplay has been posted...

Looks like it's been removed, whatever it was

Sky of The..." This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by SIEA.

That was fast. That was some guy playing No Man's Content. He went around drilling for minerals in order to teleport them to his ship in order to repair his broken systems and his suit. The whole thing has a "Corpse of Discovery" kind of feel to it, with Minecraft in it.

He found some horribly ugly dog, and the dog actually found him a health... potion. He wanted to take the dog with him, but the game doesn't let you.

He identified a bunch of plants and animals and got an achievement of some kind as well, with an epic widescreen transition. "Survived 10 sols" or something.

All the plants and stuff have nonsensical names of course.

A spaceship flew by in the sky. The soundscape in this game is very atmospheric and pronounced.
Sounds like you're talking about this gameplay

But I thought it was sp only on PC and split screen only on console?

This would indicate that I can play with a buddy, on PC, against bots.

Can anyone confirm?
Unless they have changed something recently split screen is only available on the consoles, not on the PC.

The author of that article would probably find installing games onto the xbox hard drive extremely difficult as well.
Better stick with mobile games.
